Do I have to remove the old coating from the factory before applying the Meguiars Headlight Coating? My car is pretty new and I do have some minor scratches on the headlight. Can I start with 2000K-3000K, polish compund and then Clear Coat? Also, do you recommend using water with 2000K-3000K?

Hi I just came across your video… great work and results look amazing! I have a bit of an issue and hoping you could chime in… I opened up my headlamps to paint the housing… and I decided to clean the inside of the lens- not realizing there was a coating inside. I used windex and all of a sudden it got sticky 😭. I was able to get all the sticky out and it is clear again. There are surface scratches but my question is… what do you recommend I can do to salvage this before I can put them back together? Any info would be greatly appreciated 🙌 thank you

@theheadlightrestorationpro 8 месяцев назад
Sorry dude my best advice would be to get new headlights once you open the headlights they're nothing but trouble they're always going to fail you and do weird things various levels of malfunction and once you mess with that inside lens not too much you can really do.. and she just have thousands of hours to deal with this thing and keep playing with it forever but in my opinion is not worth it because it almost always will malfunction in a matter of months if not weeks whether it's to seal or the polycarbonate lens or the actual components of the light.. even when professionals that do that as a service always have issues and the lights all the crap... It's highly advised not to do these things even though people do them they don't tell you the dark secret that the lights are shi# afterwards..💯

Absolutely no need for these pads in this formula...the are too close to one another in grit size and sanding ability.. you could use them but you would just be spending the a lot more money to get exactly the same outcome.. I've tried it and come to the conclusion there's no difference except expenditure of funds... And general the finer the disk they get more expensive... Hope this answers your question.. Sorry, I can't really answer the question this depends highly on what location in general you are at and a bunch of different variabilities like: what city, what services you're offering, do you have a shop or are you mobile, what is the quality of your work, how long have you been doing it experience is a big thing, many different factors.. I was just suggest doing some research in your area.. everything realistic with yourself and your customers on your skill set and level versus your pricing.. Lot of factors that you'd have to figure out for yourself The main thing is demand which pretty much boils down to what city and area you live in.. I touch bases on this in a couple videos. Headlight restoration varies and you're given town and you're given skill if you do poor work you can charge top dollar if you do the best work in your town you can only charge so much.. it all depends where you're located hotter cities means more need for headlight restoration more dense cities like, Los Angeles, Arizona, Texas etc .. will be in a higher demand because of the population density and the bad weather hot weather..

Hey may love the vids! Question, what do you think of spray max 2k 2 in 1? It states it is a head light clear and that it has UV protection. Is that better or any different than the 2k you mention in your other videos? Thank you in advance
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 2 года назад
Yes these are the primary 2K clear that I speak of, the two-in-one the one that says for headlights is not as bad as the others people generally tend to use the others because they're more readily available. In my opinion even the headlight version or the one that can be used for headlights bonds to headlight too hard which leads to damage of the actual surface of the headlight.. also they are all heavily scratch resistant, extremely scratch resistant.. so when they go bad again which they will there's no permanent fix for a headlight, there's no headlight restoration that will last forever,, so if you ever hear somebody say permanent headlight restoration they have no idea what they're talking about... Anyways they are extremely scratch resistant which is basically what you're doing when you sand off that clear coat to be able to send down the the damage surface of the headlight underneath the clear coat.. in some cases it's damn near impossible, others it'll just take a long time and a lot of material... And some of them will just make things worse for the headlight they heat up and smear around they're not made with the mindset that you will have to remove this in two or three or 4 years to provide a fresh headlight restoration... Which is highly not optimal... For the person restoring the headlight and for the customer,, because now they're going to have to pay more because the guy doing the headlights is going to have to work more, not only that the potential of permanent damage is much higher.. UV repellent is pretty much microscopic reflective particles inside of the clear coat and they pretty much oxidize and die after a while so the actual clear coat will start turning yellow in any clear or any UV clear coat, once this does these 2K products are so hard it overheats the surface of the headlight even faster than it would if there was nothing there leading to permanent damage... They are good products but in my experience they do not belong on headlights.. also cost-effectiveness is not there, for business, or even for the regular person there's much better and cheaper products out there that are safer for your headlights, these products as you know once they're mixed when you pop the bottom with the red top you have one use that's it, you got to time limit on using the product and those go for about $30 a can... As you see in my videos , I tell everybody 2K clear is the worst thing you can put on your headlights 💯.... Thank you for watching and thanks for the question.. hopefully plan to get some new videos out there been really busy...

