Mattis N yeah I bought a newer Volvo v70 2009 and thought I had a reliable daily driver to work but this thing blew a head gasket the first week of owning it and I still have to drive it though☹️ but I’m thinking of daily driving my beetle to work and that is more reliable then the new cara

It’s not just the golf mark 2, it has 4 headlamps and is 5dr tornado red. This was the car we had when I was growing up and this is the car which made me a very enthusiastic of vdubs . Thanks so much for sharing.

Very nice, truly inspiring. I bought a 1992 VW Vento a few months ago; still need to do this kind of work on it, but so far... The best car I ever had. A friend, professional car tuner, looked at it and said: "they don't make them like this anymore. " I needed a low electronics car for health reasons. The best part: they hardly rust in Portugal, so a 30 year old car just needs a bit of regular maintenance to look almost new.

Oil based instead of "eco friendly" water based paint. That's why Mercedes cars from the nineties rust so much compared to eighties ones. Same with the Golf III vs the Mk II shown here.

@@matthiasweigel311 good shape means the car is in tact..has straight lines and body panels, no huge dents, holes, pits, major rust, peeling or destroyed paint. Interior is in great condition as well. All this car needed was a bit of exterior detail TLC . It was definitely in exceptional condition based on its age before the detail

I personally think that red cars are the best in terms of satisfaction from cleaning them. Because red cars often suffer from blemished paint, polishing them is so satisfying

If I'd buy all the compounds and pads he used, it'd take almost as much if not more than I bought my car 4 years ago. Not to mention the machines (electric rotary polisher #1 and #2, air driven small one) . And it's an Mk3 Golf Variant. It was a heartwarming 20 minutes to see an Mk2 Golf in this condition. And it was even better to see it in its shine... like when you see your first girlfriend in her best outfit after not seeing her for 30 years.

I handled the same problems with my MK2 golfs as the tornado red paint always faded like this. It was a big job bringing the paint back to a shiny finish.

Not so cheap in the UK anymore but you are right they are cheaper because you have to pay export duty on cars to US so it makes it not worth the effort. Keep looking always a barn find somewhere.
