Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal sit down to talk about their careers together all the fights they had while playing for Los Angeles Lakers on Players only interview. #Kobe #Shaq
As a 32 year old born in LA in 1991, watching these two dominate basketball in the early 2000s was probably the highlight of my childhood. Damn, I miss those days....
Man, I did security for Kobe during his trial. I had had just left MARSOC and a buddy who owned a security company offered me a job. About 18 months after, during his trial, he needed full time security. I refuse to make judgments on what happened, I wasn’t there, but Kobe treated me with great respect when I was with him. He was funny, intelligent, and would have been a great soldier if he wasn’t so damn tall. I never got to meet Shaq. At that point, the rivalry was in full swing. Although, outside of the press, I never heard him say a bad thing about Shaq. He dubbed me the “White Death”, because he was fascinated by my military career as an operator. One night he made me spend hours making drawings of how our team would have breached and cleared the home he was renting. Literally spent 3 hours drawing maps and explaining to him how we kept each other safe. It was never the killing aspect he wanted to know about, it was always the team aspect.
What an awesome story and experience. Two people from very different fields of operations who had common ground and respect over teamwork and the precision that goes into it. Thank you for sharing it.
Goober Mcgoobs Shaq just said that this sit down was the last time they spoke to each other face to face before Kobe passed. Just hits different now watching this back, because they really needed this sit down and they got to clear the air on their past issues.
This interview truly highlights Kobes ability to read people & his emotional intelligence.. probably gained from years spent people watching when feeling isolated as a child.. It also shows what an incredible coach he could of been in his later years, his ability to simply break down mistakes they made in games years ago is outstanding. RIP the black mamba 🖤
Very poignant moments 33:07 Kobe greeting Shareef “what’s up young bull!”, and 34:02 Shaq acknowledging Kobe’s generosity with the MVP trophy (34:37 you know Shareef loves you), realizing how fundamentally kind Kobe was to him all through the years.
What's crazy is he knee what he was doing but still made choices that in my eyes...made him a bad leadee...people overlook that he barely made the playoff unless Phil was there to check his bs and his ego....I don't think he'd have any rings by himself without phil.
Just realized I’m watching a lot of Kobe Bryant videos on 8/24. 😢 still can’t believe he’s gone. When the breaking news hit that he had passed away I was driving and my girl at the time said OMG. She couldn’t even tell me because she knew how much he meant to me growing up. So she said “you need to pull over” so I did and then she told me. I cried instantly, took me awhile to get myself back. For a man I had never met he had such an impact in my life. Love always, Forever Kobe!!!
The strange thing is that Shaq said Kobe's final game was the last time he ever talked to him?! But this exists so this is very confusing anyway R.I.P. Kobe🙏
@@vincenta1382 there's talking to someone for a 'interveiw' and there's actually talking to someone .. There's a difference just have to think about it .
Yeah maybe but they probably talked before and after the interview too🤨and they were supposed to be friends so I'm really surprised I'm happy that they left in good terms tho that's the most important
Sphephelo Mnguni well what if they were all together Biggie 2pac with Michael Jordan and Shaquille o Neal and Kobe Bryant rapping and hooping all together! What should you think about that?
Man. Watching this again in 2023 is still tough for me. Still brings me to tears sometimes. GREATEST DUO EVER and I’ll stand on that. Rest in peace to MY 🐐, KOBE BEAN BRYANT.
It's weird. I'm watching this almost forgetting that Kobe is gone. It's almost like my mind refuses to accept that fact. And even though it's been over 2 years, I don't think my mind will accept it for a while. It is beautiful to see that him and Shaq had this moment and got closure though, because u know it would have eaten at Shaq forever. Rest easy Bean🙏🏿
Scot Land nah man, he knew he was done. If you look at his trainer, which was Jordan’s trainer as well. They go in depth about how the workouts were. He knew he was happy leaving the game as much as we want to say he could do more. Damn just sucks that he’s gone more than anything
38:49 brought me to tears. At first, it started as a humorous laugh as Kobe teased Shaq. Then, it faded to black and showed pictures of Kobe, smiling, happy.....then reality reminded me that we lost an amazing human being. RIP to Kobe, GiGi and those lost in that terrible accident.
