Man, the way Rock just sprints to the ring and they go at it without wasting a second. It's the little things like these that make a match or a feud feel more heated. I'll be honest I was like maybe 3 years old when this match happened so this is my first time actually watching it properly, but every time I watch older matches or feuds, I can't help but notice these tiny details in the storytelling that they used to mix in that make it so much more immersive, and I feel like a lot of that is completely overlooked today, even though I do enjoy the current era as well. Just an observation.
You are 100% right. The energy is missing in the current product. The sense of unpredictability, as well. Because there is less emphasis on making it feel “real” or like true “competition”. Instead, everything seems overly choreographed and produced. And now at ‘media scrums’, everyone can’t wait to talk about how fake everything is.
@@Wicked_RotF30 I'm like 25 lol :c I see people who say The Shield was their childhood these days and that sorta blows my mind and makes me feel incredibly old..
It's cool you went back and watched this. I was 13 when this happened, so I experienced as it happened. You could definitely feel the WWE was searching for a new top star. The transition from Attitude Era to Ruthless Aggression was a downgrade in my opinion, but at least we can all agree 1st run Brock was amazing.
Kids these days will never know how amazing WWE used to be the 90s and early 2000s were it's best years. This was one of the most extraordinary matches in history
The way The Rock was selling Brock’s moves...especially the F5, the way The Rock was showing emotion when the crowd booed him, and he was super amped up for this match, and he put over Brock clean. That’s how you do it.
@Misguided Angel what he meant was that even if Heyman interfered, Rock still handled it, after he did the rock bottom to heyman it was a fair fight Brock didn't even recover. The rest were full of reversals
@Misguided Angel It was clean because The rock took out Heyman with a rock btm at the announce table, Lesnar won on his own when he overpowered the rock btm and reverse it into an F5.
Fun fact: Lesnar was originally planned to win with help from Heyman in typical heel fashion, but Rock thought I’d be best for him to lose clean to give Lesnar the most momentum possible and start his time as a main eventer properly. Just another example why Dwayne is one of best and most professional wrestlers of all time.
I remember this and although he was my favorite wrestler at the time, you could tell he was on his way out. Besides if you watch closely he was kinda the heel in this match, it kinda shifted midway through the match and he started playing the heel.
Yeah I still think at times anytime I try watching a main event on peacock, these guys wouldn’t have even made the raw roster the late 90s and early 00s. Ik some was being a young kid, but they had superstars all through those years looking back. I watched through 07 when Shawn Michaels was wrestling still, but it was falling off. 04-06 Smackdown was good.
The Rock's entrance at 1:00 really is electrifying. There's no other way to describe it. I'm not even a Rock fan like that, but the way he walks out with the crowd erupting and then he lays the Belt at the very top of the Entrance Ramp like: "Yeah, I'm The Champ! What are you gonna do about it!?" only for Brock to be big asf and have a dangerous-looking smile, and then Rock responds by fully sprinting the whole way. Just chef's kiss. Everything about it is perfect. This is one of my all-time favourite beginnings to any Match in any promotion. You can only dream of the very start of the Match being so engaging, but this was, and it's *SO* sick.
1:26 Start Match 2:26 Cheap shot by Paul Heyman 3:51 second cheap shot 4:08 third cheap shot 4:33 Brock Lesnar Powerslam 5:54 Double rise 6:39 The Rock attack Paul Heyman 6:53 Sharpshooter 7:55 Second The Rock attack Paul Heyman 8:25 Brock Lesnar chair attack 13:12 The Rock pushes Brock Lesnar into the ring stance 13:34 Rock Bottom on announcer table 14:42 Rock bottom on Brock Lesnar 15:23 Rock Bottom on the Rock 16:22 Spinebuster by The Rock 17:02 F-5
never forget that Brock Lesnar could do a shooting star slam.... yes, that mountain of a man could stand on the top rope, and jump forward while doing a freaking backflip
Rock was something else man. I grew up watching wrestling in the 80’s but Rock might be my all-time favorite. In my opinion, he’s the best at selling it all. Win lose or draw, this guy did it right
@@jlruiz7634 I loved Hbk overselling. He did a head stand in one. He's nuts. Hbk had the better matches. First ladder match, first hell in the cell, casket match. Rock is definitely in the tops. Wish those two wrestled each other. Vince McMahon could oversell like crazy.
@@jeanclaudevandamme3361 I don't think you really understand the wrestling business a good wrestler or a good performer in the ring or a good wrestler out of the ring on the mic who won the most is a scripte think he maybe the most dominating but that's also not true go Goldberg in his prime was more dominating
I don't think people realise how strong Brock is. That's literally a 265 pound man he is lifting up and crunching over one knee and lifting back up with ease with one leg getting back up. The man was tossing THE ROCK around like a cruiserweight.
Well Brock Lesnar was the UFC heavyweight champion for a few seconds. He smashed like Khabib did. If he would have focused all his energy and time traninng for the UFC in his early 20's. Imagine what he could have achived 😄
@jostrander71 for sure. Think everyone knows Brock isn't weak and he's strong. But I think alot of people actually don't realise just HOW strong he is when he makes it look so easy
I always remember that clip of Lesnar picking a ref up off the floor by his belt with one hand and shoving him back into the ring like he was just picking up groceries.
They boo’d rock because they knew he was leaving again for Hollywood and they were hurt, however this was a great catalyst because we got “Hollywood” Rock and it was a great shift for him.
Jr said it at the time the people felt betrayed by the people's champ .. this is how much the fans loved and cared for the rock they took it very seriously
The seeds for Rock’s heel turn were being planted subtly throughout this match. Pay attention to his reactions when the crowd cheers for Lesnar and boos him. For all his charisma, Rock’s in-ring psychology is underrated.
