I get annoyed when I see unqualified people parked in disabled parking spots. Having said that, nobody would end up dead because of my feelings of annoyance.
I agree. But it works both ways... I discovered a new mall some time ago and EVERY single spot right in front of the shops is a disabled spot... I know for a fact that there are not that many disabled people in town all together. I have never seen a SINGLE wheel chair user in the entire business park. So I actually think it can be a statement to park in those spots as an able bodied person and that would not take away a spot from a person in need because there are like 150 too many of them... Just to stimulate the brains of the mall developers a little bit.
The defense clawing at anything, while understandable given their jobs, made my skin crawl with disgust and anger. The statements by the family, and judge, were potent.

I watched the sentencing. The judge gave an excellent detailed step by step explanation of this incident and why it was not self defense. The judge also brought up previous incidents provoked by Drejka. Drejka was a wanna-be cop who appointed himself lot monitor of the convenience store parking lot. The store owner had told Drejka about confronting people for using the H/C parking space, saying something along the lines of "it's not worth it. You're going to run into the wrong person one day." Reportedly Drejka replied, "That's why I carry." The judge also noted how ironic it was that when Drejka drove into the lot to confront the woman parked in the H/C space, he himself parked illegally. Supposedly Drejka would sit in his car across the street and watch the H/C space. When someone without a H/C placard or plate parked in the H/C space he would drive into the lot kinda Starsky & Hutch style to confront them. I don't know what kind of car he drove, but I'd bet money it was a Crown Vic. Drejka had inherited a lot of money from his mother and was retired since his early 40's. This is how he chose to spend his time. He will now reportedly spend his time in prison being a hall monitor asking to see other inmates hall passes. Bad shoot/good verdict.
He don’t want to try to be hall monitor in prison. It won’t end well for him. Got a feeling the Aryan Brotherhood is going to take him under his with though. Won’t make much of s difference though. Due to our justice system being unfair/unbalanced to one particular group of people he will be greatly outnumbered

The prosecutor nailed it on the head when he said “he put himself in the position to be able to use his gun” On another note I believe cops that jump in front of cars and then fire their weapons using fear as a defense should be prosecuted under the same reasoning!
If a cop has a dangerous or violent criminal in a car, and then steps in front of the car to access that option, I have absolutely no problem with it. No innocent person has ever purposefully tried to run over a cop, regardless of whether the cop put himself there or not. Trying to run one or more over = you forfeited life.
It does mean something. But its got to be genuine. You usually dont see that during interrogation/after. Or in court and surely not in prison. Its a sign of weakness to many and if there is one thing you dont want to do in these situations, its fall apart by feeling the consequences. Indeed Marsha, everyone incarcerated is remorsefull. At least for themselves. But in some way it is all about the self. So whats it really mean? Not that much.

I really appreciated what the prosecutor had to say. It seemed very sincere and heartfelt. I live in Hillsborough County, one county to the east of where this case took place, and I remember exactly when this happened. I believed that the defendant was in the wrong from the very beginning. I actually worked with a woman who would "police/monitor" 2 handicap parking spaces that were right in front of the store where we worked. I would get so upset with her because you just never know how people are going to react to being confronted and reprimanded by some random stranger not minding their own business! When this happened, I brought it up and begged her to stop, if for no other reason than she was putting my own safety at risk because of the close proximity. I hope and pray that this family experiences peace that passes all understanding. 🙏💔🙏
Your attitude is a huge part of the problem. The fact that someone is so self centered and self absorbed that they believe they have the right to violate the law and then be upset with a citizen that asks them not to. This is part of the problem with cosset and especially those under 35 years old today. Self absorbed and self centered and self aggrandizing. IF there was a problem then the police should have been using the CTV to send $200 citations to each violator. As many cops and pass that corner per day they could receive about 4 to 8 times their salary even today just from citing that one parking space. Now for my take. I watched every video many times. I noted that the wife or gf exited the vehicle and confronted the defendant the moment she saw her "man" exit the store. She escalated this, and as you can see from the video Drejka had actually walked back away from her. If you look closely she got in is face the moment she knew her man was there, in order to conflagration the problem itself. Her escalation made her man react in extreme physical violence. The blindside hit of Drejka lifted him into the air and threw him almost 14 feet. Had he been a police officer this would have certainly been a good shoot, period. Had I been the Sheriff, she would have been arrested as well. She committed a crime (unlawful parking which is an infraction) however that infraction and her escalation lead to the violence which lead to the death. She is the actual culpable party. The problem is that today she is feeling vindicated by the action of society to ignore her action and her reaction and her escalation.

