@Justin Cross: For those two Ladder companies, 4 and 11, who was speaking for each one? It’s bonechilling because after they say 10-4, that’s the last we ever heard from them. 😞
The very first transmission comes from the guys who had the French brothers documentary team with them. They were out checking a gas alarm and watched the first plane hit the trade centre. Horrific.
Yep. Chief Phieffer (Battalion 1) right before he made the transmission that the plane was aiming for the building he said to his driver "that looked like a direct attack."
how come none of those morning/evening city sky line cam shots from literally every local news station caught it? every day the local san antonio news shows me a shot of our crappy, forgettable skyline. I assume those cameras are set in a fixed position. they always replay that one shot of a local nyc station showing the skyline the night before, couldn't that have maybe caught it? guess that would make the french bros footage less iconic if they had.
I am continually drawn to this recording. There is such bravery and devotion to duty that was exhibited that day! Our country was never the same after that attack.
I’ve never listened to all these before. These recording coupled with air flight, norad etc. when you listen to it all it’s quite surreal. Thanks for sharing this. May everyone who passed during this tragedy Rest In Peace
This still breaks my heart, and the poor controller sounds so sad. The more evil in this world, the closer l want to get closer to God. From NZ, all my love and respect.
The dispatcher is John Lightsey. A regular man who coordinated one of the US's hardest rescue efforts....except later he'd find out it was more recovery.
Monday is gonna be the 22nd anniversary for this tragic incident. RIP All the victims and I send prayers to all the families who lost their loved ones in the plane and twin towers
Imagine handling just normal everyday callouts at dispatch and suddently battalion 1 reports that plane has crashed to the biggest skyscraper in the whole country 😢
Collapses are right after 1:11:30 (you can clearly hear all the radios inadvertently triggering as the 1st tower fell, and background noise of the collapse) and then 2nd tower at 1:41:00 . Chilling
Yeah sadly they were going on a suicide mission cuz they weren't going to be able to get anybody from the 93rd floor and 105th floor of those respective buildings anyway because everybody above the 92nd and 77th were trapped and died with the collapse, by fire, explosion, asphyxiation or injury upon impact of the plane or right after, or, jumped to their deaths😢
I was up from DC at 140 West Street when this happened. Absolute bedlam!!! Everyone running to safety away from danger and these guys running towards it. I’ll never forget that day. Walked to Jersey and was lucky enough to get a rental car and make it back to DC. Was shaking like a leaf in the wind the whole way covered in dust. Condolences to all those that didn’t make it home.
If you had direct contact with the dust at the very least, you need to make sure you are healthy as you can be. That dust from the towers has been proven to be toxic and prolonged exposure increased the risk of various health conditions because of the materials in the dust (such as asbestos) and multiple first responders have died because of their prolonged exposure to the dust while they were on the pile. It was not the dust itself that got them, but the materials in the dust caused them to suffer from various conditions until their deaths. I hope you are in good health and are looking after yourself and going to regular doctors visits, so you can catch anything that pops up because of your exposure to the toxic dust from the towers.
@@quietreader4190 I was working for Verizon at the time(now retired) and was also in the National Guard(also retired). I’ve had both military and civilian doctors check me out 8 ways to Sunday on a number of occasions and luckily I don’t seem to have any problems. I survived 9/11 and being deployed after and so far I’m doing well health wise. From everything over the past few decades I’ve survived and those I’ve known who were lost I feel blessed to be able to sit around and tell the stories.
Lt. O'Hagan reached for the department radio and transmitted a second alarm and a 10-60 signal for the World Trade Center. A 10-60 signal is a code for a disaster. We headed towards the scene. First, down Gold Street. A right on Beekman Street.. RIP
Thank you for your service to your community, may you continue to find happiness and peace. The 343 FDNY personnel who gave their lives will never be forgotten, nor will the FDNY and other first responders who continue to perish as a result of 9/11 related illnesses.