It was actually not planted or written ahead of time. the thing is that fans started booing The Rock little by little, his popularity was dipping. mainly because fans knew that he was leaving to make another movie. The Rock spoke about the situation, it made him feel a certain type of way so when he came back; he decided to come back as a heel.
Well, yes. There's a reason he made it to the top, both in wrestling and Hollywood. The guy is charismastic af, and looking back now he was great on the mic and in the ring
In my opinion, this was one of the greatest SummerSlam matches in history, at what I consider the greatest SummerSlam PPV in history. These two worked so well together. It's mind blowing how good they were whenever they stepped foot in the same ring. Chemistry at its finest.
Too bad this was their only televised one on one match. They also had a triple threat match earlier that month for the title with HHH. Brock took what was suppose to be Hogan's spot. Obviously The Rock won by pinning HHH. They also faced off in a 2003 house show in Miami, Florida right before WrestleMania 19 where The Rock won by the Rock Bottom.
@@HelloRU-vid89 Course because of Goldberg was able to do it John Cena was able to do it triple h was able to do it Undertaker was able to do it at this stage in their career then the rock can do it
The Rock’s Nip up was so clean tho! Flat on his back and only used his momentum in his legs to launch him up! Brock had his knees up and had to put his right arm down to help him lift him up! The Rock is the more Agile/Athletic Superstar while Brock is Power/Strength Superstar! Respect to Both Men but The Rock is the G.O.A.T
Whether you like him or not...The Rock was the ultimate professional wrestler. His combination of in-ring and out of ring showmanship, and the ability to always give top effort in big matches was priceless. To me no other wrestler has done it better since! Great match!
kkovots to be fair he got cheered massively during that entire 2003 heel run, just because he was so entertaining it was impossible to actually hate him 😂
When you take into account that Brock is only 24 years old here.. what a beast of an athlete, actor and overall performer he was already. And that F-5 at the end.. PERFECT. One of the most beautifully executed if not the most beautifully executed F-5 ever. Thanks in part to the Rock for how he sold that move!!!
An epic match plus the energy from the crowd. The ending sequence was so well done. I remember watching this as a kid, and the undisputed title is one of the best looking belts. I miss it.

bcz today's nxt star's were tptally midget's or if you think that why wwe not making adam cole wwe champ so adam cole and whole wwe universe can't even touch lesnar's level and his physic......today's new star's were look like girl's physic only keith lee or lars sullivan were dominating wrestlers that comes from nxt to main roster..........otherwise nxt=midgets like adam cole................adam cole=smaller than sasha banks
ABDUL MOAIZ bro the whole things make belief if a character gets over why wouldn’t you push them wwe is literally screwing them self outta making more money by burying its own Talent
@@Bmx427 you are right but every single new talent that coming in performance centre is very small and there's no more wrestler's like lesnar, goldberg and taker.............but thank's to wwe to make fiend a great character that induct bray in hof in future.....
@DailyFootballVlogs123 yes all new talent is suck and midget's there's no more wrestler's like kane, lesnar, taker, bigshow and goldberg............but drew mcintyre and lashley is still great talent in wwe
How can people boo the Rock in this match. Even though he would left WWE after this, it’s not right to boo one of the superstars who made the Attitude Era.
@@apriyadi9470 thank you! Literally mentioned their fight at Summerslam '98 on another comment. That was a match for the ages. Rock & Lesnar put on a brilliant show though - and it was Lesnar's crowning moment after his 5 month reign of terror as "the next big thing" that he was just 24 here is astonishing.
I was 9 . Damn still remember that day. Watched it with my dad. Bonded with him very well those years. Little did we know those would be the good old days looking back
Fun fact: this is the first time in years that i’ve watched a full wrestling match and i’ve been more entertained and excited than I am with matches now
This match was hella intense from start to finish.. Just reversals, attitude, cheap shots, mayhem, intensity, craziness and a battle for the belt. But the rock always puts everything out there, like few of the greats before him. Which is why he's so popular and well known.
@@ssss-yr2mi I think he helped the crowd detach from him when he cheap-shotted Lesnar in the groin when the ref wasn't' looking and then made evil faces. At 11:10 Heyman gets on the apron on cue. That low blow gave the crowd permission to boo. Otherwise, why as a babyface would he go for the cheap shot?
This is one of my favourite EVER matches. Absolutely electric. Rock in his prime. Brock is 23/24. Built like a house. The power and agility. Heyman at his best. Tazz and Cole with awesome commentary. The action is frenetic, the crowd is loud. This is WWE/WWF at its best. I absolutely love this.
Agreed 100%. This is one of my favorite matches of all time as well. Might not be as talked about as some others, but I personally think this is pro wrestling at it's finest.
13:13 Brock over did the"collision to the ringpost" he was so far from the post he should just have passed it by😂😂. Thumbs up for THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE, tt guy knows his job
If anyone says Brock Lesnar sucks, I'll show them this video to prove them wrong. In all seriousness though, Lesnar was undeniably one of WWE's greatest and most agile big men in history. His matches in the early/mid 2000's were absolutely phenomenal. Dude was a real freakin beast, and still is. One thing I know is that when Lesnar is invested, he delivers. He's an incredible seller as well. It doesn't matter to me if he has "stopped being as good as he used to be" (notice the quotation marks). He's always been an overall great worker to me.
Among all the great things he did, he saved the Rock's spot where he catapults Lesnar from the floor up to hit his head on the ring post. Rock lined it up way off, and Lesnar had to get over to the post on the launch. He made it look okay though. 13:09
Original idea for wm30’s main event was Brock vs Rock so if that actually happened the streak would have been longer because Undertaker wouldn’t have lost to Lesnar.🤷♂️
