@@sixfeetundertheradar6080 you're boss at least asks why you quit. "They were racist and touched me and I'm Muslim blah blah" so theres a bigger air of doubt
she was 29 and she was at her parents' place? Do you know how refreshing that is? for once a character that doesn't have it together but has enough confidence to go for it.
Fran was definitely not 29, a running joke in the series is that we never find out her actual age. The closest we ever came was Sylvia confirming that Fran is over 35. In real life, Fran Drescher and Charles Shaunnesy (Maxwell) are only a couple of years apart, so I assume Fran is around the same age in the show.
I love how she really did invest in the kids, they weren't just a plot device for her to spend more time with their dad, she really and truly cared about how they were doing and making them feel included and heard. She wasn't there for the nanny position but she was a mom from the start.
@@kylewilkins6149 You have to remember that Maxwell was still grieving from the loss of Sara, which undoubtedly affected all aspects of his life -including his ability to care for his children - and although wealthier than many widowers, he still had to work and make a living.
The fact that the kids including Sheffield were all sad and miserable until Fran came along and changed their lives for the better. Even Niles. I just loved how she came in and brightened everyone's hearts.
@@zorbathegreek8339 she’s still close friends with her ex husband. They divorced because he came-out as being gay, not because of any animosity or relationship dysfunction.
@@staciecarrel4492 Actually, they did grow apart for a time after the end of the Nanny, but they reconnected later when he helped her produce Happily Divorced.
They changed the layout of the first floor in the actual series so the pilot was not perfect ;) But seriously, not only did no one get replaced, they manage to hide CC's pregnancy which allowed them not changed CC's personality. Definitely one of my favorite show of the era which is still a bit surprising to me since I know I was not in the target demographic. I was in my mid twenties to early thirties when this show first aired and I'm pretty sure no writer of the show every lost sleep over how to get more black dudes in their late 20s to watch the show:)
@JeanDumas24601 They actually made a running gag of it. They looked for ways to "obscure" the baby bump. I think they did the same with Fran. But yes, having fun "hiding" the pregnancy (even if fourth wall nuance came into play) did allow them to keep Lauren Lane around. I believe I also read that Lane and Drescher were far friendlier than Fran and CC were. When you add in Daniel Davis (a Texan, not a Brit at all), you had a trio of pranksters that had a really good time at the expense of others, although nothing inherently hazardous. They just had a fun set. Davis was most likely to prank someone, and he apparently had a low sense of humor.
I love how Niles just straight up loves her right away and says in this episode, "Just what you needed". He truly knows what is best for the family than anyone else
Isn’t it a wonderful world that we can have things like this to remind of us of those we love? It’s like they never truly leave because their memories are forever tied to these little things.
I feel like you can almost see Nile's thought process. "She's a strange looking Nanny, but oh well," to "At least I'll get some entertainment before she goes," to "Please let her stay just so it annoys CC."
The thing I always loved about Fran was how people tried to put her down because of her "class" and it always just rolls right off whether she intentionally ignored it or it went over her head and she always absolutely stops the person trying to put her down... it's lovely and refreshing and a real testament to her confidence
I loved how Fran stood up to Mr. Sheffield after he told Maggie to go to her room. After only working there a few days, Niles saw the impact Fran had on Mr. Sheffield and his kids. Glad he humbled himself to ask her to return to work.
The reason why CC hated Fran was that the moment Fran walked in, Max lost all interest in C.C. You see it all happen at the party, then C.C. gloating during the fight about Maggie’s kiss.
You also didn't see that other office set again after the Pilot, where Maxwell finds Maggie kissing Eddie, and later on when Niles tells him that Fran is actually what he needed.
The living room was reversed with the stairs & entrance switched to the right side. Then added another main set in the second episode with the green kitchen for 4 seasons. Made for a nice flow for the character to move all the way from the front door to the kitchen.
I love how she is more upset after spending less than one weekend with the children and being fired than she was when her boyfriend of 3 years broke up with her AND fired her. It just goes to show how much deeper her relationship with them was.
22:06 "GET AWAY FROM THAT LIMO, NOBODY DIED, THERE'S NO VACANCIES !!", What I love about Fran, aside from her looks, is how street smart she is. She never took her education seriously but she KNOWS how to deal with the real world.
The first poignant thing I noticed about the Pilot is that Fran doesn't cry when Danny dumps/fires her after 3 years. But she cries when Mr Sheffield fires her after just one day
안녕 Jai K • 18 years ago nick at nite had a good schedule back in the early 2010s. Not just repeats of friends and George Lopez. There was the nanny, full house, home improvement, my wife & kids, Glenn Martin Dds, such variety!
alex Soto even though I was young to understand Home Improvement when I was first introduced to it I was too annoyed to even look at it again even though I’m at the age of having that young adult knowledge 😂I just can’t stand Home Improvement
alex Soto I loved George Lopez though. He was hilarious and it was hard for me to go to bed because of him😂the commercials seemed so long to get back on the show
Love how Fran came up with this idea all on her own. The show still comes on tv at 6pm every night. Glad Fran beat Breast Cancer. My parents even love the show
@Devonte Huntley Again, you're clearly terrible at reading between the lines. But, if it makes you happy to believe what you believe, then keep believing it.
The best part of this is how Niles knew that Fran was just what the family needed from the get go. Between their banter when Fran said she was 29 towards the beginning and then telling Mr. Sheffield that Fran was what they'd been needing near the end of the episode, you could see the platonic chemistry between him and Fran and I love that so much about this episode!
