Hello! Quick update on the Lawless One Palette and the Ilia Mascara - the eyeshadows, unfortunately, did not wear well. Most of it was gone by the end of the day, and the wearing away was evident very early on. The mascara wore fine - no smudging or flaking. But I don't know if it did much for my lashes. It was very "light" looking and very natural which I don't mind. But not a lot of difference that I could see.

As you can probably surmise from my handle, I use and review mostly green/clean beauty brands but when it comes to makeup I still use conventional brands for the reason you mentioned as some green brands turn quickly (Kjaer Weiss being one of them). In the makeup realm Ilia, Lilah B, Aether Palettes (the Solstice one in particular), Kosas, Bite, RMS, and W3ll People make some of my favorite products. Also, on a more affordable note, the Burt's Bees line is really nice too. Their All Aglow sticks are amazing! As many people have commented, the marketing in the green beauty space can be quite fear mongering, and when I see that from brands I quickly move along and give my dollars to brands that celebrate the lovely ingredients they use while not demonizing science and the need for preservatives.

PEG’s stand for Polyethylene glycol(s) aka tiny tiny little micro plastic beads that are used depending on their tiny ness in everything from toothpaste to moisturising creams as thickeners or fillers and in larger sizes in exfoliating/peeling creams for instance. They are extremely versatile and cheap. But the problem with them is that we pollute our waters with them and that they are not bio degradable since they are basically plastic...

The RMS eyeshadow should be good for a while. It's basically a coconut oil and a pigment, and people keep coconut oil in their cupboards for a while.(I was told this by a makeup artist who worked a local makeup store, so take it as you will) I like the philosophy of the beauty products with sustainable packaging and hope it becomes something mainstream. I have a little bit of Kosas and RMS that I use in rotation with other non "clean" beauty makeup. Eyeshadow though is something that I find that you need those chemical binders in them for them to stay all day.

I also really recommend Fitglow. All their color products are infused with skincare benefits. The lip color serum in Nudie (as mentioned by Rachel at Home) is a classic, but I really love the possibly limited edition Rosé: it is pinkish, but has goldish shimmer, all in a very subtle way. It is a more translucent serum, while most other of their serums pack quite a pigment punch. I have almost all of them. Also excellent is their concealer+, it covers well, does not settle in lines, and hydrates. Another favorite is the LumiFirm, which is a cheek cream product, infused with plant peptides and collagen - it comes in blush, bronzer, and highlight varieties. Meanwhile, I also love the Westman Atelier foundation, contour, and blush sticks and I have a lot of Kjaer Weis: Blossoming is a great cheek color for a healthy flush. I don't like their lipsticks (I tried Honor and it was super dry), but I love their eye shadows and their cream eye shadow in Gorgeous is beautiful!

Marianne G YAAAAS. Their lip serum is a game-changer! I have become a convert of lip glosses because of them. I also think that clean beauty does lip glosses/oils/serums etc REALLY well. Also the Fitglow eyeshadows and cheek palettes are BEAUTIFUL.

I have not transitioned to organic, ethically responsible or "clean" however I have been reading about it and doing some research. I believe a good place to start is defining terms; because in reality there is no universal accepted definition of clean--like you mentioned. The next step is deciding what ingredients and ethical, and/or what environmentally responsible practices, you want your products to contain or be free of, you can do this by researching one ingredient at a time and this is where I am lol. It is going to take a while.

Emily Leech good for you! Some solid advice I think you gave. I’ve been on this journey about a decade, I started by being REALLY strict, but have eased up a bit after a decade. I must say there are some SOLID clean products out there (especially skincare) a great place to start is Green(or was it Clean) Beauty Trish. She’s fantastic. Reminds me a bit of Michele but clean beauty for skincare. And she’s so well-versed in clean perfumes.

I started making the switch to clean beauty after finding out I was pregnant. Some good brands are Crunchi, FitGlow, 100% pure lipsticks, Gressa liquid foundation, although I’ve yet to find eyeshadows that have the pigmentation, performance and staying power of traditional eyeshadows. In my process from powder to cream products, I am also transitioning to clean as much as possible. Last Sunday I met Rose-Marie Swift , founder of RMS Beauty and renowned makeup artist. Most well known for her luminizers. After she did my makeup, I purchased 6 of her little pots to get me started; all are multi-purpose products. After a week, I am loving everything, particularly the ease of use and portability of the pots. Ha, further along video and there you are with RMS!

