In the 1980's Hanomag had self cleaning air filters, the machines would do 5000hours in dusty conditions easily before needing a new air filter. So hearing this guy makes me think we have gone backwards.

I run a 45 foot tandem disk here on a 580 Quadtrac, was doing 6.5 mph at 70-75% engine load, 2-5% slip. I got a 1050 demo, hooked it up same field same everything and could not get that disk over 5 mph, AND had like 20% slip was really just an embarrassment. There’s no way it’s putting 500 to the drawbar. Love the 900s for row crop, but for tillage give me 4 tracks.

@nordhorny the 517hp number is Fendt's claimed horsepower to the draw bar, not flywheel horsepower. So people complaining they aren't getting the power to the ground are correct when according to Fendt themselves you should be seeing that 517
@timderks5960
@timderks5960 4 года назад
@nordhorny Good to see at least somebody knows how to actually use the internet for good, instead of just throwing stuff they heard online without checking it. About the 'low' HP, I think I also heard sometime that Fendt reports actual power, whereas JD (not sure if other brands do it) reports a number their tractors can do permanently, but their tractors can boost temporarily. So a 500HP JD may actually boost to 600 or so for a short period of time, which may be why those feel like they have more power on hills. Again, this is what I heard, I can't verify it.

I think this machine is just not really made to work on these huge farms you have! Here in Germany everything is quite smaller and this is probably the biggest machine you can get on the roads here without messing with the cops... But I totally get your point that you’re not happy with their “marketing”. It has to put the power to the ground no matter what but over here it’s not as easy to compare cause there just aren’t enough big machines around... Probably Fendt’s doing better with the smaller ones like the 700 and the 900 -> Transmission is very very nice though Greets from Germany ✌🏽

Thank you Vin! Much appreciated! Thanks for the support and the respectful comment.. I wish more "Pro" (Fendt, John Deere, ect ect) people would take note of your response. I love the tractor and the 7s and 9s too 🙂 I am just trying to critique Fendt/Agco so that we can work together and make this 1000 series more attractive to large farms. If they don't know about it, how can "we" work together to improve them 🤷‍♂️

@@mikemitchell2554 These Vario transmissions can't be improved. at low speed they work fully hydraulic. The best hydraulic pumps on the market have an effciency of 90%, same as the hydraulic motors. This combined is a total efficiency of round about 80% of the transmission at low Speed. This matches your expierience, you loose 100hp in the gearbox. Look at your massive transmission fluid coolers, so you will know, where your fuel ends. These tractors are efficient at high Speed and PTO, in case of pulling heavy implements they are worthless. No one can affort to burn 20% of fuel in the trans.

517 max rated engine HP is not the tractors rated hp as 517 HP at flywheel, it would take 100 hp or more to move the 14 tonne beast, its more like a 417 HP tractor, usual salesman's talk not trained engineers or mechanics, they have a fault with air intake as it should have the tube up the front pillar like other tractor have, but i am not the one handing over the cash as i don't have a farm worth squillions, anyway love the Fendt.

I was super curious about the Fendt 1050, I think it's more geared to the European market. They simply don't have the roads and rules to run a 600+ Steiger with a 68' implement as an example in their environment... and I believe you're correct, they have met the limit of hp to ground in a conventional tractor... seems over 400 hp a front wheel assist conventional tractor is just a waste... it is though an extremely impressive machine... that low RPM MAN is a huge difference from our normal "agriculture" 21-2300 RPM range", container ship engines in a tractor I guess... For the price in the US you could get a Versatile 610 and out pull this thing by miles.... all comes down to application, different strokes for different folks...

