i love Damian Villa but as taekwondo guy myself i always get nervous when Villa fights, he is sort of representing us. lol but as someone who has jumped back and forth between Muay Thai and taekwondo, his biggest problem is that he doesn't seem to know how to use his punches to set up a kick, you can be the best taekwondo fighter in the world but hands will always be faster, i learned that the hard way when i was getting punched in the face as a black belt by amateur muay thai guys.

I agree. Am always impressed with Villa’s TKD kicks. But he can’t just keep using them just for defense. The judges put high value on aggressive offense, because karate guys who are point fighters generally also love to wait for the opponent to move in first then counter-blitz (which is why Robbie still managed to close range despite Villa’s fancy kicks). So they made that rule to prevent people from just being defensive first which doesn’t help Villa either. I know he takes up boxing, that’s good. But he needs to incorporate boxing punches into his TKD stances. So he can kick, punch or block/defend fast from just one stance and not get confused. Nevertheless, big respect to Villa for being a brave warrior by “coming over” to our pit :) I genuinely hope to see a great battle between him and a karateka next time!

I notice Robbie’s style is Shito-Ryu. I wonder if that’s the fighting style, close range then strike once or twice and get out. Instead of getting really close staying there and blitzing like mist other karatekas.

I remember him from tkd tournaments and he was a goat ! When I see him this Times damn ;/ he Cant use kick ! In olympic style you have lot of kicks ! He looks like green belt ;/