I love that Kobe said, "I'm glad you won 4th, I needed that" and then you see his face change and go into Mamba mode, the rage swelling up, the passion spilling out "I wanted everyone to hate me so I can come back with so much anger and vengeance." that moment had me shook for real.
This whole interview I had chills I don't think some people understand how his death affected some of us this man was literally apart of our childhoods. He have a family but he also had a job and we watch him do his job which was play basketball.. R.I.P to both GG and Kobe
The best way I can explain it to people, it’s like hearing that Superman died or something. He was such a large figure that I never even considered his death as a possibility. Absolute Legend
I sobbed for hours the day he passed. I was already super depressed at that time and finding out he passed away…it was like I actually lost someone I knew. I still tear up all the time over it.
@@JuanTonSoupXP Same. I cried uncontrollably. it was like finding out superman died or something. It was inconceivable. The fact that his daughter and other innocent people died with him is just that much more depressing. RIP to the greatest LA legend of all-time
Of course man. That's his "brother." I'm sure you have a good friend that you would consider a non-blood brother, the guy that would be the best man at your wedding. I know I do. A couple of them.
@@kingaries488 Sometimes we meet our "bros" late in life. I was fortunate to have grown from childhood with one of them, and the other three I met in college. My bro from childhood easily meshed with my college bros, and we basically became a clique 😂😂😂. Now in our 30s, we all still have each other's backs. Someone needs money, relationship/marriage advice, a foot in the ass when one of us is stupid (real friends hold no punches), a place to crash, food, whatever. From bro love to tough love, we're covered. Sorry for the monologue. I took a mental trip down memory lane 😂😂
I love the fact that Kobe said @ 29:30-29:45 he acknowledges he wanted to be hated. There is a huge difference in him and Lebron and that is one major difference is he is comfortable making others uncomfortable and being disliked. Just that sink in , this man is a legend. Also, think of all those dynasties he mentioned of the 80's Lakers and 90's Bulls. He is the only one to win championships with two different types of teams. That Lakers team was pretty much a unit and the Bulls for the most part were the same key players. Kobe and Shaq 2000-2003 team totally different than the 2009-2010 Lake show.
cant believe u said that bs right there. U dont know what happened or did not happen. If he did it why wasnt he imprisoned then? Like mike tyson was altough even in that case we dont know whether he did something like this or not
oh so u meant he cheated on his wife just checked the vid 😂 i thought u meant rape or something like that .... still didnt expect this one, its a shame he did that. Crazy are the statistics of how many people cheat and also divorce in todays world if we dont fix this how are we all supposed to live peacefully
oaktown 510 lol Kobe said, “yeah it motivates me, I’m glad you got that 4th, good!” Shaq: I’m also glad I got that 4th, *wipes sweat from forehead* lmao
Me sitting here as a grown men and crying about what happened to my guy Kobe, make me realise how much he meant to me gworing up... thank u Kobe for all the memories, the inspiration to get better everyday.. It just ain't the same without u anymore..
Man this hurts so much. It's truly a blessing they sat down and mended there relationship. Your missed Kobe and thank you for the memories you graced this world with! R.I.P 🕊Kobe Bryant🕊
Thankful that we got this one on one before Kobe’s passing. Miss Kobe every single day as he was truly my hero. I live my life trying to be the way Kobe would be.
The next interview should be with Metta World Peace and the Detroit fan he beat up in the stands. Wow 4K likes I was not expecting this, thank you to everyone who gave this a thumbs up🙏.
Best part was Shaq apologizing when discussing how much it meant to him that kobe let him have the all star mvp, and realizing how much of an asshole he really was to kobe. This was a great interview !
Would Kobe have been so nice and peaceful if he hadn't 5 ? I guess but it's easier for him after all this time, cuz he got 5 and Shaq 4, which is oversaid in the last minute of the vid. Great interview
Why?…… everybody & everything is going to die eventually- DEATH IS A PART OF LIFE… some sooner than others some more tragic than others but this will happen to all… idk why people always seemed shocked like it’s not going to happen… to them too, me, & u… just the truth..
Beautifull man. You can see they have love and respect now for eachother! If he didnt apologized he would regret this the rest of his life. Respect Shaq! He must have a hard time now. 😔
Wow.. One of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. Not only in sport. Great setting, great conversation, great throwbacks. Two absolute legends talking about the most beautiful moments of this game.