The first guy to reach the impact zone in the south tower. Pretty amazing when you consider he was in the north tower lobby for a good amount of time after the second hit. I remember seeing him in Naudet documentary when he was huddled up with the other chiefs and captains
Memorial Day 2023 remembering the first responders of that day ! Most brave people in history! Equal to any American soldier on any battlefield! Major respect
RIP to all those who lost their lives. I was running an archaeological dig at a major airport when this happened. The absence of any air traffic was chilling, but we didn't know why. Then we were ordered out of the airport, drove to our office and heard about the first plane, then the rest. I remember it as clearly as if it were yesterday. The world changed in the most heart-rending way.
Around the 2 hour mark sounds like someone had the VOX setting on their radio and they either dropped the radio or died and the background noise keeps making the radio transmit.
referring to a handsfree transmit mode that listens to your voice and automatically transmits when you talk, stops transmitting when you stop talkin. @@williamriccardi2373
@@williamriccardi2373Vox is voice activated transmit, meaning when X amount of noise is heard it keys up automatically, and when noise goes down low enough it quits the transmission
it helped that some members were with a documentary filmmaker on the streets of Manhattan with a clear view of the World Trade Center when the first plane approached and hit the north tower
It didn't have to happen ... the CIA knew that two hijackers were inside the US for over a year but refused to inform anyone. They've never even apologized for it as far as I know. Al Gore's Florida recount had also paralyzed the country. Bin Laden literally had declared war against us. Everyone knew that the violence and chatter were steadily increasing. The Bin Laden soldiers should have been interrogated and may have given up the plot but the CIA said no way. How sad .... how is the blood not on their hands too?
@@saund102 the worst part is they trained to fly a plane in FL. They said they didn’t want to know how to land. It was reported to the FBI but nothing came of it. Same thing with the Boston bombers. Russia warned the FBI about them and they did nothing. The FBI is useless and corrupt.
@@saund102 I’m so freaking mad I was a baby when this happened but when I hit 20 I did some research and from I learned the c.i.a knew about it since 1998 they even tracked their emails and they were going to go with their plan in the year 2000 then January of 2001 then may then June them just decided September 1,1 this could have been avoided they even told the president and others what their plan was going to be Smh
K means "I am done with this message" you usually hear it more from dispatchers than field units. Its usually used when dispatcher is done with one message but is not unkeying the radio to say something else.
@@GloucesterCountyNJFire thanks didn't know exactly because their had to have been over 20,000 vehicles just in New York City Alone and maybe some in DC
A lot of New Yorkers and most info the north east coast tend to say ‘Kay’ after a lot of their statements. Sometimes it is said as like a ‘hey you get that?’ Kinda thing.
There isn’t a word strong enough to describe the heroism and sacrifice they gave. They shouldn’t have gone in the building. It baffles me that a building that big had narrow stairwells. Even if there was just a normal fire not planes but like a normal fire there does seem to be any fire safety at all for a builder that big, I doubt they even had drills.
As i know, they found him and he is alive. He was a civilian at this day but worked for some agency. It happend to be that he was in this area at this time.
That’s normal . I was a victim in an attempted car jacking and there was a mini van involved that one of the car jackers was driving. I told the cops that the van was maroon colored and my friend swore it was green. We still don’t know what color that dang van actually was. Trauma does strange things to the mind.
He was reporting from the water. Sunny day and blue sky. What’s yellow sun plus blue sky give you + some trauma? Also, not the only error on these tapes…there’s a fair bit of “broken telephone”-a man hanging from the antenna vs hanging out a window near the top of the tower, some misheard engine numbers need repeating, etc. That day there were plenty of misheard/misunderstood rumours too…the battery tunnel was closed for a while and people were worried about bridges, etc because the confusion was intense. I wasn’t in NYC but all of us were very on edge that day!
Car 1-5 are the top brass of FDNY incl. chief and commissioner. They died. Car 6-10 iirc are borough commanders. Car 9 is the Queens boss, quite prominently featured.
@@mahartma what about when someone says, “Ladder/Truck 4, Engine 10, Rescue 3,” is it the Captain or Lieutenant that does the communication with dispatch usually?
