It’s a long procedure 😢 I just got out of the dentist with my second root canal and I’m numbed and I’m in serious pain I’m just going to sleep til the numbness wears off 😢
@@carltonayre4664 no pain while it was going on. The only thing that hurt a little bit was when they inject the novocaine into your gums. But that only lasts a few seconds and you’re good.
@@carltonayre4664 I didn’t feel anything at all. The only thing that hurt a little was when they inject the Novocain into your gums but that only makes your eyes water for a few seconds and you’re good to go.
@@carltonayre4664I get my permanent crown next week but I can tell you there should be no pain during both procedures unless you have an infection on the tooth
I believe that's what happened to one of my side teeth. The dentist I used to go to did a root canal on it. When I moved, I started going to another dentist and once I started going to him, he said he didn't like the way it looked. He said he's not saying the other dentist did anything wrong. It wasn't bothering me, but he sent me to another dentist to do the first portion of the root canal again. I went back to the second dentist to get the final crown. Then I started having problems with it getting loose and falling out. The last time it fell out he did X-rays and said it's nothing there to hold it in place. I believe they grinded too much off. Now I'll have to spend thousands of dollars to get an implant
a greedy dentist did a cheap cerec porcelain crown on my molar when i was younger. it broke and i found a doctor that gave me a zirconia crown instead and he accepted insurance and he did a better job and the crown is so beautiful and has anatomy and i love it. i haven’t had a single cavity in over a decade and i’ve gone to multiple dentist so i know it’s not my oral hygiene. im still sad about my dead lil soldier 🦷 👼🏽
When was your first crown done? If your crown was done before 2010 then it was never going to be zirconia. Zirconia got FDA approval for use in dental crowns in 2011. Normally dentists must give you all the options so you make an informed decision. The options must include everything from doing nothing, to the cheapest option and on to most the expensive option. Obviously they must also Inform you about the pros, cons and costs. The final decision is yours. The question is, did you choose the cheap option or your insurance could only cover the cheap option or .... your dentist didn't tell you about all options ... in which case his 'greed' is poor quality😂😂😂
Wou ! This procedure looks very clean!. Yesterday I had my treatment. But they didn't make me that temporary crown. Nor did they make the impression for the crown. Instead they gave me an appointment for 2 week.🤷♀️ It will be due to the quality of work of each dentist? 😮
The most important thing about your dentist is bedside manner. My dentist treats his patients like family and it’s so comforting. I don’t have a fear of the dentist anymore. Such skillful professionals
I am a trainee dental nurse and was really struggling with RCT. For me this video is pure gold. It has made studying RCT so simple. Hats off to you and your video!!!
@@RG-hf4et Hi i was going through Root canal had 4 seating but while eating it got break from one side inside way now dr is saying for extraction or teeth bridge cap but is it possible that it can be filled with filling and put crown on it as from 7 days there is only temporary filling and it seems pretty good so
Why did I think watching this would be easier on my anxiety lol. I might have to get this done and I’m terrified cause I only got drilling done last time a numbing and I almost cried and passed out and I feel kinda pathetic. ☠️
I just got two yesterday and I'm five seconds away for filling in my prescription for hydrocodone ! I wanted to see what was done that has me in so much pain! I didn't feel a thing during the procedure though, but this healing process ain't no joke!!
@@lashayparker5602 no ma'm! I actually went to my dentist yesterday to get my temporary crowns. My gums weren't even sore when the numbing subsided. The soreness you feel after the root canal is the toughest part and that lasted 3-5 days for me.
I just got a root canal and crown a couple days ago. It was super painful when the nerves were drilled out.. my dentist didnt use the rubber around the tooth, so my mouth was a total mess afterwards.. Im so happy to have my tooth back though!!
You shouldn’t feel anything!! They just have to numb it more/ deeper if you start feeling pain. I have had I think 4 root canals and they always have to add some more anesthetic but after that it’s painless! Don’t just rough through it!! ❤️😭
God I wish I can go to this guy. I lost my 14 year old son to cancer after a 5 year battle so i had to use all my money for him at the time and couldn't get my teeth fixed. I'm now suffering and need work done but my last dentist caused a mess for me.