When I was 21 I bought a beretta 9mm. I felt a sense of empowerment. I thought of all the "good" I could do...stop a robbery, save some ones life, be a hero etc.. Then my dad sat me down and we had a long talk. 20 years later I had that same talk with my brother in law who carried a .45 every day. We don't carry our guns anymore except on very rare occasion. Think about it. .. Killing someone is a hell of a thing. You will have to live with it your whole life. You will think about it every morning you wake up. The chance of you having a accident with the gun are far greater than actually using it in a self defense situation. Leave it for the police. They are the heros. (most) They earn that title every day. Most shootings are about revelry...because some ones butt hurt. You might win in the moment and take their life however you will lose your life in the process, if not justified. The fact that this guy was a wanna be cop and he was 47 years old tells me he never grew up. He got what he deserved. Very sad for everyone involved.
People think in there mind that if Michael Drejka doesn't get involved in parking violations that he is turning a blind eye NOT true as an armed citizen the only thing that Michael Drejka had to do is report the parking violation to the Police and let them handle it by Drejka reporting it to the Police your are not turning a blind eye because you already reported to the Police. However Michael Drejka decided that it was his duties to approach people in parking lots to enforce State laws and this is what the instructors who teaches in the CCW class don't want you to do. The only thing they want you to do is if you see something just be a good witness get a good description of the vehicle plate number and reported to the Police because they want you to try to avoid any conflict at all cost in other words don't look for problems let the problem come to you.
There are an alarming number of people out there who have the same attitude and mindset of Michael Drejka, in that they seek out opportunities to use a firearm they are legally or illegally carrying. I will have to say that I never watched the Rittenhouse trial, so I cannot speak of Rittenhouse's mindset and I don't know enough about the circumstances of that particular case to make an honest judgement as to whether or not he should have been convicted. The only reason i'm bringing Rittenhouse up is because I have a friend of mine who is a supporter of Rittenhouse that said to me "he is a good boy. He even wanted to be a cop". It doesn't make someone a good person or make them worthy of carrying a firearm just because they want to be a cop. There are many people out there who want to be cops, but it doesn't mean they should be granted the opportunity to be a cop or entrusted by the public to carry a firearm. People talk constantly about the right to carry a firearm and how it is a right granted to all U. S. citizens under the constitution. I am a believer in a right to bear arms, but also believe with that right there comes responsibility. It appears Michael Drejka believed in his right to carry, but ignored the responsibility that came with that right.
If you believe someone is breaking the law, call the police. Vigilante and guns...often a terrible outcome. It’s awful for this family to loose a loved one in this manner. Drejka deserves the maximum sentence. Don’t worry there is no AC in Florida prisons....

Then the judge lets them go and they're out drinking at a bar the next weekend. Everybody makes mistakes. But some people don't learn from their's. This is a guy who was constantly picking fights with people and just itching to shoot his gun. Go down to the firing range if you want to fire your weapon! He would not go around speaking about firearm safety if he were released; he'd go shoot someone else. He said so. He said he'd do it again. He’s one of those people that can’t and him having a gun was his reason for interjecting himself in the situation. Many people like him get a cwp for the ability to have a justifiable killing.
