This is an absolutely great video! I've looked at the chalk pounce pads and stencils, but never purchased because I wasn't sure how to use them. Now I feel more confident in trying it since watching your tutorial. You are a very good instructor. Thank you for sharing!!!

Omg, I LOVE these videos! I've had the ponce stencils for 2 years now and and just now learned through your video how to do it properly and to put the stencil properly on my quilt! Thankk you so much and I did not know about the hairspray idea. Now I will not be so frustrated and I'm trying that next!

Hairspray! That’s brilliant! I have been soooo frustrated trying to use the Full Line stencils and chalk pounce pads because the chalk jumped off as soon as I put it on and moved the quilt to my sit down machine! Going to try your hairspray hack! Love the stencils and maybe now I can use them with much less frustration! thanks!

Wow, I should be able to use these products, you have surely answered a lot of the questions I had, Love the detail and all of the great advice, You have a great presentation here. Really informative, Thanks again. I WILL try them for sure. I do most of my quilting on a sit down quilting machine, that I absolutely love, we all have to different resources, we just need a push sometimes to use them..

I wish you girls would demonstrate w a quilt w pieces in multiple colors and prints. I know this is sales, i used to do store drmos, but if you aren't showing a real situation, how can we know how it would actually look and the level of difficulty.

This is merely to help you understand how to use them and make use easier. demoing on something that is difficult to see on an actual quilt sandwich would have people complaining they can't see the lines. It's a double edge sword... maybe check the full line stencil RU-vid channel maybe they did a whole quilt demo?

Love your videos...am fairly new to quilting and finally doing quilting with stencils. Would have loved you to have used the blue or pink chalk. I have read that the blue and pink do not come out of the fabric...using that lint brush on the fabric would have been a good test. I am testing the blue or pink pounce chalk on a white test swatch of the same fabric that my quilt has before I quilt the dahlia design on my quilt. Wish me luck!

@@susanmei9980 0:15 I free motion quilted a Dalhia, the chalk does lighten as you work on the design, but honestly I can’t remember if it came completely out with water. Sorry. I have been doing edge to edge quilting by embroidery for about 3.5 years now.

I told my husband about the tips and he mentioned about he thought the hairspray will gum up the needle?? I was just at Lancaster AQS quilt show this week and saw his demonstration... thanks for share your tips.... makes more sense to me now to use it on the long arm... first time I tried was a big disaster!!! HQ RU-vid channel suggest to spray water on the fabric then apply the chalk then let it dry before long arming... but they showed doing this on the frame. What are your thoughts?
@BoldNotionQuilting
@BoldNotionQuilting 5 лет назад
The only issue would be if your fabrics could bleed or you spray too close to your machine head otherwise I think ita great. You should only use a very light mist of spray for hair spray and it doesn't gum up the needle.

Hi! As a newbie I am most appreciative for all the info...heading to your site to order some stencils...but I will use my regular machine to do this, do you recommend pouncing a section, quilt it then pounce another section....since I will have to roll my quilt to fit in the throat of the machine....I should mention too that I have never quilted before...😬
@BoldNotionQuilting
@BoldNotionQuilting 4 года назад
Yes a section at a time or the amount you plan to whilst that day and spray with some light weight hairspray to keep it all together while you move around! On my website check out the class catalog there is a 1 hour free class for tips for sitdown quilters! Sign up for that and watch it!!!

Prior to watching this video: I found my cross hatch stencil because I needed to cross hatch a project. I only had the pink and the white. I used the pink on white. My lines came out well, but faint. (did not know about hair spray). Took my small project to the long arm. Left it over night because I got dragged away from my project. When I came back to the project, my lines disappeared. So I had to wing it and did pebbling. Question: would my lines have stayed, if I used the hair spray?
@BoldNotionQuilting
@BoldNotionQuilting 5 лет назад
Yes they would have stayed better but you want to hairspray initially before you move it

Nice tips.. I need to use stencils more too. will pounce powder last for a big quilt that is floated? And, will hair spray gunk up an iron soleplate? Just questions I have. Thank you for sharing.
@BoldNotionQuilting
@BoldNotionQuilting 5 лет назад
Light hair spray no vut if you got a good gunk on there somewhere yes. And it will last the whole top. Thays why I would stick to vrushing off and then washing. Anything left after washing will disappear in the dryer

I bought these and they create the biggest mess ever. And most of the chalk will be gone before you finish sewing the design. Pounce claims the chalk won’t hurt your machine, but it does get down inside your machine around the presser foot and all over the bobbin area. I wasn’t willing to take the chance of ruining my expensive machine. It’s faster than tracing a stencil with a marker, but sooo not worth the mess.
@BoldNotionQuilting
@BoldNotionQuilting Год назад
They really aren't that messy unless you Over pounce... which is easy to do if you're trying to get alot of chalk on there. Ao gently swipe and use a bit of hairspray and most of the chalk will stay on the quilt till you wash it off. It's a learned process like anything else. You have to get down a good routine to get good results.
