Full Metal Casio G-Shock Mod: Better than the real thing?: Review 

Had to watch this as soon as it popped up in my feed! The quality of the mod kit really looks a step up from what I would expect, it’s a tough call for sure

I have a DW 5600 that I coated in matt black steel with old patina, after three years there is no scratch, it looks fantastic at a much lower price.

Gotta give it to the DW5600, the battery lasts for forever. I grabbed one in 2010 and just had to replace the battery a month ago in 2024. But, it’s one of several dailies for me so I’m not constantly messing with it.

Nearly 120 usd for modded Casio was a good deal enough for me. I'd say the bracelet is much better than any model in G-shock. A very satisfying and classy mod i've bought so far. Despite being not a fan of G-Shock i bought it.

I have the 5600 with atomic time keeping and Solar. I do plan to get a mod kit. I don’t feel the full steel is worth the 500+ dollars . That’s just my opinion

I know it's late but I have the mod kit on my 5600 bb. It was my work watch that got an upgrade. Truly to this day I always get complements about the watch.

$300-350 max, the watch is nice but the mod is just as great for a lower price. These watches are going for $550 right now.

The display quality of the og alone is worth it. The jinglyness of the bracelet comes from all the tiny springbars, instead of push pins. Doesn't matter imo and makes resizing a breeze.

I did mine with distressed steel, strap and case and looks and feels amazing now.. Predator style :))

The original full-metal G is not worth its money. Modded mine the same way you did and couldn't be happier

I have the original.it is definitely worth the price tag.although the metal case and bracelet isnt perfect,it is special.using the buttons is a joy.my biggest complain is it isnt scratch resistant enough.

you can actually set the light to stay on for 4 seconds. Just adjust it in the app.

You can adjust the time on back light to 4 seconds via Bluetooth

4:03 this is the best part of this watch. Polished horizontal surfaces of the bezel makes it flashy but not too much because of brushed the rest of the watch. All satine finnish would look simple but all polished would make the watch .... cheesy tinsel.

Nice video, I have the legit Silver Full Metal and have since modded a gun metal and a gold version from two other G Shocks, I love all three, but I can definately tell when I'm wearing the real deal, it's heavier, sits differently on the wrist and is just really satisfying to wear. My mods are great, but you can't beat the feeling of wearing the original, it just feels better.

I have the M5610U in an aliexpress metal-case/bracelet, absolutely stunning watch, worth every cent.

I own two of the full steel models, the silver and the black. I like them a lot, they are built like tanks and wear very well on my wrist. The non-articulating first links are actually very nice, as they keep the watch nicely centred on the wrist. The bracelet has some flex, but I wouldn’t call it jingly jangly. The flex contributes to the comfortable wear. Lastly the price: I wouldn’t have paid 500€ for my silver and 550€ for my black version. Look around and you can get them at a discount or you could go secondhand as I did. The silver one came from a Dutch guy, paid 266€, and it was absolutely perfect, the bracelet had been sized but the head of the watch and the clasp were still covered in the protective film. Basically a brand new watch. I picked up my black one locally for 200€, it has some wear and tear, but no deep scuffs or scratches. Brilliant watches.

With the real deal you can adjust the backlight time.

I did the same mod to mine and wore it for a year. Then I was able to by the real deal for a good price and there is nothing like having the real one

the mod kit designers copied the flaws from the original full metal casio with regards to the non-moving 1st link. fortunately I have 7.5" wrist so it's completely acceptable for me.

You can put of course other GW5600 models with solar and Bluetoothand so on in the mod case.. So its definitely worth for me

I have a gw5000u. I prefer the resin strap and bezel. Adding a steel bezel and bracelet would make it too heavy for my tastes.

I have the 5610 with the MFG kit so has most of the full steel's features just with the red line around the screen as for wrist time it's a fight between my faux full steel G and my black and gold SKXMOD full steel AE-1200! 😉👌

I have both the B5000 and the 5610. Even though I love the look of the full steel one, the 5610 is much more comfortable. As the endlinks of the B5000 stick out and make the watch wear larger than a resin one. And of course the weight is more. So I found myself wearing the resin 5610 more and more.

I dont know.... I do the same to my swatch irony put a metal strap on it some years after i regret it and turn it back were it belongs the cocodrille leather (black) strap again.

Thanks mate! I got the GWB5600HR (with bluetooth) for around 50 bucks second hand. With the mod that makes it about 100 total with all the options of the "FULL" metal including the icy blue fade in fade out. Still i was considering the real deal, i think you just convinced me to keep the extra 500 euros in the pocket.

Isn't there a 4 second option on the display on the full metal? Maybe only on the U...

Great video. I'm thinking about using the G5600 solar for the mod. The only thing I'm not sure about is the smaller buttons on the the mod, but at a $500 saving, may be learn to live with

I know I’m in the minority here, but I threw down $500 on the full steel. Is it worth it? I hate to sound like a snob, but it is for me. The muted colors and brick pattern on the solar panels are small details, but aesthetically, they are huge to me. The screw down caseback on a stainless steel case also make it feel like a “proper” watch. OK, now I sound (and feel) like a snob.

The rose gold version down to £250 in UK do u think it's worth buying at that price?

I would pick the DW-B 5600, Not the basic 5600

It is not worth it because the original all metal g-shock has a metal case & a screw in case back.. the moded dw-5600e has a plastic resin case which will become brittle & will break after a few years & the gasket inside the case back has an awkward shape that you can only get from g-shock retailer & hard to purchase & also the platic resin case will not hold up the screws that holds the case back after you change the battery it will eventually become loose thread & will never be water resistant anymore... It more like a disposable beater watch.. But the all metal will last more than your lifetime.. Just like the vintage original father of all g-shock the dw5000 the all metal g-shock is built like a tank & it is the REAL G-SHOCK... the plastic cased g-shock is like a toy disposable version of the real g-shock..

This logic is like: Buying a Honda Civic DX then putting a V-Tec logo on the back of the trunk and AutoZone APC air filter and calling it a race car. Buying a made in Thailand Gshock is like buying a Dodge Neon, and buying a Made in Japan MR-G is like buying a Mercedes AMG.

Short answer, yes. Only if you’re gonna wear it daily and it will be exposed to light most of the time since it’s battery solar charged won’t keep it’s battery for long

So I really enjoyed this video, however I cannot agree with promoting “g shock” labelled mod kits. If it was sterile then yes, but you are effectively advocating a fake watch. I’m not sure you would do the same for Rolex or Omega?