I’m so sorry for your loss. 💔💔. Sacrifice is such an understatement. I can’t even imagine.. i pray you get the finances to have your beautiful smile back. If anyone deserves to smile, it’s you. 🙌 I have had 5 children, & having children takes so much nutrition out of our teeth. Last pregnancy I had was twins and my teeth have never been the same. They’re weak, brittle, & dull. Never were like this before. I am hoping to get back to smiling again one day, but I can’t afford it. Not right now. Keeping you in my prayers. 🙏
@@wasimahmed1570 it went alright. Not the best. During my procedure I had trouble maintaining my oxygen levels so they were giving me oxygen when I woke up. Because of that, my dentist refused to do my crowns. They referred me to a dentist who can do these kinds of things in a hospital. On August 30 I’m having surgery at the hospital to pull two of my wisdom teeth, do the impressions for my permanent crowns, fill 21 cavities, put temporary crowns on AND a deep cleaning
I need a root canal on a molar i recently chipped to the nerve which is the size of a pin head...which causes a lot of pain for me which I have scheduled but this gives me the information I need to understand what actually happens during the procedure
Why didn’t you use cotton rolls on the lingual to help keep things dry when you were doing the post and the build up? Did you use something besides retraction cord for the gingiva? Just curious.
i had a root canal done on my molar around 2 months ago but couldn’t get a crown because i had to get my wisdom teeth removed so they put a permanent filling, i’m going back this friday so they can put my crown, this video made me feel better about the procedure
@@wingedhussar2909 it’s not bad bro, there’s no pain at all they just take measurements of your teeth and they just make your tooth smaller to fit into the crown and that’s really it it’s a fast procedure, they put a temporary crown then you have to go back in two weeks to get the permanent crown, you got it bro there’s no pain and this is coming from someone who has a huge fear of the dentist
I had a root canal done on my #3 tooth which had a crown on it. X-rays showed i had an abscess in my bone that had to be cleaned out. Had to drill 3 holes through my crown to get it all. Took almost 2 hours and it seemed like the doctor used more tools than i have in my workshop. Of course I couldn't see what was going on and it was probably a good thing. It requires a lot of skill and a steady hand. I could never do it. I now will need to replace the crown. Root canal procedure was $2k not including a new crown.
I had this last month and I thought it would be very painful.. Thanks to the anesthesia and to my dentist ❤ Thanks to kriss ai too, it gave me tips on what can I do after the procedure 👍👍
It's fantastic to hear that your dental procedure went smoothly and was less painful than anticipated, all thanks to the anesthesia and the skill of your dentist. I'm intrigued by your mention of Kriss AI. Could you share more about how it helped you? Wishing you a speedy recovery and continued dental health
Had a temporary crown put on yesterday but in the process the dentists assistant was trying to pull something or it felt like that and shattered something which felt like sharp glass and was all over my mouth she mentioned something to the dentist I stopped because it hurt him and said that it's locked after the dentist left I asked her did she break my tooth she said no she would be stressed if she did and was acting weird should i be concerned?
Great video and Great job! The only thing I would have done different on the first appointment before placing the rubber dam completely remove the decay especially on the distal but avoid exposing the pulp, this way you can seal off the distal with a glass ionomer completely, then place rubber dam and complete excavation near pulp and create your access. This way you are not getting bacterial leakage coming from under the dam on the distal.
I’m getting the beginning of my crown work tomorrow from my current dentist and hoped that by watching this my anxiety would lessen… it has not 😅 I don’t know what type of post they’re using and I don’t know if they make can make their crowns in house (I’m thinking not after watching this). Unsure if I’ll be stuck with a temp or not. Missing my old dentist who was a veritable master at resin work, hope he enjoys his retirement tho.
I’m currently in the process of a root canal and let me tell you, this is the worst thing I’ve gone through. My dentist took 2 and half hours and I still have to come back in a week 🤦🏽♂️ it’s so painful. I hope others have a better experience.
The process involves carefully breaking the bond between the crown and the tooth without damaging the underlying tooth structure. You may ask kriss ai for the detailed explanation 👍
have to get three root canals with three crowns next week due to my previous dentist being too drill-happy on several fillings and drilling all my 'small' cavities down to my nerve, causing my nerves to recede and cause lots of pain. I'm only 17, and my nerves are super far up when they should be closer to the top of my tooth . I got an emergency temporary crown on three of my teeth in preparation for my root canals next week, but my old dentist filled drilled and filled 8 'small' cavities total so thanks for having this video to show me what I'm in for next week, and possibly further down the road when the other teeth he filled start acting up, which my new dentist said will happen soon due to how far he drilled in all my teeth he did fillings on..