"Clean" is largely a marketing term, and there are parts of the clean beauty space that peddle a lot of (what the science says to be unfounded) fear to sell product, so I'm incredibly skeptical of a lot of the claims as a moderately science-literate consumer. Not to say that a lot of clean beauty brands don't have good products - they do! I just hate some of the rhetoric. I think you have to become ingredient conscious and decide what matters to you. I have recently decided to try to eliminate as many micro plastics (not just plastic beads - many products contain actual plastic in them, largely as a texture enhancer) as I can from my skin and body care, especially in cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, stuff that goes directly into the water.

Beautiful look! I'm a huge fan of the Westman AtelierI line. I don't mind "clean" beauty but I don't go searching for it. There is a list of ingredients I avoid because I know they bother my skin. Unfortunately a lot of clean beautyskincare uses essential oils or mineral oil and those 2 things irritate my skin. I also don't mind watching various channels that talk about clean beauty as long as they don't get preachy by telling me I HAVE to switch everything to clean beauty/skincare while sitting there with dyed hair and a face full of botox and fillers. I find that amusing. No, I'm not saying don't dye your hair or get botox. Everyone should do what they want! Thank you for another great video!

Thanks for doing a clean beauty video! I've been getting into clean beauty the last 6 months or so, as I'm learning more about the potentially harmful materials in some makeup. Also I'm avoiding any companies that test on animals (sadly that includes Chanel, Tom Ford, Burberry etc). For a clean brow tool, I recommend Ilia's. Not sure how you feel about cream shadows and blushes, but RMS has great ones. Tatcha is considered a clean brand, and I'm enjoying their primer.I'm still trying to find a clean mascara that I love. I've found it really easy to transition to cruelty free and eco friendly makeup brushes. Emma Watson is a great resource for all things clean beauty. Love that you're learning something new! Sorry for the long comment. Hope this helps!

I do have a few favorite items marketed as clean beauty, but I think a lot of them are also more of an aesthetic that goes with an entire lifestyle - I definitely don't have a lot because (and this may sound strange) I like my makeup collection and clean beauty products go bad very quickly. I also have a lot of allergies and eczema, so unfortunately there are a lot of essential oils/ organic ingredients I cannot use. I depend a lot on my aquaphor and cetaphil and lanolin.

Love watching your videos! I started getting into clean beauty a few months back because I was looking for things that would not cause my sons skin to react- his skin sounds very similar to yours, I also describe it as “angry”. Anyway, I now use all clean skincare for my son. He uses Beautycounter products and his skin has calmed considerably- he actually asks for it now. I use their skincare and makeup along with other clean brands and I’ve been happy with the results. I still have many makeup products that aren’t “clean” that I’m having a hard time giving up - but I definitely think Beautycounter is a brand to check out.

I've noticed lately that I seem to have reactions to conventional makeup (by that I mean my skin becomes red and irritated and my eyes become itchy). I used to use Chanel a lot - I don't anymore. This makes me sad as I have a lot of beautiful makeup that I'll likely now only use once in a while and once used up, will not be repurchased. Luckily some makeup I own, like Hourglass, does exclude certain irritants and chemicals but is not "clean" makeup, as it still contains other irritants and is not organic. SO, I've watched quite a few videos on clean makeup, including yours Michele, and I'm giving clean beauty a go. I am starting with Westman Atelier. I have recently purchased the lip suede and LOVE IT! It's just the most unique lip palette experience I have ever had and the packaging is stunning. Next I ordered the Vital Skin Foundation Stick and the Super Loaded Tinted Highlight, because I've seen several videos in which people raved about these two products. Given the price of these products $88 for the foundation stick and $98 for the highlighter, I'm going to stop there for now to let my wallet recover. But I really hope that my skin will tolerate these products.

Yes, clean beauty products can go off much faster than regular. I had 2 lippies going off in just 6 months from Australian natural brand. But not another (have lippy 4 years old and still good!). Just depends. We have here Down Under quite a few natural based brands! Love packaging from Lilah, pebble, so pretty! Also Kjaer Weis, packaging is so elegant. Their lip tints do not go off fast. I had (woops) 3 of them for over 3 years, not gone bad =D Noticed though something interesting. Bought that Guerlain L'Essentiel foundation that is 97% natural based and the packaging enviromentally friendly. And noticed change in packaging (boxes and some other items that were out recently). They are going big on sustainability, recycling, less plastic use (unlike Westman)...etc. My radar is on them lately.