You are so right. People should always mind their own business. One should NOT under any circumstances try to stop a drunk driving a car. One should NEVER try to stop someone kidnapping a child. They should DEFINITELY not point out that a physically handicapped person might need their spaces. Decent people should NOT call an ambulance if you are bleeding to death in the gutter after being knifed. There are too many people like you in this world. The guy should not have shot that person but he was certainly justified in merely asking that arrogant, entitled woman not to be so selfishness.
He shot that guy because his manhood was hurt by being pushed. And the man that died was just protecting his family , the whole situation is sad and should of never happened
The truth is that the man who was killed had no right to blind side the defendant like that. It was a cowardly sneak attack in the face of a petty verbal argument over a stupid parking spot. That guy wasn't protecting his family... because his family was in no danger. He shoved the guy when he wasn't looking and that was uncalled for. It was an assault. At that point the defendant should have called the police and told them he had just been physically assaulted and the man who died would have lived. The man who died might have even been found guilty of assault and done some time for that charge. With that being said... The defendant did have a right to pull his weapon in self defense because he was violently assaulted when he wasn't looking. Under the circumstances we will never know if the guy who died would have followed up with more violence against the defendant. A reasonable argument can be made that drawing his weapon was justifiable because he was in fear of receiving serious bodily injury at least. But when the man who died took three steps back (which is what we see on the video) the defendant had absolutely no right to fire his weapon... He murdered that man because there was no threat to him after the man who shoved him stepped back when he saw the gun pointed at him. At that point the gun had done the job that a CCW Permit is intended to do. It equalized a violent situation and it stopped the threat completely. At that point if I was the man with the gun I would have got in my car and called the police and reported being assaulted. The defendant/murderer deserves the 20 years. Perhaps it should have been more but that is up to the court to decide. If it were me and I was carrying a gun (or not) I wouldn't have even blinked twice at a person parked in a handicapped space with no placard. That's none of my business. Carrying a gun is a serious responsibility so you have a moral obligation (as well as a legal one) to do everything you can to stay out of confrontational situations like that. A concealed weapon carrier should never be the primary aggressor. You're just asking for jail-time if you fire your weapon in a situation when your life is clearly NOT in danger. In the beginning the man who died was the primary aggressor... But that changed as soon as the defendant pulled his weapon and the man clearly took three steps back. The man who died had no right to push the defendant like that. It was a chicken shiite thing to do... blindsiding him like a punk. But that is not a reason to shoot him... That is NOT A REASON to kill him. If you pull the trigger of a gun you have to assume that you are going to kill your target. That man didn't deserve to die that day. When you're carrying a firearm under a CCW permit you have a duty to not be an aggressive lunatic. But this defendant who is now a murderer was acting like an ass the moment he started getting involved with a woman who was parked in a handicapped spot. The man who died lost his life in a terrible tragedy. It was such a waste of a life. The 20 year sentence for murder is not a tragedy. It is justifiable. It sickens me to think that the man died like that in front of his wife and children. :-I
@@____5646 I would ask what's going on and maybe tell the white guy to fuck off. I wouldn't shove him hard to the ground. If the white guy just called the cops instead of shooting him, the black guy would be the one serving time in jail for assault and battery.
I can't believe this guy wasn't even going to the store at that moment: he was just passing by, as we can see on the video ! So, if the car did have a disability plate or placard, what would he have said to the driver? "Sorry, I just wanted to make sure that you were allowed to park here ?"....
OMG the judge put it so well " wannabe law enforcement of the handicap parking spot at the convenience store" also noted that it isn't even a really ideal parking space...
Mixed Berry Right! And the fact that the judge pointed out that he himself had parked illegally. To confront someone else for being parked illegally. Absolutely loved this judge.
