FMA is all about guilt vs acceptance. Edward and Alfons embody this relationship, with Edward feeling responsible for what happened to both of them, and Alfons wanting Edward to simply accept their fate, because at the end of the day their brotherhood is everything. The artwork in the book do a great job of capturing this.
