A jury found Jennifer Crumbley guilty on all four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection to the Oxford High School shooting. Watch our full special report.
Creating dangerous kids by ignoring them & neglect! He was left alone from age 6 with his main companion violent video games! What the heck did they think would be the results?
Gross negligence on the parents here, buying their teenage son - who clearly has socializing issues among other mental issues - buys him a gun!... not a puppy, a gym membership, maybe get him into a sport league, or teach him to drive & get him a car...no....they buy him a gun! What on earth were they thinking? Bet they NEVER thought they would be on trial facing prison time Save the taxpayers the cost of another trial and send both mother & father to prison. 4 kids are dead because of THEIR negligence & THEIR sons stupidity. Pay more attention to your kids people, know what is going on with them, daily. Ask questions, answer their questions, respond to them, be a parent not their friend ....that comes later in life once they reach adulthood & create a life for themselves -THEN you can be their friends - as kids - they NEED attentive parents!!!!
I think they were hoping that Ethan would kill himself Then they would be done with hassling of him, but still get a lot of sympathy from their community. You would be surprised how many parents Intentionally actually set up their own children to die
They gave the boy whatever he wanted, to shut him up so that they could continue living their lives. Both spouses were cheating on each other. He told his mom he was seeing demons flying in the house. She said he was just "messing around". She said they bought their 15 year old a gun "to use at the gun range".
Can someone tell me exactly where she said that? Trust me, I don’t disbelieve it, but I have been watching this case from the beginning and have listened to all her testimony, and I never spotted that.
@@PhoenixDad14 Video is called 'I wish he would have killed us instead' - Jennifer Crumbly, mom of Oxford shooter' Timestamps: 1:23 happened and um I've asked myself if I 1:26 would have done anything differently and 1:28 I wouldn't have
Ignorant. Possibly the result of her own poor parenting models. She has no real capacity to understand mental illness. Perhaps she even doesn't buy into psychology as a valid science.
Of course she's guilty. That's why she ran and hid from the police. If Americans want the right to bear arms, they have the responsibility to keep those arms safe from public harm. Hopefully this verdict will set a precedent for being held accountable when they don't.
@@notpubshe was repeatedly shown evidence that her son wanted to use his guns against people. She ignored it. People died. It’s so cut and dry, you’d have to be brain dead or brainwashed to believe otherwise. Furthermore, parents are entirely responsible for ensuring their child is raised properly. Their gross negligence lead to the death of four children.
The prosecutor really took it easy on Crumbly. He didn't interrogate her on the fact that they locked their son out of the house the night before the shooting because he was hallucinating. Ethan made a video. He must have been freezing. Imagine having these terrifying hallucinations & instead of your parents helping you, they mock you, get angry & lock you out of the house. Evil parents raised a son who committed evil acts.
I didn’t know they had done that the night before. They locked him out because they were scared, but acted like there were no mental issues!!! Man, WOW!
It doesnt matter what the school said or anything that happened in the past. The second she saw that math work sheet was the second that this was forseeable. Shame on the school too but as his mother she needed to act immediately.
They didn’t know he had a gun they didn’t know all the incidents of him asking for help - she could have monitored his search history etc right decision
I suspect the school is very concerned at this point as they are being sued in federal court. I suspect James may now want to make a deal. Hope they don’t let him.
If I was school staff, I would have just called the police. He was clearly a danger to himself and others with his behavior. Parents wouldn’t remove him from school and the school allowed them to leave him there, negligible on both sides
@@barbh1 She never wrote it is illegal. Jennifer and her husband bought a firearm for Ethan and never locked it up, knowing (and ignoring) the son was vulnerable and mentally ill. That he hallucinates, believes the house is haunted, etc.
I agree the helicopter never got out of the gate either. If she had just taken him home from school, when she saw that picture of the gun, words that said “ the voices won’t stop”, “help me”, blood everywhere etc etc, KNOWING THEY HAD JUST BOUGHT HIM THE EXACT GUN….and then mentioned she “wouldn’t change a thing.” This was the RIGHT verdict. Hopefully his yields the same results. Both parents were too wrapped up in themselves to care at all about the state of mind of their son. Very sad all around.
@@notpubnope. She walked out of that meeting after 12 minutes knowing he could have the very gun he drew with “blood everywhere”. “HELP ME” her child said and she did nothing, not even secure the gun.