True! But I love the transmission when using it on the protill, grain cart, sprayer, heck anything for that matter. Yes it lacks on hard pulling like a drill. But i think it does make up for it on everything else. It truly is a beautiful machine to run: Quiet, smooth, laminated front window, air suspension, air brakes for tractor trailer units if ya want to tug them around the yard, speed, and the best lights you can buy. And that's not considering the warranty and service factors where I pay no service or warranty service calls for the duration of my lease. My payment it always my payment. It's awesome!

in Germany the Fendt 1000 is very succesfull, many Crop Farmer changed a Quadtrac into a Fendt 1000, because he needs less fuel and the Transmission is more reliabel. If you have hilly fields the Case has to do many shiftings and the lifetime oft the Transmission is not very long. If the Fendt goes uphill, the transmission only adjusts the Axial Piston Hydraulic Motors/Pumps, there is no worn. As you said, greatest Problem ist to get the 500 HP to the Ground, you need a weight of 20t at least, better more, and Duals or Triples. Excuse my English, Greets
@Blake_Painter
@Blake_Painter 4 года назад
The farms are smaller, the tillage is much deeper, lot of fields are getting plowed, the Seeder is sometimes combined with a Power Harrow. Look here how deep they are going and how the Fendt is struggling.: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kds3QUiNM6g.html In Germany only a width of 3m is allowed on streets, in some Countys with an approval up to 4m. But with single tyres there is noch Chance to get 500HP on the Ground, that is a great disadvantage oft the Fendt 1000. I know two Fendt 1050 running with 600HP on PTO, works.

A spot on review of a fendt, awesome transmission controls, plenty of handy modes for different things. When talking about fuel usage, in my opinion, the most important numbers are the avg litres per hectare (or gallons per acre???🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️)🤣

The Fendt (any Fendt) (at least what i know and have experienced) is not a tractor made for tilling or seeding. Simply because the transmission is split into a hydraulic part, operated by pumps, and a mechanical part. The hydraulic part is active while driving slow speeds, so the speeds your going while seeding, tilling, evrything that is done while driving relativley slow. The hydraulic transmission has a hp loss of, if im not mistaken, about 15-20%. So you use 100 hp to basically heat up hydraulic oil. While the mechanical transmission is used while going higher speeds. Thats why Fendts might be good at spraying, fertilizing or street transports, but not for most work involving slow speeds and a lot of hp. Correct me if im wrong :)
@bartdereu
@bartdereu 2 года назад
I'll correct you haha : note : this is about the ML transmission, not the variodrive found in this 1000 series. but : Fendt found out, very early in it's development of their vario transmission in the 70's, that the highest effeciency is not to be found when the transmission is using 100% mechanical , but the highest is to be found at 70% hydraulic and 30% mechanical. That's why they put a high/low gearbox in the ML's, because in first gear it could only go 25 km/h , take 70% of that speed and you'll end up at the highest effeciency at 7.5 km/h, a speed at where you do the most ground work. And at this speed , since the effeciency is the highest, you also have the least heating of the oil. I know sounds strange, but trust me they have tested this very , very much. I'm not sure how they dealt with this in the new variodrive transmissions.

Great machine this Fendt Mike, but as you say lacks power for your heavy duty. It can obviously lack up till 100 - 150 hp for your purpose. Wonder how much hp you use for other functions, like for substantial hydraulics (i.e. to the airpumps of yr drill), leaving you with maybe 400 hp at the drawbar? That obviously cannot compete with a 620 or 680 (incl powerboost) hp of a Case or JD.

I believe you are making a mistake. There are two types of power, rated power and maximum power. The first is the power that should really be used at work and the second is for emergency use. Some companies like John Deere use the nominal power in the model name, like 9620RX (620hp), others like New Holland use the maximum value, like the T9 700 (700hp), this ends up creating confusion. The Fendt 1050 has a nominal power of approximately 470hp and 517hp of maximum power. That Bourgault (the small one) requires a power of 500hp, which means that you have always worked within the emergency range, this explains why the tractor does not meet expectations both in power and in fuel consumption. It would not be surprising if problems start to arise. I hope this comment was helpful.

I agree with you good sir, and yes that's about how much power it feels. But nonetheless, that's not how they are being advertised or sold here. And that's the point I am trying to make. Fendt transmissions waste a lot of power which is why they feel a lot less powerful than they claim. I have done a lot of silage carting with different brands and the Fendts are an embarrassment on the road, a Case or John Deere makes a lot better use of their power. Fendt are good at other things, but towing really heavy stuff is not a strong point.