I really appreciated your comment that “clean” products don’t last as long because they lack preservatives. It was an important point. I have a lot of makeup and sometimes I stop using a product for months at a time; often for seasonal or weather related reasons. In most cases I can go back to it, but I imagine that these products, especially those for face, degrade pretty quickly. When you consider the price tag for these items, it would only make sense to buy if you are going to use it every day and use it up. What kind of mileage are you getting out of those La Bouche Rouge lipsticks? Their packaging is elegantly simple and classic. 💚

I'm also doing it with skincare too. I'm into may Lindstrom right now but open to other brands. Just learning as you are

Ooo! That prototype brush intrigues me. I support you trying out more prototypes on your channel! (Personally I do not have a luxury budget, so I watch you to learn about makeup in general). Thanks for the always-excellent content :)

Michele, I love all of your videos. I recently placed an order for some Westman Atelier products which I am super excited to try. Your comment of "That's what she said" was brilliant. I don't know how many viewers caught that reference but I was dying.

Hi Michele, Have you tried using the Westman Altelier highlighter as a primer with any other foundations? I was wondering how that might work out? I like the way you used the Zoeva brush, I think I'm going to see if I can pick up the brush and try that technique, the makeup looks so beautiful on your skin! The Kosas blush is very pretty, too. You are bad news for my wallet!💸😁 Thanks for another great video! Take care, Ginny 😘😘😘

Never thought to use "Lit" as a primer. I'm so excited to try that technique! Also, Gucci Westman is coming out with a mascara.

I am pretty ignorant about clean products. I admire the philosophy but I have the idea, misguided or not, that clean or green products tend to expire or go bad more quickly than regular products. So I don't go out of my way to purchase them. I would love to learn more about the subject.

i know what you mean. I used to own quite a bit of makeup, which i wasn't finishing. So it was sitting there, in my drawers, for months/years (uh-oh). Now i started using clean makeup, and so far I didn't experience any shelf life problems with it. I think the trick with makeup that has a (presumably) shorter lifespan is: Buy what you need. Use it up, consume it, then get something else :) Hope it helps. Also I do experience better skin with clean, non-toxic makeup.

Good morning 🌞 i really like the Ilia blush sticks- I am pretty sure those are clean beauty products I got at Sephora. I have wanted to try the WA products you’re showing here, too, but wish I could try before buying them. I also love Farmacy skin stuff- their green clean balm is great and so is their honey masque- that is my favorite masque bar none-

What a lovely, fresh look. I am curious Kjaer Weis is supposed be pronounced Share Weis? In Norwegian you make a Sh sound with the Kj together like that. 😁

I'll say I am right with you on being ingnorant on the whole clean beauty myself but a company I've been enjoying in the clean beauty front is Olga's Cosmetics. They are a indie brand in all aspects but the products are beautiful and the whole brand is absolutely worth trying. And they aren't that expensive as most clean brands!

Hi Michelle! Thanks for trying something new and maybe stepping out of your comfort zone. For you “dipping your toe” in CLEAN beauty; you started with some heavy hitter brands! Great choices with awesome results. Your final look was beautiful! Another CLEAN brand to look into is Beautycounter. Awesome products with a real mission behind the brand. When you find great products then find out the ingredients are CLEAN or better for you... it’s beauty bonus! Thanks for sharing and for being open to new!

I recently purchased the WA foundation as well. And I also love it especially as a woman of a certain age. I am not used to using cream products but I am liking how they blend in to the skin and looks like skin. There is definitely a learning curve. I am also very curious about the WA highlighter stick.

There is a green brand from Berlin: und Grethel. They have a mascara and it's the best organic one on the market, imho. This mascara makes very good lashes.

Also PEGs I've just started to look into them. Here is the definition:PEGs (polyethylene glycols) are petroleum-based compounds that are widely used in cosmetics as thickeners, solvents, softeners, and moisture-carriers. But here is a scientific article discussing the safety of various PEGs in cosmetic use for anyone who is interested. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4505343/

It's extremely unfortunate and distressing to me that most of the products on the market that have fewer known toxic ingredients, are sold either in High-end beauty markets, Whole Foods stores or co-ops, and are too expensive for the average person to purchase. It's the same with organic food, well made shoes, and just quality products of most types. I'm not a socialist, but this really points up the disparities in our culture. People with lots of disposable income get to use really top-notch products, or at least we have a choice, while people with very little or no money don't

PEG stands for polyethylene glycol. It’s used as the basis for many skin creams. This is what Wikipedia says anyway.