@@notpubif my dog killed someone because I had it running loose i would be held accountable same if you buy your unhinged kid a firearm the jury got it right and your an idiot.
I’m glad poor parents are finally being held accountable and people aren’t acting like adults have the right to treat children in which way they want to just because they had them
@@notpub….Lesson: don’t buy your minor kids a gun. Lesson: if you have kids, be responsible for them. Lesson: stay in tune to your kid when he’s screaming for help. Lesson: Lock your guns up so others can’t get a hold of them.
If you buy a kid a firearm, then you must assume responsibility what happens during the use of that firearm. You bought a minor child a firearm and expected not to be charged with murder after that said child murdered children in a school. I hope you're such a precedent, are you is that by your children firearms, now you can be held responsible for what your child does with that firearm you bought
@@jenn1388She bought the ammo! Don't buy her blame shifting & deflection! Thank GOD the jury saw through her! She "wouldn't have changed a thing"! Showed no real care or concern from the get go for her son or his dead child victim's!
In my family, we got our first .22 rifle at age 12, the age we could legally hunt in our state. We NEVER got to touch it without Dad with us, ever. We didn't dare. Our parents would never have done that, even taken us hunting, if we had mental issues. But they were real parents not "helicopter parents."
Even her closing arguments! Why bring up there were TikToks made about her and memes- they had nothing to do with Crumbley - The jurors couldn’t watch those things
When their son voiced his plans, the mother told him” just don’t get caught! Where’s the mentality of that? The parents are worthless human beings. So sad.
I'm curious how "mom, dad, take me to a doctor. I need help! I'm seeing clothes flying off shelves and having hallucinations" doesn't count as a red flag to these self-centered, uncaring, neglectful, people. Smh
@@Paulysacs So?! This weapon/pistol they bought him, was a semiautomatic 9M! Capable of discharging many rounds quickly!!! This was my point❗️ Why did he need this type of arsenal?!
No matter what our opinions are, the only opinion that matters is the jury’s opinion. The jury got it right. There was overwhelming evidence that proved how grossly negligent and careless these parents were. The defense attorney did her client no favors.
You claim that the only "onion" (you spelled opinion wrong) that matters is the jurors yet the very NEXT sentence you offer your own opinion by saying they got it right. Please stay consistent thank you.
Remember that several of the jury members are gun owners! That tells me they are responsible gun owners and parents! God bless them for putting the children's lives first rather than the rights to purchase guns!❣️🙏🇺🇲
That was really ignorant, some of the jurors are gun owners really half the United States or more are gun owners, and we all have a brain in our head with common sense shame on you
MAYBE are responsible parents MAYBE NOT but is sending a message that no matter what lives can get ruined. Lessons, lessons, lessons to learn for the USA citizens
@InteriorDesignStudent, you're so right! I was skeptical myself that the charges would result in a trial for the parents, but I think there was just sooooo much evidence that came to light during their investigation. I believe justice was served as well.
@user-ph4pc4mg7z thugs with jail free card because not their fault, parents fault, while parents put in jail, people sleeping in tents and shitting on the street while illigals free hotel rooms and credit cards, billions over to Ukraine to fight a lost war to the last dead Ukrainian and pockets full of money, sending weapons and money to Israel to commit genocide, a country where working people can't afford to eat and house without two full time jobs, as it should be, this is our great country with such holier than thou people
@bdubs532 look around you and see the nasty our country has become with holier than thou naive people like you, millions sent to a hopeless war that is killing Ukrainians to the last dead, arms sent to Israel to kill thousands of children, our citizens sleeping and shitting in the street while money cards and hotels for the million coming over our border, thugs getting a out of jail free card, while you all holier than thou people want to put a mother in jail for 15 years for what her son did, you'll caused our countries downfall with your ignorance
This child was raised by horrible parents who did not even care that he was mentally ill! They bought him a gun instead of a therapist! All parents who neglect and abuse their kids should be held accountable!!!
Congrats Shannon! You set a precedent for the worst mom ever. This isn't actually a precedent. Child abuse and criminally negligent behavior has always been illegal. Giving your minor a gun has been illegal. Gross NEGLIGENCE SHOULD he held legally against the parents. Rarely will a parent be this negligent. But if they are, THEY NEED TO GO TO JAIL. 4 KIDS ARE DEAD! The parents knew FAR MORE than the school. IT'S NOT HISTORIC!! This behavior of the parents has always been illegal! Give a kid a super fast car, it's reasonably foreseeable he's going to drive fast!!