I think this pilot was one of the best examples of how to set up a show from the get go Every character is established with their personality and character traits right away and in some cases with only a few scenes needing to do so We get to know who C.C babcock is, Who Niles is, and who the kids and Fran and Maxwell are in a few scenes and or a few web written situations. The conversation between Niles nd Maxwell shows their dynamic, Niles and C.C.’s duality is well placed this was a perfect pilot episode and literally set up the show and the characters quite well. I do believe that some shows do need to find themselves over the course of a few episodes, this one however, was perfect from the get go.
The show did evolve somewhat. C.C. became more of a neurotic train-wreck in subsequent episodes and season one was somewhat grounded in reality, while the rest of the seasons were more satirical and absurdist.
@@giovannirastrelli9821 C.C. descent into neuroticism was fueled by her increasing desperation for Maxwell’s interest. The more involved Fran and Maxwell got, the worse she got, until she broke completely when they got engaged.
I'm just smiling all the way through this. Fran Fine was so brash with a good outlook on life that her mere presence helped the kids right from the start.
I wonder if Fran never showed up would Max have married CC. They should have done an episode ala It’s A Wonderful Life where we see an alternate universe where Tony never dumped Fran and never became the nanny.
@@h193013 from their body language throughout this episode it looks like they were getting pretty close to dating. Between the way they talked about her at breakfast, then her massaging his shoulders, him giving her flirty compliments on her appearance at the party. All of which stopped in an instant when he saw the red dress, and C.C.’s immediate jealousy in response.
EZzZY · yeah I can understand that. I always really liked her laugh and voice even though most people seem to agree that it’s a bit... annoying. Have you ever seen the Conan O’Brien interview she did when they brought out goats and her laughing was pretty close to the noises the goats were making?
Helen F. I gotta say C.C. is my third favorite. She is definitely a “wasp” type personality but the show gave her more meaning and depth than just an outright snooty person.
No shame in it. It's actually common and seen as honourable in some cultures. In Mexico, for example, you can have up to four generations living in the one place.
@@samalvey8168 yhea. My parents lived with my dad's parents for a while until we moved out when I was 15. And then my brother moved out a week ago, and he's 26.
Did anyone else's grandma let them watch her older CDs of this show? Cause I have very distinct memories of watching this show while eating mac n cheese and laughing my 10 year old head off. Thanks Grammy for showing me this crack.
Usually there's always adjustments to the characters after a pilot. But this pilot is just like any other future episode. Perfect first episode. Fran is beautiful and hilarious. Love this show.
@@Momo-po5tn Margot Robbie sounds a little bit like this and the Animated Harley also sounds like this. The only difference is that Fran has a nasally voice personality.
It’s pretty common for shows to use already existing sets from old shows in the pilot, then build a specific set if the show gets picked up. Why spend the time and money to build a full set for a pilot, when most shows never get past the pilot.
@@theallancb I didn’t recognize the salon set from anywhere else, but I’m pretty sure The Nanny’s set for it’s pilot was originally the Full House set, at least the downstairs.
Rose Treiger If Netflix can pay Schumer and Chapelle upwards of 50million for a comedy special, they could surely pay Drescher and her ex a reasonable amount to stream their old show for few years.
I genuinely think this is a perfect pilot. All the main cast, and even some side characters like Val and Sylvia, get well established, we know their personalities and relationships with the other characters, pretty much nothing about them got retconned moving forward like many sitcoms did. We got a perfect blend of comedy and serious, and it set up the dynamic for the whole show.
As a HR professional, she could have sued him for wrongful termination since he freely admitted he was firing her so he could hire his new girlfriend. Just saying...lol
When you’re Gen Z and realize Jessie was pretty much a kids version of The Nanny. You could say “a woman goes to Manhattan to find a better life, and ends up becoming the nanny for a rich family’s wacky children, living with them and their know-it-all butler” and it would literally describe both shows.
I remember watching this and Married With Children every morning getting ready for middle school with my mom and little brother in my mom’s room in 2010
I've got about 60 episodes of The Nanny saved to my DVR for the last year and a half. I don't need to watch the pilot (seen a million times, hello baby James Marsden! 😆). I just wanted to make sure to come here and like it and support y'all. 🤗
Amazing how the show and the characters were fully formed from episode 1. Unlike other shows, this episode plays just as well as all the others. Fran is in top form here.
I love this show....Fran was absolutely gorgeous I loved the way she dressed. She truly showed you can be slim and have a figure not the fake figures of today but natural shape. God I wish I could get ahold of her wardrobe from the show..... I would kill it...
I also love how she was fully aware people judged her for being colorful/robust but she just didn’t let it phase her. It was that mind set that is what the family needed and why I think Niles encouraged Maxwell to hire her back. His family was so obsessed with tradition/appearances that it was isolating his children. Fran and her family are so loving/honest (despite being opposite of Maxwell’s family) and it shows how her influence positively affected each of the kids over the show.
That fact that I can’t stream this show anywhere is a loss. I have the dvds box set but I’d love to share the show with my friends who haven’t seen it yet.
She was. They even made a joke out of it in an episode. She makes a comment about someone on a TV show being pregnant and they're hiding it behind huge props, while she's simultaneously picking up and drawing attention to the fact that's she's holding huge props.
@@kattriella1331 I believe it was first her giant, leather portfolio bag, and then it was a potted plant. Yes, I remember that because I'm an enormous, ridiculously giant fan of The Nanny.