No Shaq is and always been j of Kobe read between the lines Shaq starts at the very beginning telling on himself after he asked wat made him be killer mode
Best big man guard duo to ever play together. I have so much respect for both these gentlemen and don’t think there will ever be another duo to bring what both guys brought to the table.
Shaq: "I'm tired and I'm going swimming and eating burgers the young fella can do all the work".....Kobe "I'm in the gym 10hrs a day" lmao yeah I'd be pissed off too!!!! bahaha
But “shaq carried kobe” 😂 honestly if shaq listen to kobe n worked out as much or half as much as bean a lot of things would be undeniable at this point in life
@@aliyaj1018 yeah save to assume they were in the peak of their egos at the time and dark shit was being spit back n forth ..didnt need to talk about all that especially being a mainstream public broadcasting but i feel you...it wouldve been cool to hear them talk about it and forgive each other
The Rocco Cup goes to... Shaq and Kobe! Rocco's Cup is huge for both of these Lakers. NBA Finals, MVPs, All-Stars MVPs, and now Rocco's Cup. "Clearly, this is a real man thing," said God a Lakers fan since lakes were created, "by the power invested in myself, and as a favor to a friend, I hereby bless them both."
@@aliyaj1018 Exactly. The issue started when Kobe Bryant tossed a bloody shirt at a police officer and said, "Shaq..." in the middle of the summer in Colorado just before a surgery he didn't even tell his team about. Lakers screwed themselves out of Shaq's last championship and Lebron. All for two GD rings in 12 years just so Kobe could say "I got two on my own!" That's great. You could have had one just with old Shaq and then picked up Lebron in 2010 for another four. I will never for the life of me understand how LA thought they won from that deal. Old-ass Shaq 34-year-old Shaq got one just by himself. Prime Kobe heads into a 12-year span and gets 2. Okay, that's 1 more than Shaq, congratulations, but in the meantime, Kobe's contract prevented them from picking up four with Lebron lol Always baffled by all that
GOAT interview. There will never be a duo in the NBA that was as controversial, as dominant, and won as many rings as they did then split when one or both of the players were still in their primes. This was what made this interview so special. Those "what if" moments.
What a beautiful interview!!! The love and brotherly competition literally brought tears to my eyes. Rest in peace King Kobe and love to King Shaq. Just a beautiful moment that has been captured for us who love basketball 👑❤👑
Being born in the mid 80s allowed me to see different great players and glad I was able to see late 80s, 90s early 2000s basketball. Still remember Kobe's first pair of shoes, did not have the money to buy them but did save up to buy Kobe Bryant Courtside on N64. Thank you for the great performance on the court.
Its impressive because even though he grew up in Italy, he moved to America...how often do you think he got to speak that over here? If you took a foreign language in high school, how fluent are you in it now?
I miss Kobe so much even when he retired. Just his presence at a Lakers game isn’t the same for me to watch basketball with a certain feeling. When that feeling is gone the love for the game is gone, he was my idol. 🙏🏿💜
I understand where shaq is coming from. Playing over 110 games I'm gonna relax during the summer. Kobe working out 10 hours a day. Damn that's insane. That's why kobe is a goat
love these boys.. i'm from Finland and really had 3 favs..Barkley Shaq and Kobe. 2 of those are making me smile every week and one of those is making me cry everytime
I come back now and then to watch this and it always brings me joy to watch it’s like two greats acknowledging eacothers feats and coming to an understanding and are at peace with one another RIP Kobe it doesn’t feel right with you gone
When you live in LA, these 2 were all you hear about in school growing up. Watching all the games even in my 20's. Kobe was LA's icon. LA lost an icon but his death transformed the city with art. You can't drive for more then 2 miles without seeing this mans face on a side of a building. He will always be remembered.
Born and raised Angeleno. I was 8 when he won the dunk contest, 11-13 during the 3peat. My childhood hero, adult role model, hometown icon, one of Los Angeles’ favorite sons. Mamba Forever.
Dorothy Jones that is was Vanessa couldn’t let him go.. besides all his mistakes, he was a GREAT HUMAN BEING and trough the first stone who is free of faults
Shaq has been talking like he wished he could say one more thing to Kobe. But this talk had everything you could hope for between two people who had some air that needed to be cleared. Laughter Respect Admiration Friendship Love Shaq, I have no doubt that Kobe knew how you felt about him.
