Those subs are awesome, I own 2 of them I use them for live music applications along with the THUMP15A tops.Very tight, accurateand musical while also capable of excellent efficiency, I never have to run them any higher than unity which preserves a lot of their headroom. The onboard 140hz crossover is higher than I normally like to run 18" subs but it does work well in a pinch when using it with the Thump 15A. Great sub, worth every dollar.
The 18s is surprisingly light compared to say a Yorkville ls800p. I can carry it myself and it is very loud and still very accurate and musical. The best sub I've heard and I love that it's light enough for a mobile dj to handle.
I built a vented table to go over the thump, and it collects all of the bass and makes it super punchy when you stand in front. If your crowd is largely straight infant of the sub 10/10 would recommend. The directional control with the bass is beautiful when they only want it loud on the dance floor.
@gladiator1972, RCA's do not give a good signal. I use 2 18s and 2 450s, and I have to put the 450s on hi pass out, and use XLR cables. These things rock if you use a good mixer
Great video!! Thanks I'm considering purchasing these to compliment my Thump 15BSTs, I generally do weddings and a few parties. Would you suggest 1 or 2 of these?
Thanks but why dps thumps 15 shows red light within 30mins.....I use 2 18"subs and 2 15" tops Mackie Thumps.....but still it only covers a small area and when guests say about 50-60 want to dance it give up🥺🥺
I have a seismic Audio aftershock 18 inch powered subwoofer and it's max peak 1600 watts and RMS 800 (Also i'm gonna be buying one of those MackieThump 15BST on saturday
It’s a strange design. Rear facing driver firing into a large sealed chamber. The rear part of the driver faces the front and is in an open baffle smaller chamber with large shallow vents. I wouldn’t even call them ports because they are more like windows. Performance is not very loud or deep and the amplifier clips frequently. The QSC KW181 sounds like 4 of these but better.
Have a question i ordered a mackie prof12v3 12 channel with two mackie thumper 15bst boosted with two mackie thumper 18s powered subwoofer how should I set it up going to be for DJ and Karaoke. Thanks for your time
Hey guys. What sub would you recommend to pair with my JBL eon 500 series. We do live singing and backing tracks. Will use for large rooms and smaller. Wedding Parties ect ect. Lots of dance music and crooner dinner music.
Could a 60s rock n roll band use this in a pair with the matching 15a mid tops? If anyone knows or could recomend a good route to take with active speakers that would be great.. normally play to around 100 to 200 people size gigs.
These subs get a plethora of bad reviews and I'm not sure why. You just have to understand your application and your gain staging before you choose your equipment. I think many people buy these subs to fill spaces they weren't meant to, or go volumes they're not meant to. I use these for small venue gigs, 50-150 people max. and pump plenty of gain into them from my board and they are just fantastic, every time. They're not meant for much more than that, so just do your research and match to your needs accordingly.
I paired this sub with 2 Mackie thump 15s for my house parties, but I have to turn down the tops halfway in order to feel/hear the bass (I have the lows all the way up on my controller and more than halfway on the sub). What am doing wrong? I have RCA's coming out of my Pioneer SB3 going into the inputs of the sub and then out to the tops.
I assune using rca fron the controller your needing ro use an rca to xlr adapter?? This will really hurt performance in my experience. Especially as the soundcard in the sb3 isnt very powerful. Try going through a mixer, high passing your tops (just go out of the high pass output on the subs) hope this makes semse.
Yeah man only if the mixer is powered and has a dac however! I had this problem and it is a cheaper way to get round this issue. You can then eq your output properly which will balance the sound between the subs and tops
Are you powering off the sub with the switch it takes about 1 minutes sometimes for the power to drain out of the system. if you are waiting for the sub to go to sleep or Stand by like a home subwoofer, PA subs don't do that. If I missed the question please asked again.
@@expertisland i believe i messed the sub up by inputing 2 XLRs from mixer . After i used it for about an hour the clip light did not turn off. I just shipped it back today. Hoping warranty covers it
Is the Alto TS18S Sub and TS315 Better than the Mackie Thump 18S Sub & Thump 15A speakers? Thinking of purchasing and cannot decide between the two. Sub bass is important as well as overall quality. Great video by the way👌🏼
Is it normal that at max volume the box of the sub rattles? The vibration of the speakers causes the box to vibrate and making its own sound. Is it normal?
Pro tip. If you’re thinking of buying speakers, do some research and try to rent them first. Rent a few different brands. Hearing them first will make your investment sound. No pun
how low does it go and what is its cut off frequency couldn't hear it over RU-vid probably the mics couldn't pick up that frequently or my tablet or both
this is what Mackie says Frequency Range: 30Hz-132Hz (-10dB) Crossover Frequency: 140Hz Maximum Peak SPL: 130dB band-pass just sounds lower when you're next to it in an open space.
I'm looking for a set of self powered speakers that will have deep bass. Been thinking on getting a pair of the Thump 15 bst & a pair of the 18s. Will this be good enough to run a lounge for DJ?
I have this sub & thump 15s. Seen conflicting set up guides... Is it best to come out of mixer to the tops & then into the sub or from the mixer to the sub & then to the tops. I am leaning to the former. Advice?
if you play old school 70s 80s before subwoofers became part of the picture 75 to 100% (play it by ear) Newer Music after mid-90s Producers and sound engineers started pushing lower end sounds for the SUB-Woofer so keep an eye on your meters and peak LED on the Sub.
Anyone get their thump 18s to sound really good with the 12 or 15 tops? I tried a few different ways to connect and the sub is just really weak. Really weak. I had to turn up bass from my dj controller. Might trade in for more qsc brand.
That's a good question, it's too bad I don't remember. but taking it was a Subwoofer video for Mackie featuring the THUMP12A on top I probably had it on Sub-mode. for part of the video to show how they sound setup together.
That is absolutely the worst subwoofer I have ever tried. Tested indoors and outdoors. Sounded exactly like my 12 inch 300 watt. car subwoofer in both environments.
Hey just a question. Can you run one of these with 2x Mackie Thump Boosted 15s in bluetooth mode wirelessly? Or will you have to connect the sub to the speakers?
Demoing a 600 watt sub using a built in camera mic & a lapel mic is useless, because the mics don't have any applicable frequency response. No need to bother unless you use a large diaphragm mic with appropriate frequency response. This is useless.
Great question - I broke Rule #1 with product videos (Never say the price in the video), this video is from 2018 and the price has gone up twice. that's why I put the link for up to date price. thanks for the comment.
