Would be nice to see the difference between the shut down capability with and without the DEFRA kit installed. Thanks again for a brilliant demonstration.

Brilliant review! Thank you. I was wondering if you have a review of the Contura 210G? We’re having 2 stoves installed at our new house at the end of august. At our old home we had a Woodford multifuel (which was there when we moved in) but we preferred wood and struggled to keep it burning for long - I presume because it was a multifuel? We really want to get it right. Whilst we’re not really for the modern look, our installer says the 210G is one of the best he’s tried. We’re going to be using them as our main source of heat, not just now and then. Any opinions?

I haven’t tested a 210 yet, but I have seen one going. I wouldn’t place it as a serious use stove, simply because it’s a bit more focused on the look than serious function. That’s not to say I don’t expect it to be very good, I do, but from a function point of view I would also look at: Heta Ambition (best for overnight) DG Ivar 5 (easiest to use) Hunter Herald Allure 7 (best value) Jotul 602 and F100. Very traditional, beautifully made and very competent Dean Forge Croft. Traditional and suited to serious use Burley’s are also excellent, but their internal components will be expensive and need replacing more regularly so like with the Contura, they’re not my first pick in this case.

@@TheTortoisethanks so much for this! We’ve had a good look and are going for the DF Croft in the kitchen/back room as that’s a big room and where we spend most of our time, and probably the Contura in the lounge as it’ll not be used as heavily and the wife is pretty sold on it now. I’d still be interested in seeing a review of it if ever you get chance, though. Really appreciate the advice, thanks again 😊

@@user-yz8ch9ns9z it does look really smart to be fair. I definitely don’t think you’ll have any problems, if you go for the Croft small in the other room then you’ll have a big beast that can do the majority of the serious graft.

I think this stove is the same as the Go Eco range ? Just rebranded.

Yep you’re right. Go Eco, FireLine and FDC all use the same stove engine.

Why don't you test the multi fuel stoves with coal? I know you don't like coal but many of us do, mainly because it's cheaper, burns longer and hotter than wood [wood approx 4kw per kilo & coal approx 8kw per kilo] there are 11 or more houses near me, apart from 1 which is a wood burner all are multi fuel and we all burn coal, all buy from the same coal merchant as well
@TheTortoise
@TheTortoise Год назад
I have been experimenting with this recently actually. The differences between wood and coal aren’t quite as stark as this and actually particularly with smokeless fuel as apposed to normal house coal. Wood will typically achieve much higher temperatures, but on a graph will tend to be more peaky, where as coal based fuel is a bit more even over time (like a hill rather than a mountain on a graph, if you know what I mean). Good wood stoves and technique will bring wood much closer again, but I get that coal is still widely used.