So if a minor kills someone in an accident we should jail their parents for giving them the car? A kid I went to high school with killed his sister with his dad's gun. What's the difference between that and this? His dad was a Troy cop. She's a shitty parent but doesn't belong in prison.
A gun is quite different than a car. He put the gun literally to the head of at least one other person, and he was sure he or she would be dead very shortly. How many people in this world could do that?
How many parents are looking at their kids tonight and saying : "shape up! I'm not going to prison for you!" Remember when tv would sign off at 11 PM with the star spangled banner and asking : " Parents, do you know where your children are?"
Guns are not toys and mental health is not a joke!!! Parents need to open their eyes and start taking their every responsibility more seriously (on and off line).
Shouldn't public schools teach about relationships, parenting, family, mental illness signs, responsibility, get help if parents won't etc instead of some of the worthless stuff they teach?
Tell me you didn't watch the trial without telling me you didn't watch the trial. Had these parents been best friends with this kid, it would've changed everything.
if they were his friend he probably wouldn't have done what he did instead they were his bullies and enablers! Did you hear the part where he told them he was struggling and they laughed at him, and then bought him a freaking gun for his birthday!
He was seeing demons throwing things around the house and begging his parents for help, the drawing with the words saying blood everywhere please help me was heartbreaking.he was told to suck it up and even laughed at.he had one friend to talk to who then left his area and he had been telling him that he’s asked his parents to get him help and had even thought of taking himself to hospital. If they had gotten their son the help he desperately needed then this terrible thing may never have happened. They neglected their son so badly and cared only about themselves and when she said she wouldn’t change a thing that she did said all we needed to know about who she is. She should’ve been charged with child neglect as well
It was absolutely mind blowing that she thought she could get on the stand and say those texts were his way of playing around….then also say that there were no signs of mental health issues. Talk about a bad parent…wow
Oh my God that defense attorney reminded me of some bobblehead I cannot even believe somebody would give her a law degree she was a little girl she was so childish and Petty
NEVER EVER BUY YOUR CHILD A GUN JUST BECAUSE THEY ASK.. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR AWARE THAT THEY HAVE PROBLEMS. THEY WERE TO BUSY WITH THERE OWN LIVES TO EVEN NOTICE OR. CARE SMH!!!!!
It was probably more a case of having to go to work & not wanting to put up with his bs antics which at first seemed like his usual behaviour - until it wasn't & she refused to believe in mental health issues - to her detriment. Buying the gun is a mute point - they had their own guns in that house which he could have used
I'm glad she is found guilty, she and her husband failed to their child and the death of 4 beautiful teens and the pain and suffering of so many families and the community. I can't believe that she is saying now that there is nothing she would change if given the opportunity .........how how????
YESSSSSSS LET’S GOOOOOOOOO The jury got it right. Don’t neglect your kids. The parents failed their son on so many levels. Maybe lock up your guns too, with the cable lock, ammo stored separately, and actually change the case’s code instead of leaving it at the default 000, and this wouldn’t happen. If your child is reaching out for mental health care, get them the help they need, rather than laughing it off like the Crumbley’s did. Parents are responsible for their children’s actions until they are 18. This is for the best. It all starts with the parents.
I hope the public majority understands how big a step this is for common sense gun safety laws. This sets a precedent that should have been there to begin with. If you own a gun, it is your responsibility as an adult to keep it locked. Especially when there is a child in your home who has told you they hear voices.
The same should be if you own a car, chain saw, machete, kitchen knives, etc! It is about having the relationship with their child first! He was clearly secondary & Mom was more interested in finding other men to hook up with & riding her horses drunk! Parent's who parent by leaving their children home alone from a young age playing violent video games, target practice, etc. Then to give that child hard liquor & prescription drugs when he cries for help! That's the issue, not the tool they armed him with!
Big step for common sense laws? Gun laws violating the second amendment arent needed, jumped on by democrats because one dumb, incompetent woman and husband didn't parent well and didn't notice the sons mental issues.
The law has always been the same whether is a 15 year-old school shooter or a 3 year-old finding his parents unsecured weapon and killing themselves and their siblings. Parents are always held criminally responsible for what their minor children do with their unsecured gun.