Thank you for sharing. Wow - your patient's tooth is in an area similar to my tooth that received root canal treatment. At least a rubber barrier was used during your procedure - my dentist did not so I won't be surprised if I end up with decay in nearby teeth in the future. The dentist also had to provide additional numbing medicine IN the canal because I still felt pain while receiving root canal treatment. First canal treatment no pain because I was stuck 7 times (right side of face became numb but 10 minutes out from the appointment I could speak freely and get a beverage to drink!). Second treatment fewer sticks (they are the dentist so they should know I thought) - felt ok at first but as soon as I felt pain in the canal I became quite LOUD 😢. So pain med was placed in the canal after disinfecting the canal....not normally done, but I was in pain. The crown has not been placed yet even though the root canal treatment was done over 1.5 months ago. An infection under the root canal occurred and was treated with clindamycin 😑. I need to request a tooth check "during cleaning/x-ray time" so if the 'root canaled tooth' needs additional treatment (or resin protection) before a crown is placed, it can be done. Thanks again for sharing and I hope your patients appreciate your attention to detail.
@@jasmineskydancer I'm gonna get one done by a general dentist soon, so I hope he does follow proper procedures 🤞. I was also surprised the Endo didn't but trusted her because my dentist at the time recommended her.
my general dentist also did not use a rubber barrier when she did the procedure on me on the other day. and now it's giving me anxiety 😞 cos i still have one tooth to be root canaled as well tomorrow
I had a cavity exactly the same as this.. my composite filling has fallen out twice, today my dentist removed the rest of the broken filling and placed a new one.... but after watching this im thinking this is what he should of done instead of another filling thsts likely to just fall out again
I'm curious I had an xray and cleaning. Told I needed to replace a crown. 3 weeks later the tooth next to the crown has abscess and in need of root can al and crown. Can the replaced crown cause abscess or possible dentist missed the need for root canal
Oh boy i just had this yesterday. All the dentist tools yesterday was exactly like this this. And it takes me 2hours for removing 1 root canal and filling, and oh i was sedated 4 times because i can still feel everything what the dentist doing with me yesterday. Painful as hell. So i got sedated 4 times to be totally numb😢. Molar root canal is No jokes people. So when u have it u definitely did to remove it. Godbless to all the dentist arouns the globe
just been quoted 1700 pounds for a root canal due to me being stubborn and not going when the pain started, is this a good price for a private dentist?
My dentist puts in plugs after drilling out the canals, puts in a temporary filling, and you come back in a week and he examines the plugs. If they are bloody he plugs the canals and sends you home for another week. The premolar in progress had had at least 6 or more visits. Only one canal is still bleeding.
Update… A month later and after about 4 more visits one root is sealed. I’m going back in a couple of days and a second one will be checked. The third root, the problematic one, will be checked in one month.
@@callmegeko It went very well. My tooth was sore for a bit, but I'm getting used to it, and it looks and feels nice. 😁 That was so kind of you to remember and to ask about it-- Thank you! ❤️🙏

Whew that was a lot!! but such a gr8 vid. I want this dentist…. to be my dentist. I had a horror story. Went for cavity fill, the dentist couldn’t numb me properly. Said my jaw anatomy is different. So I felt everything. Fear of dentist now☹️
I had irreversible pulpitis once and the dentist opened the tooth and prodded it (it was extemely painful) then told me she would torture me with the root canal at the next apt, I never went back to her. No other dentist ever did that either, 100% sure that woman was a psycho..
My dentist used a freeze spray on a cotton bud to touch my teeth to time how long it took to hurt and then how long it took to stop hurting so he knew how much anesthesia to use .. lasted til we were checking out about ten minutes after finish … that was close
Hellow from cold and tough Russia. I'm not a doctor and never was anywhere close to it, but while I was healing my root canals I heard that my dentist used electronic apex locator. You haven't mentioned it (or I haven't heard, sorry). You didn't use it? And you don't control wheter you cleaned all the pupl by making x-rays with files in canals, so how you sure that canal is cleaned?
