Great video as usual .. I was up in the air about buying this boot but this video and Rose Anvil’s comparison video helped me make the decision to buy it . Whenever I’m interested in a particular boot I refer to your videos .. thanks for another great review 👍🏼
Probably in the sole somewhere. I've bought a couple pair like that and never saw the flaw until I sent them to be resoled and my cobbler found the issues
Hey Dale - given your collection, I would love to see a video of sorts of your top 5 most worn pairs (not necessarily your favorite, but just the ones that you have found yourself reaching for more than others), as well as some boots you regret buying.
I suspect that with a longer lace (stock laces are a bit short), you can leave the laces in the D-rings and not have to worry about stringing them through every time.
Got pair couple weeks ago, great boots with couple things I didn't like. Laces are to skinny for heavy duty boots like these, instead of second pair of same laces it would better if they included leather option. I replaced skinny laces with leather ones. In my opinion D-rings don't belong to the top of the boot, they are fine on lower holes where laces are never coming out. At the top they are finicky to lace every time and if you don't lace them they rattle. So I replaced them with speed hooks. Took me about half an hour to do it. Got speed hooks kit from Amazon with punch and anvil. If anybody is going to do same use original washers, they much better than flat washer included in kit.
Reminds me of the old Irish setter countrysider chukka boot. Had 5tt pairs of those before they discontinued the design. Was a pebbled kangaroo leather. Gortex lined. GYW.
So found your channel a few months ago and have always worn redwings and those normal name brands and after finding your content have wanted to try Grant Stone. I'm looking at these boots and also a pair of the diesel boots (heritage style). Would I better getting the field boots in a bison for longevity?? They will be treated rough
Hello Dale 1) is the sizing for this bison Field boot same as the Brass? I have the Brass chromexcel 8.5E and Disel kudu 9E, and they looked the same size. Now I wonder which size I should go for this tough bison Field. 2) when sitting and standing up, does the Field's double collar get caught easily in the jeans or pants, and needing to pull down the jeans cuff?
Loved more information on the leather and construction Dale! The history truly helped too and I love that it was a joint collaboration that both Wyatt & his dad were working on. So far I've been doming my Field Bison Grant Stones (seconds) since the 5th. Really good and I can already see it getting lighter with work. I also swapped my laces into Dark Umber, although I went Dark Umber rather than standard. Great minds think alike? No Kilties yet however. I am wearing through that sole rather quickly! Sort of concerned whether I will need a resole before Dome is done. Is there a way to get a replacement sole or just rock a Vibram Christy when the time comes? I'm putting an average of 7+ miles on the days I wear them. In personal fit I did go a half size down and noticed I had to move from a lightweight to a medium weight work sock to get a better fit in terms of volume. My left foot had a slight throbbing in the plantar fascia area with the thin sock. Medium weight wool sock seemed perfect so far and I can move into a heavyweight sock when the winter sets in if need be. A question Dale on fit. I am thinking of getting a second field boot for the future. I am a 12D Brannock and got an 11.5D for my first boot per customer service recommendation on the Field boot. In the past I was recommended 11E from Wyatt on the Diesel. Would I maintain or lose volume from moving to an 11E? Definitely curious if the fit might be better? My measurements in a medium weight cushion work socks would be a 12D heel to ball, 11.5D heel to toe, my left foot is a borderline C/D volume, and my right foot is a borderline D/E in volume. I was thinking of going with the 11E for a second pair. I figured I would get a second opinion first. If I had one wish it would be for the boot to have a fully gusseted tongue to prevent water, dirt, and debris in. 7" tall is pretty good although I do miss the additional support of 8". Overall though they are very excellent and I am enjoying them, my gripes are minor although I wish I could get a custom 8" fully gusseted, it'd probably be in my top two boots at that point. My second Dome boots are a pair of Nick's and they are a beast compared to the Grant Stone. I actually look forward to giving my feet a break in the Grant Stone but I expect both boots to be amazing by the end of 7 months! Thanks for your review and it was great to see those Ostrich Boots too!
Hey brother!! I honestly don’t find a significant a difference between going down a half size and going down a full size and up a width. That said, I find the 8E’s are more anatomically correct and I find my ball placement a little more exact! If you have slight extra volume on the 11.5D as I do with the 8.5D, then going 11E would certainly dial in the fit a little better! If you wanted them snug though perhaps try the 11D but that will depend largely on the leather. For stretchy leather like CXL or kudu you could get away with it, but with a firm temper like Badalassi Veg tan I wouldn’t size down too much! Hope this helps and thanks for all your thoughtful insights!!
@@DalesLeatherworks Thanks man! I appreciate the advice! And you are right! I had a slight bit of extra volume in the 11.5D beyond what I need. Loved the toe room and the ball lineup isn't perfect. I'll probably try an 11E and see how that works. Definitely debating the Saddle Tan, just not sure how to condition it? I do like the idea of it being stiffer. I love the look of the Bison, but a soft temper doesn't feel as supportive by the end of the work day. If you enjoy a firm temper that molds to your foot. I highly suggest a boot made out of Wickett & Craig's Oiled Latigo. Still bar none my favorite leather! Although I have to admit the stiffness isn't for everyone, but it far and away is my best fitting boot due to that one year later. I would love to know how it compares to Shinki if you ever pick up a pair. I've been debating a pair of John Lofgren's but I prefer a firm temper and can't find out enough info to be willing to pull the trigger on a $1000+ boot without knowing more about it.
For Real, though... is one more abrasion resident, one more waterproof, does one stretch and conform better ... and what about their Kangaroo leather ?
Hey Dale quick question, which would you rather? GS field boot in bison or Truman upland in Java waxed and the GS field boot in reverse snuff kudu vs the Truman upland in cattail grizzly rough out?
Dale - I'm buying a pair of the Field Boots this week but I am stuck between Walnut Bison and Burgundy Kudu. If it's a coin flip for me, do you have any insight of one over the other? Thanks for the great reviews!
@@DalesLeatherworks Good to know Dale, surprised you didn't enter one of the boots as a token gesture. Then again if you are in it to win it, I bet you want something with wow factor!
@@aradoran They are doing Dome signups for November 1st-5th. If you get a max air dry boot dryer(run it on no heat) and run it three hours. Throw in boot trees to maintain the shape you should be able to make up for lost time. Be a pleasure to have another person doming and you aren't too late.
