Although I don’t consider it a McDonnell Douglas aircraft since it spent its entire production run as the 717-200. It is comforting knowing that MD blood runs through its veins.

I hate to inform you about this, but Delta plans to retire these little planes in 5 years. I know. I'm bummed out about it, too. Hopefully, I'll get to fly aboard one of them before then.

@@heatherstub What about Qantas and Hawaiian, they have them too. I think I heard Hawaiian is looking for a replacement (A220?) but haven't heard any talk about Qantas replacing theirs. Heck, Qantas still has Fokkers as well.

the first time i ever heard it was in an ERJ145 and that is exactly what i thought, and for YEARS i swore i'd rather change my flight than fly one of those because their "engines were unreliable" lmaooo

Thankfully that's not until 2025. At least for the 717's. A lot can change in 4 years.

The 717 has Rolls Royce engines. Meaning between he MD-80, MD-90 and 717, they all had different engine manufacturers. Pratt & Whitney for the 80, IAE for the 90 and RR for the 717.

Yes, you are correct. But I don’t consider this a McDonnell Douglas product. Just like I don’t consider the Airbus A220 a Bombardier product. It is comforting knowing that it has mad dog blood running through his veins, but it’s just not the same. In my opinion, this does sound very similar to the MD-90. But it does not compare at all to the MD-80.

Well, I generally do, I don't remember why I didn't on this one, but there was some reason. Probably the passenger next to me trying to talk to me haha.

No, I think they plan to have this for a good few years. This is newer and was bought from defunct airlines.

They are, but only slightly. The first notch of flaps on the 717 is almost impossible to see. Perhaps someone with more knowledge will see this and give a better answer, but I've noticed this on Hawaiian's 717's over the years. A lot of times, the takeoff flap settings is so small, you can barely see the difference.

@@sla31 I thought the same thing. Just before taxiing to the runway from the gate (after pushback), it looks to me like the flaps come down and then are retracted back up. Don't know why that is. I have noticed though that it's hard to tell whether or not the flaps are down on 717's, of course unless when landing.

Yes, the first flap setting on the 717, which I believe is only 5 degrees, is very hard to actually see from above the wing. But they were deployed here. Thanks for watching!

There was no additional screening. It’s an interesting situation. Because of HIPAA laws, the airlines are not allowed to ask passengers any type of medical questions. Even if it’s to safeguard the other passengers. I used to work for American Airlines, and we were told in our training that passengers with infectious diseases were not allowed to fly. But, despite that, we were also told that we were not allowed to ask them if they have, have had, or suspect they may have any type of sickness. It violates their medical rights. So... is that something that might change after this? Maybe. But for now, it’s still illegal for airlines to really do much because of people’s “medical rights.” As for masks. They were required on board all of the flights unless the passenger was under 10 years old (I think), or you had a medical reason to not wear one. Again, the airlines can’t ask to see proof of that. So anyone can say that they medically can’t wear a mask and the airline cannot force them. As for the airports. They were not required to be worn inside the terminals. I did, a lot of other people did. But it was not required. I’ve seen a few airports like Phoenix changing that. But so far Tulsa, Houston, and Atlanta, which were the three airports I visited on this trip, it was not required inside the terminal.

@@turbofanlover Thanks man. Appreciate it! Yeah, even with service animals. We were allowed to ask "what service does the dog provide." But we were not allowed to ask "Why do you need a service animal?" Or "What affliction causes you to need the animal?" You can phrase it however you like, you get what I'm saying. Medical stuff was very "touch and go" at the airlines haha. It's the same with TSA as well. They have to follow the same HIPAA rules, so they can't ask medical questions either. Want to take a gallon of water though the checkpoint? You can't right? Because 3 oz. of liquid is the max. Wrong. You show up with a gallon of water, and as soon as you say "it's for medical purposes." Even if that purpose is to "take a pill." They have to let you take it though. They aren't allowed to ask any specifics about the "medical condition." They are allowed to test the liquid at that point, but they can't deny you entry. Now, I'm not advocating people do this, and I don't either, but I just wanted to use it as an example of how strict medical laws are.

@@sla31 Yup...I gotcha. And again...I'm a bit surprised. I'm assuming that it's just not legally possible to put in place some kind of temporary screening process, due to the "extraordinary circumstances" that we're currently dealing with...because this doesn't seem to me to be exactly ideal in terms of the ongoing efforts to control the spread of this virus. Were you at all uncomfortable or nervous, getting back on an aircraft, given the current rules?

@@turbofanlover At one point I heard the politicians in DC were looking into "temporarily loosening" HIPAA rules to have temporary screening measures, but I don't know what ever came of that. You know how us American's can be about our rights. A lot of people aren't too eager to give up rights even if it's for the greater good. As for me. I wasn't really very nervous. And once I got to the airport and saw how empty they were, I really wasn't nervous at all. I took my own personal precautions which I felt protected me pretty well, but there were so few people in the airports, it wasn't hard to distance at all. On this flight, I was the only person in the last four rows, and I had the whole row to myself on every flight. I have a harder time keeping away from people in Wal Mart than I did on any of these flights.
