About The Guest:
Alex Honnold is on the podcast! Who? The guy that free-handed Yellowstone? Close enough.
Seriously though, this was such a great interview. We talked about his two most epic solos that nobody heard about, near misses, lessons from other climbing legends like Tommy Caldwell, Jonathan Siegrist, and Peter Croft, pooping while free soloing stories, how the film Free Solo exceeded his hopes and dreams, the commitment to excellence, and much more!

Yesterday, I free soloed to retrieve a Frisbee. I didn't do it for fame, so I get that. I don't understand my boys not even filming the epic accomplishment they witnessed. I asked "did you get a shot of that?" They said "dad, get off the roof and don't be weird." In time, they will know.

The biggest changer for experts is that they take on much harder things, but they also become blasé. That’s because it’s very hard to stay this concerned when you become an expert, you start to take things for granted you’re not as careful anymore you think you know all the dangers but perhaps for a little bit overweight or you’re really tiredor you don’t plan as carefully that’s really the danger of being an expert it’s the thing that you most have to guard against and I think that’s what we’re talking about here. Alex is a human being and of course we’re all subject to being human beings.

I was told about a route in the Mourne hills in Ireland. Heavily vegetated, lichen etc.... Counter to the local environmental sentiment someone poured gasoline raw down the line. No lichen. No vegatation. etc.. down a narrow band astride the route. Can't decide what I think of this. It's complex.

Alex is going to have to go to the wellness clinic to climb a 15. Don't underestimate the power of enhanced pharmaceutical therapy. I dream of being able to afford the wellness clinic like Bezos and Kennedy. It's crazy how much power you can get without gaining a pound or you can actually drop weight and get crazy power. When I was powerlifting at 128lbs, the guys on juice were doing 100lbs more. It's nuts! Ah, memories. Probably better to just stick with IBU. ;-)

This is definitely a climber's video! Too much terminology and letters/numbers combinations to confuse a normal everyday person like me! 11b's, 5 whatever... Too much... so many pitches and so on... What the hell is a pitch? Maybe it would make an interesting idea for a video explaining all the climbing terminology in the first few minutes, or comically illustrating what those letters+numbers mean everytime they are mentioned. Maybe entitle it "Climbing for Dummies".
