First off, it's not a Maybach, it's a Taxicab with a 2 litre 4 cylinder economy engine. Second, a torque wrench is necessary to insure that things such as the connecting rods or main caps don't come loose. I give that engine about 200 miles before it's totaled by something coming loose and that is only if it driven at 30 mph or LESS. BTW, it's also not 50 years old, it's late 80-'s or later.
I give the engine 0 miles before something comes loose... He spray painted the interior of the engine including the lifters and springs, not to mention there are no gaskets installed... This is a staged "find" and just for click bait.
@@DawidKopia-qk5bs all the work he performed is producing waste like old engine oil paint and grinding in the open so all of this goes into the air and soil which is poisinous and punishable in Germany
I had a S650 Maybach super sports car just like this, paid about 2k for it back in the early 2000's, it was the 190E special taxi version. If this is 50 years old, I've just had my 130th birthday...
Pink exhaust... OK... Your painstaking attention to detail Your exquisite quest for perfection And your exemplary competence Has rendered me absolutely speechless. I feel like a mere mortal being exposed to aptitude I can only dream about. 😀👍
I laughed out loud watching this Benny Hill video. I learned that with a pair of tongs, a brush broom and a few blows of the hammer, you can get the Barbie doll's car with the usual high quality of Asian industry and an acute concern for ecology and recycling. Thank you for helping to save the world, your contribution is invaluable. 🤣🤣🤣
Very interesting video, fellas. I really enjoy restoration projects. However, in the future, make sure that when you stage your finds, there's no "green" grass under a car that's been sitting for years.
Why do they do this "finding a project" thing in the wild? Why not just start at the shop? Also, not 50 years old :-) I am drawn to restoration videos too, but they need to keep it real.
A true legend! Many a restoration expert would swim a sea full of tacks just to be eclipsed by the shadow of his automotive restoration accomplishments.😂
I never thought I'd see so much wrong done to a single car in my lifetime, and I've seen some pretty bad things. Congratulations, I couldn't do worse. And about that engine, I don't think you can make an engine run without any piston ring and with all that paint inside, so you probably got another one and put in there. But if by any means you made that engine run and move the car, I'm buying an old Mercedes tomorrow because that's probably the only thing we'll be able to drive after the machines take over.
Epic. A 50 year old Maybach restored with plaster and ..more plaster. I think the engineers from Germany could learn how to build and maintain proper Maybachs. I hope you can restore a 70 year old Audi R8 soon, since the model are very rare. Did you plaster the cylinder heads too?
I’ve learned such a lot here. When I think of all the time I’ve wasted in the past, bothering with things like masking up, checking torque settings etc. and investing in a decent tool set when I only needed a hammer. Got to admit I’d never thought of painting the big end journals and valve springs before. I’m also impressed how the red paint seems to change colour to pink. 🤪
I've never seen a flywheel ring gear repaired that way.☹️😂 I'm also wondering why Mercedes bother to use gaskets. It looks like a bit of grey paint sprayed on the mating surfaces gives a perfect seal. I don't know why they use rings on their pistons either. It's so much easier to fit the pistons without rings, they just slide right in, lol.
I think maybe you skipped a step; I never saw anyone paint the exhaust manifold without using the bondo first. If this was a full restoration, maybe you should also paint the tailpipe and muffler. It looked OK, but attention to detail is always good. Thanks!
Hey everyone, just watched this repair video from South Asia and gotta say, mad respect to these folks. Yeah, some of the repairs look off, but let's get real - they're doing the best with what they've got. It's super easy for people from ex-colonial powers to throw shade, but isn’t it a bit rich coming from countries that had a hand in messing up these places in the first place? We're talking centuries of countries like the Netherlands, France, Germany, and England just taking what they wanted and turning these places into colonies. That history left deep scars and challenges that these guys are still dealing with. So, this video? It's more than just repairs. It's about guts, skill, and dealing with a tough hand. To those from the colonial countries dropping negative comments: how about showing some respect for once? These guys deserve a like and, honestly, a silent donation to their channel would be the least you could do. Greetings from Russia
I see a lot of arrogant comments about Germany and its industry, but what these guys from East Asia did makes the most skilled Mercedes engineers take my hat off to them... How did they breathe life into that car? I am certain that if this car had been found in Germany in the same condition, the workers would have given a thousand excuses for the futility of this project.
I must say, comedy doesn’t get much better than that. All that’s missing is Benny Hill to arrive and the music to start. Sweet mother of all that is good, what have I just done. I have just wasted one whole hour on what must be meant as a long and elaborate joke. My favourite part was the welding and grinding of the cog. Aaarrrrggghhhh…..
people look carefully at how the engine was primed and in what places. Pay special attention to where the camshaft is installed. And now think about whether they primed it correctly and how long the engine will last before it knocks.
Imagine my surprise when I saw all the Bondo going on. You might as well use rattle cans; you'd get a better result in your paint finish. This rebuild is akin to going down to Pep Boys, buying all the shiny plastic junk, and applying it to an 83 Chevy Chevette. My favorite part? When he took the time to scrape the gasket material from the bottom of the block, only to spray the open block with the crank in (51:06). Priceless!
Everything appears to be fake; the exterior of the car rusted in equal like it have a brown-painted body, while the interior seems brand new. The tires are in excellent condition, and even the engine components inside are painted. and where the hell is the engine head gasket? :)
clearly this dude has never heard of taping prep work . all those mating surfaces and inside the crank case are full of paint , the head , the oil pan , basically everything, the hoses , electrical, all paint . the alternator, waterpump, distributor cap, crank wheel , belt tensioner, this guy even painted the bushings and bearings inside and out . hoses , ufk didn't even miss the oil filter , the ignition coils , the starter wheel , man painted the clutch and plate , oh my Jesus. some German engineer somewhere is definitely saying we invaded the wrong country in 1939 . I swear I'm half way through this if he paints the ufkin tranny inside and out I'm gonna lose my shit
No need to walk on the body before restoring it. First they take out the motor, and then they paint it. After such a repair, the motor, if it works, will not work for long.
That's a quick flip right there LOL 😆, this is why we don't want nothing from China. They sell this crap to their own people, just imagine what American stuff looks like coming from China
4:00 A curious way to remove the front windshield, I have been in the restoration business for years and today I learned how to "forcefully" remove a piece that I usually do in a less aggressive way.... As we say in Spain: Each teacher uses his book at his convenience.
I had the same thoughts as you.Breaking all the glass on the windscreen when it is obvious it comes out in one piece. The whole job was terrible, there would have been oil all over the place, and then a dead engine.if he was able to start the car, which I very much doubt. James😊
Menudo chisgarabis!!! 🤯🤯🤯 El color si me gusta... 🤔🤔🤔 Bonito!!!... 🥴💊💊💊💊💊 Alucinógeno.
