The city council really had nothing to do with it. He was released by a judge and the judge did it because he had to follow the STATE law as written and passed by the state legislature and signed into law by the governor. The city can't make it's own laws if they conflict with state law.

So just tell me who's mainly RESPONSIBLE for Officer Jonathan Diller's tragic death (besides the two pathetic career criminal, that is)?? The soft-on-crime criminal justice system favored the Demoncrats, that's who!

It was the New York State Legislature who passed the 'no bail' law and the governor who signed it into law (that was Cuomo and not the current governor). If you know anything at all about how the 'criminal justice system' in the United States works (geez don't they teach this in school anymore) you would know that we, the people. have all the power through our elected representatives. The criminal justice system cannot just do whatever it wants. It MUST follow the U.S. Constitution, the constitution of the respective state in which the incident occurs and the laws as passed by the respective ELECTED state legislatures.

No it didn't. It was a STATE law, not a city one that let the guy out of jail. A mayor cannot do anything in their own city/town to override state law. Because their jurisdiction is local. And a mayor cannot sign any legislation into law that conflicts with state law.

Actually, you're wrong about that. I don't support Adams, especially because I'm a republican. But the law that let the guy out was a STATE law passed by the New York State Legislature and signed by the governor. The mayor really had no say in it. If state law did away with bail and it says a judge has to let him out, there is nothing the mayor or any OTHER mayor in any city or town in New York can do about it!