I went ahead and used all the same products listed in the description, what would be your advice if I’m seeing small swirl marks and fish tail looking sand marks after I do a pass with compound? Is it applying too much pressure during the p500 stage?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 2 года назад
Exactly, you're on to it leaving the swirls behind at that stage would be either one or two things, too much pressure, or not enough of the p800 sanding stage with the hand sanding of the 800 as well.. But 95% of the time if you're following my videos you're applying too much pressure remember when you wash my videos I always say you don't have to apply pressure like that just the pressure and weight of the drill per se... Very light firm pressure let the drill do the work you don't have to push hard.. I'm 99% sure that's what's going on and when you do see that cuz even sometimes I get that as well you just do it over again start from ground zero and it should be quicker the second time around you won't have to do as much but still do it all over...👍🏼💯

Hi THRP thank you for all of your great videos. You have taught me a lot about headlight Restoration. Question for you please. If the headlight is just lightly discolored would you start with your P 800 disc or something else? Thanks Tom
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 2 года назад
Thank you for your support it is much appreciated... Usually I wouldn't start with 800, I would still run the process just the amount of removal and time removing that first layer would be different. There are times where I use one pad for both lights and barely take off any material because there's not much of discoloring or damage, then I rely more on the services of the 800 disc, I'm finished out the restoration with the same formula.. It's just a different gauging of how much you need to use the 500 disc.. the only variant that I do is if I have a life that only has one specific area of peeling or damage but the rest of the light looks good, then I used the 500 only on the bad part and use the 800 on the good parts just to dig into it a little bit to have something for the Cody to adhere to... But that's a rare scenario as well usually just a little bit warmer and on the top part.. Hope that answers your question.. Thanks for watching

@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 2 года назад
It's very rare that a factory light is this hard,, hyundais sometimes have really hard surface light.. That or somebody has done this before and spray 2K clear on it which is almost impossible to grind off. On these lights sometimes it's best to fix the problem area and fade into the non samish area and possibly just hit with an 800 to run a bit and then seal over everything with clear coat.. You can only work with what you can..

I love the results you are getting! And I have so many questions... What clear coat do you use for the colder and wetter seasons? Would wet sanding with the P500 make any difference? What do you think of Meguiars PlasticX product? Could you use a ceramic polish as the final protectant instead of the spray coating? Keep up the good work man!
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 2 года назад
Thanks for watching my videos... Appreciate it... As far as a clear coat goes you can use this Maguire's year round, only whether or not good in is windy... Then I use towelettes..3m.. What standing with the p500 won't do anything but make the sanding less efficient, it will cut the power of the disc.. My glass plastic x is okay I find it to be a little watery at times.. I used the 3M stuff that's in most of my videos because it's thick and mostly oil-based with saturates the lights a lot better.. I would never use a ceramic coating or polish or anything on headlights, I've tried many ceramic sealants and polishes things like that on the headlights they do not seem to work correctly they always have a cloudiness to them no matter what company they're from.. Hope....that answers some of your questions..

If you find stuff flinging everywhere, hold the polisher away from the vehicle and pull the trigger, it will spin that moisture out... Also you can even get away with out hitting it with liquid ever if you keep it saturated with the compound...also always shake up the compound before use...never wash the pad ,it just keep grinding down, it resurfaces it's self until there is not enough to use...