HIs VERBAL argument with Jacobs had nothing to do with Mcglocton's PHYSICAL attack on Drejka. You think if the judge had been in an argument with someone in a parkinglot and that person's baby daddy came out and decked him he would be conflating the two separate incidents ? This was about race hustling, gun grabbing, and other politics. It was clearly a justified shooting. Had he not shot Mcglockton would have likely attakced for a third time and finished Drejka off.
@@Thinks-First Well, you are right that the other man attacked him and was the first to escalate the fight. It is entirely possible he would still be alive if he didn't push Drejka. But in the video it's pretty clear that the other man was backing away from Drejka after he pulled out his gun, at which point the gun really did not need to be fired... Also, and I hate to be pedantic, I don't think he decked him, if that means punching him... he was pushed, and fell to the ground. I don't think the violence there was justified either necessarily, but I also think that Drejka was just trying to pick a fight in the first place. He got what he wanted and he ended up killing a man, in my opinion, even though he may have thought that he wan't doing anything wrong (i.e. he thought it was a good thing for him to do). Let's also not forget that he had 3 or 4 previous incidents of road rage where he waved a gun at the other drivers and brake-checked a woman leading to a collision.
@@chrisdouthat162 I get all your points, Chris, but you have to watch the entire trial to understand what actually happened. I believed as you did right after watching the video. However, after watching the Sheriff interview and the entire trial I had to change my mind. Any rational person must. At trial it became clear that the only route to exoneration for Drejka was whether Mcglockton RETREATED at the sight of the gun and not just stopped his advance. Watch the video again. When he pulls the gun Jacobs and the bystander INSTANTLY retreat as human nature would dictate. You and I would do the same. However, notice that Mcglockton does NOT retreat. According to expert testimony (that went unchallenged by the prosecution) Mcglockton "bladed" instead of retreating. Yes, he turned his foot out but NOT to retreat, only to "blade". This meant by definition that he was NOT retreating. The reason this is significant is because by not retreating Mcglockton was still within striking distance of Drejka. And since he had already attacked Drejka TWICE, Drejka had every right and good faith reason not to wait for attack #3 fearing loss of life or limb.. Unfortunately the jury disregarded the successful defense his experts testified to, and the judge failed to throw out the verdict as he should have. No doubt for political reasons. As for Drejka's prior gun brandishings and road rage, they are immaterial at trial. He was never arrested nor was his gun confiscated so these incidents are not indicative of any pre-murderous behavior. Let's not forget that he never shot anyone either. Drejka may be a self annointed hall monitor, but his argument with Jacobs had nothing to do with his justified self defense by Mcglockton. By the way, did you know Mcglockton was on drugs at the time of his attack on Drejka. You have to watch the trial to learn important details like that.
Once he gets to his permanent house ( cell), you better believe, he WILL be dealt with. As a former RN who worked in prison, I've seen enough men shanked in prison justice.!!
Judge gave an excellent detailed account of the defendants background, history, mindset and the crime he engaged in that day. Such a fool throwing his life away over something that was not his responsibility or duty to enforce. And yes, some people should not have access to any firearms whatsoever.
Refreshing to see a judge get everything so right in his evaluation of the events leading to Marquis’s death. He hit the nail right on the head with everything he said about this scumbag. Wish more judges were like this guy
@@sonjaheck3156 Agree with you on the 30 years a 100% But the judge did mention the mitigation thing so it was going to be less than 30. 25 would have been good but let me put it to you this way, I didn't feel cheated when I heard the 20 years. I've been sick and tired of guys walking or doing short time because they're either in a position of power and/or have a lot of money for lawyers that can spin anything. Turns out Drejka didn't have any of that. In fact I thougt his lawyer came off looking pretty inept. If I was Michael drejka's lawyer I would have filed for a mistrial based on my own ineptness! (Sorry evidently I couldn't help that.) Anyway I think the judge did a pretty good job for the family by putting Drejka in his place by calling him a wannabe cop, a superhero, a handicap parking lot monitor and a bunch of other stuff. He made him look like a fool really and he deserved it. Also he did a wonderful job describing the tragedy of how Markies died in front of his young son, little Markies. That was a very emotional and descriptive picture he painted right there. I think the family appreciated that very much and it had to bring a sense of not only appreciation but satisfaction also. I hope I'm not wrong but I would like to think the family left the courtroom fairly satisfied with the sentencing and that the judge was a fair man. But you're right 30 would have been better but 20 is still a pretty big chunk. Peace to you sonja
@@mhern57 I totally understand your point. I did like how the judge called him out on the whole wannabee cop part. His lawyers behaved despicably, making it seem as if the VICTIM was at fault.