Everything is wrong what Jürgen said, the efficiency is at ~8 km/h (Working Speed) on the highest Level. The Fendt is mainly build for hard work, subsoiling and so on. The efficiency is nearly the same as a Powershift Gearbox, maybe the E23 by JDeere. Was du da schön auf Englisch erzählst ist alles falsch. Bei ca 8 km/h ist der Wirkungsgrad am höchsten.

@@Blake_Painter Woher hast du Deine Informationen? Is there an ZF Gearbox in the Fendt🙈? No!!! YOU TALK ABOUT A ZF OR SDF GEARBOX, But the Fendt works othervice, Here a few lines of a master thesis on VarioGearbox in German😂: Einen etwas anderen Ansatz verfolgt das hydrostatisch leistungsverzweigte Getriebe von AGCO, welches in den Fendt Vario Traktoren zu finden ist (Abbildung 11) [FENDT, 2011].

Good point about the air intake, the older fendts have a pre-cleaner at roof level, maybe it’s a change they had to make going to the MAN engine, as it was likely an off the shelf item than a custom made unit? Not sure. The 1050 retails here in AUS for $530K AUD, it’s a serious amount of cash. Something odd is going on with the way Fendt/Challenger rate the horsepower of their tractors. Ive seen other reviews saying the same- they don't pull like the engine hp numbers say they should! I checked out the nebraska test numbers and it's really noticeable there! Compared to a Deere or Case, the Agco brands are getting FAR less hp to the drawbar. And yet they get more hp to the PTO. Weird I dont know what to think of all this.
@thedragongamer2145
@thedragongamer2145 4 года назад
The problem with the horsepowerraiting of Fendt is, that they rate the hp that are coming dirently from the motor. Due to the hydraulik drive these tractors have a efficiency "loss" and they cant bring the whole power to the ground. This is because the powertransmission happens via fluid and not with a solid gearshift. The PTO on the other hand is powered by a Planetgear (ger: Planetengetriebe) witch gets his power direktly from the motor.

Blake Painter Of course ,I was a farmer,wheelspin isn't the problem .You can put triples on that thing and it won't pull it up those hills any quicker because of a number of reasons #1 the transmission uses multiple hydraulic pumps to operate and then all that oil has to be cooled = up to 20% power loss ,these tractors are okay in Europe running around at 20mph towing a hay cart but in the real world conditions of America or Australia where heat and extreme lugging is encountered they fail dismally. #2 Weight distribution, a full frame articulated tractor of the same hp has better weight distribution ,usually more inbuilt ballast and the ability to carry more. Btw a plain gear transmission or powershift will always be more efficient than anything else.

Hi Mike, very interesting. On your fuel consumption inaccuracy comments, I wonder if the read out is calibrated to European gallons (where the fendt is obviously made). 23 European gallons would be around 100 litre/ hour / 27 US Gallons / hour and about right for a 500hp tractor? Might go some way to explaining the discrepancy between what you measure when filling and what the readout in the cab is saying.

@@mikemitchell2554 YT just recommended me your video about new 1050 and I immediately subscribed. As others have pointed out this tractor is designed for Europe, where we usually work at higher speeds so you can get some more power down to the ground and most importantly we use PTO. Farmers around here have long ago realized that if you need PTO power you buy Fendt but if you mainly need just a drawbar you buy JD since it gets more power to the ground. Around me there is a few contractors that use 1050 on wood chippers and other tractors (lots of JD and JCB's) on trailers.

Hey sorry you didn't like the review there good sir, but regardless of your opinion and whether or not in Europe 517hp at the 'flywheel' is sufficient doesn't change the fact that they under perform. Truth is, I am not in Europe... I am from Canada, and around here this is small tractor with a big price tag. It is being advertised by Fendt (Agco) as a 500hp tractor - and in my opinion, that is at the very least false advertising and at best, miss informing their buyers. I don't have a bias, and if I did - it would probably be for Fendt, (as I own more of them) but with that being said, if I buy a 620hp (what is being advertised) Case quad from CNH, I expect such hp. If I buy a 500hp Fendt, I expect that hp.. But the truth of the matter is - when it comes to pulling, they under perform... And that's what I feel any potential buyer should know.

