@paulio7250 I love how casual he was about lifting insane amounts of weight from session to session. You know like everyone does this on a random Thursday bench session. ( but to him I guess it is normal) you see he's got a younger brother how's insanely strong as well.
Sam is going to blow up and be as big as Bromley, natural hypertrophy, bald Omni man, Steve Shaw, etc… The group of intelligent lifters who are saving fitness
Can't believe I watched all 3 1/2 hrs of this (over a couple days), but never came to a point where I wanted to turn it off. Very wide ranging and interesting talk--and I'm not even in the strongman/powerlifting racket...thx!✌
Seriously jazzed for this one. Sam’s channel is one of the main reasons I created a RU-vid account. Edit: Great conversation-really enjoyed this. I find the word “relatable” irritating for reasons I can’t quite articulate, but I’m struggling to come up with a better one. Thanks fellas.
Wdym by that? I actually want to know are you referring to the fact that Sam talked about people who repeat something out loud(when they know it is true) or not? Because what he said made me question something, I’ve been doing that since I remember(in school) and although I am aware of the fact that it can be annoying and a little time consuming; I’ve never done it to flex or something like that,I’ve done it due to the fact that I can understand the subject better(at least as “deep” as I am aware of it) But I feel a little unsure about it if it roots to insecurities or is it just some random habit

Great interview. Can relate to finding it super hard to make friends in your 30s. I've been in my town for a decade and feel like I only really established myself 3 years ago.
This was refreshing. I loved the part about superiority complex. Most Doctors and coaches suffer from this lol. It's ridiculous. Like yah, you have ADHD, we prescribe a life long addiction to laboratory grade Amphetamines.
1:17:00 -- I highly disagree with this sentiment that newer lifters have weak chests but elite lifters have weak triceps. The way that I see it is that it comes down to lankiness. Lankier lifters get more stimulus in their triceps from benching, relative to their pecs. Stockier lifters get more stimulus in their pecs from benching relative to their triceps. The vast majority of elite benchers advocate for more triceps isolation, e.g. Matt Wenning; however, this is reverse causation. Stockier lifters are naturally built for benching and so a higher proportion of elite benchers are stocky and thus respond better to triceps isolation. From my experience, lankier lifters respond far better to pec isolation work, regardless of advancement, because they'll hit their MRV for triceps sooner from their main bench work, and thus require additional pec stimulus. The reverse is true for stocky lifters.
Could it be possible that both are true. The part Sam mentioned about being explosive off the chest and then coasting to lockout on submax work is certainly true in my experience. I’m not sure if I’m considered lanky or barrel chested anymore but I was certainly lankier when I started lifting. I’ve never really done any tricep isolation before and I’m hitting them hard now and seeing major progress
This is not true for all.lanky lifters, in fact my pecs get hit hard from bench and my tris didn't almost at all, there's a study that unless it's above 80 or 90 percent bench is mostly pecs . After my past block I've realised the best way to bring bench up is hit all that musculature with as much volume as possible
Interesting thoughts, I’m very strong off my chest then grind to the top for the last 6”. My pecs get a great stimulus from bench, so do my lats lol. I’ve found tricep work is what I need and the pecs take care of themselves. I’m 5’10” no Trex arms, but I’m barrel chested.
I think it would be amazing for you to interview Lucas Hardie from Range of Strength. Out of everyone in the flexibility/odd lifts world, I think he is the most interesting
Listened to the full video while commuting. It was great how you guys sparked off one another and branched into a lot of other topics. This could have gone on for 6 hours probably.
Alex when you need to grab the ruler grab the ruler brother .it keeps you grounded and able to focus on the subject . Your brain has a lot of creativity an your spirit gets caught up in the moment and sometimes you need a break because it can become overwhelming . Adhd is a gift your psychic an you can pick up on other peoples thoughts and your not even aware of this . Its ok focus on numbers to bring you back if you need to . Count 1 to 9 in your head focus on breathing . Kratom strands also help me with this . Its a gift as difficult as it can be to work with . This is why you need to work alone . It can also cause sucidal thoughts and depression . Keep your self grounded certain hand positions help to. Taoching your fingers to the opposite hand
I'm addicted to Kratom. It got me into working out and got me off of Adderall, but its a double edged sword for sure. The fact that I can function normally on MIT45 extracts is a bad thing. Kratom is highly addictive and just ends up filling the void. It has helped me a ton, but I'm about 3 years into my addiction. It's not good to take it every day. The liver damage is real lol.
Im only 30mins in so it may get mentioned, but would be interesting to know the strength levels before starting PEDs and the progression after adding PEDs. I understand theres an improvement in diet and training that improves numbers but adding PEDs definitely adds another level, plus interesting to know how it effected his training structure and recovery ie longer training cycle or more bench days per weeks etc. I understand it can be taboo but would be interesting to see how its implemented into a powerlifting training cycle/strategy.
In the interview that Sam did with Alex Leonidas, he says that he got up to a 420 bench (at about 200 lbs body weight), 600 squat (at about 210 body weight), and 675 deadlift before starting PEDs. It's in the section of the interview labeled 'Natty vs Enhanced TRUTH'.
@curiouswanderer3009 That's very impressive numbers. I think it's good for people to know how far people can actually go naturally. I think it might help people reconsider not taking them or maybe taking them too soon. Look into milking their training and programing dry first and maybe many would be happy with the gains from that??
@@dansmith9724 Definitely. Even Sam himself said (in the interview with Alex) that he now thinks he started PEDs too soon and could have killed more gains from perfecting other factors.
@AlexanderBromley would you mind defining not likely? Would such a person just be very dedicated and not injure themselves, or would you consider that you'd have to be the best in the world type feat?
@@spartakos3178For example FreakieD is a pretty strong dude, but I think even he was over 260,when he did the 550 benchpress. 600 is pretty much unachievable if you don't have the genetic factors for that(ribcage structure, shoulder width, limb length, etc.) and on top of that you have to bloatmax yourself into oblivion.
@kindadumbkindastrong4429 I would actually be pushing the bodyweight down. Been within striking distance of 500 for a while but I'm getting older. Personal goal has been mid 500s. Overhead is weak sauce though so I'm torn between focusing on trying to reach better numbers there or pushing what I thought was gonna be my limit. I need to cut down to 260 for physical demands of my job. I'm capable as a super heavy but would be much better at a mid 200s lb bodyweight.
