Wakefield ARL UNISON Presidents Cup
Sharlston Rovers lift the UNISON presidents cup for the fifth successive year, a record only to be bettered by Brookhouse on a seven year stint.
A superb opening put Rovers in the driving seat throughout as 4 minutes in a Dale Potter break but Rovers deep in the All Blacks half, where Kevin Dickens did the damage puncturing the defence to cross under the sticks, Matty Bell adding the goal.
6 minutes later Rovers improved the lead when BARLA international Lee Maskill dummied his way into open space attacking up the incline.
A quick penalty goal soon after put Rovers 12-0 in front but almost immediately Crigglestone hit back with a score out on touch side, Tom Andrews finishing off a slick handling move. Tommy Malyan added the almost impossible goal, but that was to be the All Blacks only points.
A quick fire double attack saw Maskill cross for his second and Gareth Davies showed why he is the top try scorers with 35 tries this season with superb score with Bell converting both and converting a penalty attempt on the stroke of half time, to see Rovers 26-4 clear going into the interval.
The hold Rovers had on the game began to show as they played some expansive rugby and as the breaks came all over the field Rovers added another score whitj UNISON man-of-the-match Lee Bettison darting in for a score.
Wingman James Byrom came in for a piece of the action showing deceptive strength to go through a mountain of defenders, Bell added the goal. Again Gareth Davies caused problems for the defence with his mesmerising footwork that put him over the whitewash to complete his brace.
Hard working prop Andy Booth improved the tally past the 40 mark whilst barrelling through the defence and just at the last minute of the game Lee Maskill intercepted one of the only visits of Crigglestone into the Rovers half to race the length of the field to complete a well deserved hat trick, Dale Potter added the last goal to boost the score to half century mark.