Sorry good sir! Apparently RU-vid held up your comment - along with 46 others for I have no idea why 🤷‍♂️... But to the point: I am not disagreeing with you on the Eng HP, I am confident it is around 500hp but that doesn't mean it can get it to the ground. As far as the airfliters: that's an every couple day thing and to be honest it doesn't noticeably pull any better with a new one vs 46%. As far as the air pressure: you are right, lower air pressures roll harder, but Fendt encourages you to run them low and I need them low. As far as the drive train losses: Yes! That's where I would focus most my attention. But if we re going to start splitting hairs, then we should also look other things like the twin Hyd pumps roaring away back there, or the soil conditions, and or the texture as you know would play a huge roll (Example: sandy or heavy clay) You see, the real story here isnt necessarily whether or not it has 500hp and how well it can put it to the ground. But rather how it campares to the other 500HP competitors of its class and not only on HP but the cost of the overall performance of that machine. Now some people will value every tractor differently and that's ok... But for me, I need it for a wide rage of things and around here that's a small tractor with a big price tag. It under performs compared to those other classes..
@mikemitchell2554
@mikemitchell2554 4 года назад
@nordhornySo do you agree or disagree that Fendt advertises the 1050 at 500HP? Because when I ask not only my salesman but also reps for Agco they are quite proud to have 500HP In a MFD tractor... Heck, it's the biggest on the market!.. Some might even correct you and say "actually, it's 517HP" 🤷‍♂️😂 When I am in the 500HP tractor market( And I am Once again) , I am told it has 500HP.. I was not told it has 267HP, or 387HP or 425HP... No, I ordered another new 1050 (green this time) and was told its 500 HP bulging to 517HP. Well, ok then.. So I have a 500HP tractor on order again. @mikemitchell2554 4 года назад
Because I can gain a half mile an hour at 1700rpms with the transmission in manual mode at 4%. If you run Auto mode on the transmission and keep it in TMS, it will lose a half mile an hour in speed.. And the target speed is 5mph.. It can't hardly hold 3.2mph in auto.

@@mikemitchell2554 then there is something wrong. It's absolutely impossible that there's such a big difference because the engine has a constant power down to 1500rpm. Did you ever had it on a dyno? If the pressure rises less than 13% while the engine rpm goes down from 1700 to 1500 there's something wrong with the engine. Hey yes, been dynoed and this is my 3rd 1050 and they are all the same on the same load. The problem is that it's way too big of a load for the tractor, and you need a run up to the hills and believe it or not I can gain a half mile per a hour.. That's not much, but when ur stuck at 3.2mph when you should be 5mph, that feels like ur flying! 😂

@@mikemitchell2554 never heard of that. I've worked with measurement systems for pulling power. And the tested 1050 had it's best pulling power at 1500rpm just as the technical data let expect. Thats why I'm wondering

But you dont test the hp on the field :D should they have an extra number for "on field hp" ????? Is there a hp indication for cars when its wet ? because they cant get the hp "to the ground" wtf no there isnt... its engine power nothing else. Ford mustangs with 450 hp are slower than golf R with 300 hp thats how things are going ^^

Serious question: can someone explain me the NA-Agriculture ideology about tire-sizes, tire pressure, hole year row crop tire use, ballasting, duals-tripples, etc.? In a lot of cases where people from NA complaining about pulling force, traction/slippage, fuel efficiency on there standard tractors i am sometimes speechless after they explain their tire/weights combination on the machine and with witch application there want to working with. Extreme example: Why they are working with full influatet dual/triple in the rear, single on the front and using row crop tires for cultivating? on top with a 3.3ton front weight and no rear weights??? @Mike: about your complain about the power and fuel efficiency - i dont know your setup in that video but i bet there is a lot of potential. Sadly you dont let us know about the hole configuration and judged without the context. I wish you a lot of fun with that great mashine.

3300kg on the front with duel 650/65R38 AxioBib front tires running at 10psi (any less air than that, and you can't turn due to the weight on the front) with 3bars or lugs of squat on the ground. On the back is 6- 750/75R46s AxioBib tires with 3580kgs of weight in the tires with an optional 2400kgs running 10PSI inside, 8psi outside and 5psi far outside putting 3bars of squat on the ground.