This whole event It’s almost unbelievable! It is so evident that this guy, on a regular basis, enjoyed being intentionally confrontational to people who park where he wants to park or where he doesn’t like them to park. With this in mind, what do you think he had in mind by carry a weapon with his own intention of causing confrontation on a regular basis. Appearance tells me that the situation was exactly what Defendant had in mind all along.
17:09 Yikes! I can't even believe what I'm hearing. So this lawyer thinks that if you pull a gun you're legally obligated to fire it? WTF?! He actually stated the "training rule" correctly, but then contradicted it. The rule is don't draw your firearm unless you're PREPARED to use it and don't point at anything you're not WILLING to shoot. That doesn't mean you HAVE to do so. smh...
Should have gotten the maximum 30 years. Anyone reading this who is from that area... PLEASE park in the handicap space, take a photo of it, and mail it to this guy. I'm sure he'll appreciate it.
Scott Lindrum yes and to bring up racism from the beginning of this case was a load of crap. Racism isn’t the cause of every death of a young black man in America. It sure makes the media and people like Sharpton and Jackson a lot of money and coverage.
Scott Lindrum there was no way he was going to get a fair trial as well. The jurors, lawyers and judge were afraid of the repercussions of a not guilty verdict.
No winners in this case. Two families destroyed because of a self appointed parking spot monitor who appeared to be looking for a confrontation. Pretty sad.
Your silly metaphor only applies to certain sick people. Carpenters and house builders couldn't build the house and luxuries YOU'RE enjoying without hammers! The point is- the hammer (or gun) did nothing except what it was designed to do, without fault or crime. The killers are not firearms, but deranged PEOPLE using these tools wrongly. I would never harm anyone but I lawfully own self-defense firearms. I seriously hope I NEVER have to use one, and avoid all conflict. Quite the opposite of "looking for nails" to hammer. I could kill a man with my bare hands, but have never been tempted to do so. Can a gun transform me into a cold-blooded killer!? Law-biding citizens own these because we value the sanctity of life, NOT as an excuse to extinguish it! By your comment, it seems you're against our second amendment. Please consider where there is liberty for lawful citizens to own guns, crime is lower. Heavy gun control places have the highest crime. The world is safer when life-cherishing people own these effective tools. If you think 'having a hammer' 'makes everything look like a nail', then do the world a favor and never buy a gun! I own hammers as useful tools, but they have never changed the condition of my mental health into some destructive psychopath! I also own multiple motor vehicles, knives, chainsaws, firearms, chemicals, fire starters, ropes, saws, chains, and many other 'dangerous' tools that can kill, but they have only served valuable purpose- because of the person using them. 😉
@@lukawilliams4822 Sorry if i came across any negative way, was just reminding potential 'gun control' people that guns don't murder, people do! Your 'hammer and nail' comment made me think you were against people's right to protect themselves. And no, I certainly don't think the narcissist in this video should've been anywhere near a firearm! He had wannabe cop syndrome, thank God he never became a cop! Sorry, I can be a bit long-winded, but I'm not seeking an argument.
"The most ironic part of all of this is ..Drejka confronted someone about parking illegally by (& while) parking illegally". He was more focused on adding a notch to his gun.
This case demonstrates the difference between the cops getting you to talk with them or not. That interview sank this defendant. Same with the McMichels.