‼️But what was the pain level DURING the procedure?? I've never needed work done before and I just found out I need a root canal in 2 weeks. I'm on antibiotics now. I'm terrified to death. Some people are telling me in hurts like hell and isn't worth and they're telling me to just get it pulled but I'm scared of that too cause its a wisdom tooth 😭😭
I just had my root canal done and I was scared like hell. It was a 1hr and half procedure but honestly I almost didn’t feel a thing cause your jaw will be super numbed because of the anesthesia. Don’t worry about it at all.
i had my root canal done this morning, the numbing shot they give you works pretty well, i noticed that when they drilled my tooth it felt pretty sensitive so i asked for more numbing. youll know when you need more numbing because for me when they drilled the hole i got chills all down my body and i think that was partially because they hit my nerves. its best to ask for more numbing at the beginning of the procedure rather than sit there not wanting to bother them. so it doesnt hurt. my tooth only hurts after the procedure because they did not take all teh nerves out and referred me to a specialist for that, so i need to wait a few days/weeks to have the rest taken out. all in all, its more uncomfortable than painful.
I had a root canal done last year. Was nervous asf. I went to a REAL endodontist(which I highly recommend) don't just go to a dentist that is also an endodontist. I dont trust them. So I went to this endodontist at a dental hospital. It was the easiest, smoothest dental procedure I've ever had done. Tool prob an hour and I was absolutely amazed at how easy it was. I didn't feel any pain at all. It was Incredible. I told him how amazed I was. It didn't even feel like I was at the dentist getting work done. I have to have another done soon and I will be going back to this same guy. But I don't know who told you it hurts because that's a lie. If they numb you correctly you ain't feeling a thing. I usually require extra novocaine so I always tell them that. Also if it's a wisdom tooth, you may want to just get it pulled. It's not a needed tooth. Why go thru all of that for a tooth that you don't even need ?? Do you havr insurance or paying out if pocket? Because pulling a tooth is MUCH cheaper than getting a root canal done. But don't be scared. It doesn't hurt. Just make sure you go to a real endodontist. Not a dentist who is also an endodontist. You will have a much better outcome.
I have experienced 2 root canal and 1 treatment. My dentist was amazing, tools that she use sound like a monster to me and their feelings on my mouth was the same but I haven't feel any pain. I sensed that she is drilling but felt nothing... An awesome experience.
I had two root canal’s 4 days ago. The teeth worked on are one tooth away from each other. One of the anesthesia shots was extremely painful, felt like it hit a nerve. A month ago I had 2 root canals, no problem. Right now been in pain since procedure. I’m wearing the temporary crowns till the permanent are made. I’m wondering why I’m still in pain. 😩🦷⚙️
Oh boy. I've had a lot of teeth work done, the worst novacaine shot is on your front area teeth, they inject into the center front upper portion of your gums and it felt like the needle was going up into my nostrils
@jamesbuttery3862 ugggh I'm sooo dreading that ! I need to get a few fillings done on my front teeth and I've been putting them off because my front teeth are everything and plus the novacaine shots hurt more than the procedure. Def not looking forward to these ones!.😬😬
I’ll be 49 this month and today is the first time I ever needed that work done.. I had an abscess on my lower back gums.. and after the x-ray they said I needed a Root Canal and Crown.. I know you said wait 2 to 5 days before getting the crown but they have me coming in tomorrow to get one.. is that right?🤔
My dentist cant do half the things in this video. I needed a root canal he sent me to an endodontist. Then it broke or failed the same night. He said its not savable but he could have drilled down to save it. What kind of dentist should I look for in my area that can do all this at his or her practice?
i had a root canal this morning and the rubber dam kept leaking so i kept having to swallow the disinfectant, which tastes like chlorine. the dentists seemed tobe struggling with my tooth so they eventually referred me to a professional endodontist because they could not access one of my canal nerves. so now my tooth hurts because the nerve left there is pretty damaged. hopefully they fix my tooth lol it kinda sucks
Should always go to a real endodontist for root canals anyways. For peace of mind. I had a root canal.done last year and I went to a real endodontist, at a dental hospital and it the was the easiest, smoothest procedure I've ever had done. I couldn't believe how easy the process was. It didn't even feel like i was at a dentist getting work done. I was amazed.