Finally a smart European reply I live in Canada and em also in the dark like you 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️why are the Americans so dumb?, I don't know if he realizes but mike is losing 20hp per tire and probably has the a/c on high! For Fendts feul economy their sure doing damn good. Get a jd that puts 500hp to the ground and watch your feul go down!

@@fendtclaas8689 🤔😂.... Are you saying that if you buy a Fendt tractor, you can't turn your "A/C on high" in fear of robbing your tractor of HP and therefore potentially not being able to put it's rated HP to the ground? 🤦‍♂️ Ok, i understand that you obviously really love Fendt tractors, and you should they are awesome tractors! I own many of these tractors myself.. But what you should NOT do is "love" a brand name so much that you can't see its flaws.. Yes, that's right, Fendt has flaws too.. And so does every colour of equipment out there - and that is fact regardless of your opinion. Now, I am quite aware of the HP losts due to low tire inflation, overall tractor weight, amount a duels/triples, air filter restrictions, and so on.. Infact, if we re going to start splitting hairs, why not talk about real HP consumers like the twin Hyd pumps roaring away in the back for the drill? Or low tire pressures for 3 lugs on the ground (Fendt recommends - and I need) to keep that rolling? Or how how bout the soil conditions when seeding? Or bigger yet, how bout soil texters (example sandy or heavy clay) those are huge! As you see, I could go on all day... 🤷‍♂️ So if we are going to talk HP consumption, the sky is the limit, but let's talk tangible factors. But.... At the end the of the day, theses are all factors that John Deere and Case also in the same field have to over come and doesn't change the fact the currently the 500hp Fendt under performs in the 500HP class of tractors - focused only on pulling. Now that being said, is it an awesome tractor? Yes. Does it have many unique features? Yes. Is it well made? Yes. But let's not let a colour blind us of flaws...

What i want to tell you is, i will not support the Americans, never! and that is why i will never buy a jd, case or nh! I don't know if you realize but America is raping our country then using our resources to build products and make feul and sell it back to us! So what are they doing?! Stealing! So if you're complaining about feul or pre def cost blam it on your neighbors. Ived talked to Americans who are absesd with their jd and i said to them don't you care about feul economy and they laughed at me and said feul is so cheap down here we don't give damn! All thats great, but tractors have got so expensive and so technical which we all like cool stuff but the down side is they are outrageously price and the 1970, 80s, even 60s tractors you can fix, yea not bells and whistles but 30 40 50 years from know, they want be around, the elecronics want last, the motor, chassis and all will be there but it want run move or work with kut all thus stuff and nobody seems to be thinking of that cause the industries want to build to trade in, where no one really ever owns the tractors, just like cars, trade it in like a revolving door ever 2 to 5 years, so it be out if price doesnt matter, your just making payments for the rest of your life, so technically a percentage of your cop is for equipment and never goes down, tractor prices go up, pay for crop goes down amd we are tring to survive on what's in between. Just a thought, oh dont forget this influx of foreign machine in every part of our heavy equipment world, which is this globalist push, we already have to many countrues in our fields as it is, 80 percent of our crops are already sold to everyone else but us.

Colonial Roofing of North Carolina I agree with what you’re saying about the technology. But on the other hand the technology helps farmers achieve the ultimate crop yield on their property, higher yield, combined with higher efficiency means more money in the farmers pocket.

The tractor isn’t big enough for the job, simple. You should have put one on demo drilling before buying one. You can’t really compare it to a quad track or a rx it’s two completely different beasts.

Thanks for the input Aaron.. Tho I disagree, the tractor is big enough for the job.. It's Weighted for it, it has the traction for it, and it has the required HP for it, it just lacks on the efficiency of the latter.

Mike Mitchell that tractor will never be as efficient putting power to the ground as a quad track or rx, pulling a rig that size. Put triples on it and I think it would help considerably.

That I agree with! But that's not how it's been advertised and pushed.. That's the difference.. In regards to demoing a drill, that's not something that is done around here .