Be happy the dentist realized he could not complete the job & referred you to a specialist & didn't try to fudge anything. That is integrity, my friend.
Hasa cavity fixes last week, and still having discomfort.... needleaa to.say it was a very deep cavity, al.oat near my nerve... my dentist said i shoulf be find. But i start to experience any discomfort to call immediately.. so i am waitinf on my insurave to wave me to fo and ahead and get a root canal done... this will be my second one so far and i am 42
Shit, i have to have this process done asap. Looks painful even though it shouldn't be the worst part is that needle to numb everything lol Looking how the upper back molar will be done this I the closes to what I was looking for. Great informational video.
Oh man this procedure is torture i just had this done recently and ohh my god haha fully being tortured alive haha glad its over. Just waiting for my crown never again do i wish to have to endure that ever again!
I always thought that the black mark around the base of the crown was caused by NHS crowns which have a metal base and it is the metal which is showing through. Private British dentists tend not to use base metal crowns.
Hello Dr. Buck, I really appreciate your videos! Can you please explain why you were placing flowavle composite (I’m assuming) to the mesial margin on #30 and curing it before fabricating the temporary crown on #29? Thank you in advance!

i just got my root canal and my crown 5 days ago and it hurts when i put pressure on it i can’t eat on that side is that normal and how much longer will it be can someone please tell me?
My dentist is awful he drilled my whole tooth away an I have 2 tiny spikes one at front and 1 at back all the inside is gone then he made them so short I didn't think the crown would fit on them. I didn't get gums drilled and have a gap between the crown and gum. He needs striking off he hasn't got a clue. It was him that broke my tooth to start with thats why he done a crown. I wish you were my dentist. You know what you are doing x
A question, any reason why you decided to put a fake crown on this tooth? Rather than filling it up and do reconstruction work on that tooth? Was it because the tooth cavity is just too big and made the tooth is not structurally sound anymore?
The temp crown is just so you have tooth stability while waiting for the final one. the cavity is just too big to have just a filling (like you assumed lol)
Everyone’s experience is different, most don’t feel anything. I only felt pain from the numbing shot. I had a half cracked tooth that was infected. Doc poked right on the nerve, worst pain I ever felt for 4 seconds of my life. my experience sucked
got a root canal but im holding on getting a crown because my other teeth are causing me problem and since im not rich i d rather fix the other cavities before maybe getting a crown i just wish it doesn't break while i fix my other problematic teeth's
A previous dentist was careless with his drill and drilled into an adjacent sound tooth. Once I got home and the numbing begin to wear off, I looked at the crown in the mirror and noticed that the adjacent to had a pretty good-sized fresh cavity on the surface adjacent to the crown. I went back the next day and told the doctor. He said it was a fresh cavity caused by like a proper hygiene AKA flossing. That's BS cuz it had never showed up in previous exams.
cavities can take months to years to form depending on oral hygiene and even genetics, i think the cavity was already there but the doctor may have uncovered it or it just wasn’t seen in a clinical examination before, sometimes if the cavity is in between the teeth it can’t be seen during a physical exam but can be seen on x-rays (this is why doctors recommend x-rays being updated every 6 months), some cavities are small and don’t actually need to be treated because they aren’t causing any problems to the tooth, so they are left there to keep monitoring in case of growth. despite all that, i’m so sorry that your doctor missed it and just left it there like that, some doctors really aren’t paying close attention

this just happened to me...the cavity was discussed in the file in 2019..between teeth....and no comunication happened to me that I needed to set up appointment....in 2024, the premolar collapsed due to internal damaged..I just the had root canal done
The procedure itself is virtually painless besides some sharp pain with the numbing shots, and maybe a few jolts if they go to deep with the tools. The recovery on the other hand is pretty painful, the nerves in the tooth are now gone so you get ghost pain in the tooth for a couple days post op
I came here because after disclosing to my dentist the pains my tooth is giving she told me that i might need a root canal and a crown, my tooth which has been okay all day instantly started throbbing while I watched this video, oh boy!!!
Funny, my crown popped out once so I put it back in place and it fit so perfectly that I couldn't even take it back out. I had to go to the dentist to have him take it out and re-fit it.
hi! i did mine today i was so scared but when the procedure happened I didn't feel any pain at all now im just waiting for them to contact me when my crown is ready.