Her saying she "wouldn't have done anything differently" sealed her fate. Her lack of empathy and remorse also sealed her fate, but the fact she doubled down on her actions and said she wouldn't change anything is crazy. I audibly gasped when I heard her say that. Even if you feel that way, what on earth would possess you to admit it in front of the jury?
@@DeeAnderson-oj2hr agree! She could have said something like - obviously I didn't think his troubles would result in this horrific situation, but knowing what I know now and what has come to light about things I wasn't aware of, of course I would do things differently.
As a parent, I agree!! IMO she set him up to do that so he would go to prison and she could be free... SELFISH. Didn't consider this part lmao. Any caring parent, even if innocent, would be riddled with guilt. 5 victims in this case :( PARENTS: Care for your children, and if you're not okay, GET HELP so that you can be there for them.
This isn't about the tool he used, it's about the results of gross parental neglect then arming him with a potentially dangerous tool! Have had them in our home for more than 60 yrs & they never jumped up & hurt anyone! Dang handy when self defense is needed though! Just had a neighborhood shoot out, because 3 armed thugs were breaking into homes & got stopped by a wise home owner! 1 shot & arrested at hospital, 2 on the loose! We have an invasion at our border, we better understand why we have our Constitutional Rights & do all to keep them! Or no one is safe! But parents have a responsibility to their children, including emotional needs! They created it, ignored all red flags, then armed it with a dangerous tool! It's not the tools fault!
Agreed. None of this is happening by accident people. But I agree they were totally negligent. If parents know their child is disturbed and still don't take his concerns seriously, then provide him with tools he shouldn't have, it should be common sense that's a very bad idea. Especially when the school called her in and she didn't see a huge red flag. However, this is not just cut a dried, why this is happening. It makes me furious when 2A parents do such things because they will use it as a justification to take away more of our rights and freedoms. Let's say they didn't get him the tool. I believe he would've tried to get one some other way. There is a disturbing lack of boundaries and discipline, plus not being involved enough in your children's lives. BuIIying isn't taken seriously enough, I pulled one of my own kids out of school because of it. Some thing is very, very wrong and we have to look at what's behind the bigger picture.. We were raised many years ago with the same tools. We never in any world would have touched them without permission, and were taught how to properly and safely handle them. We didn't have these horrible incidents happening back then. Never. Not once. So we have to ask ourselves why this is happening and whose policies are causing such a lack of control over people's own children.
When my sister decided to try and commit suicide, to me that meant that she didn’t care about privacy anymore, so I read it. She survived but I had a much better understanding of was happening, what she was up to, etc… it turned out to be really important.
This is proof that our system of justice works. While no verdict will bring these four beautiful souls back, this decision sends a loud and clear message in holding parents accountable for their actions.
1. He’s hearing voices 2. His dog died 3. His only friend moved away suddenly 4. The gun safe had the default code You get called to the school because he’s got this disturbing drawings on the math work sheet She … never mentions 1-3 at the meeting. Then leaves him at the school. My God; so cruel. Do you wish it had been different-I wish we had been shot? How about, I wish I’d gotten him help; I wish I’d have rushed him to the ER for urgent help. Even her remorse was NARCISSISTIC! I’m hopeful he’s getting mental health now.
It comes down to how much she knew about his struggles up to the shooting. Had she taken him home as requested that day would it have been prevented? This doesn’t mean every parent will be charged. It’s about securing your weapon properly and thinking of your child over yourself. After hearing everything and seeing the drawing and not mentioning the gun? Bothered me If only fear of self harm. So pay attention to change in behaviors, isolation, no longer wanting to socialize with family, hallucinations, questionable drawings. And secure your weapon properly! You can’t prevent it from happening every time but if you’ve done all you can , maybe it can help. Lots of kids hide things well but this kid didn’t !
100% agree. For me it all comes down to seeing that drawing and doing nothing. That alone made a tragedy foreseeable. Whether he used a gun to kill others or took a handful of pills to commit suicide that paper made tragedy completely foreseeable.
She knew exactly the kind of kid he was. I keep going back to the texts where he was telling her he was hearing voices. The kid clearly had issues and she chose to not only do nothing to address it, but give him a gun as a Christmas present. I applaud the jury for correctly convicting this unapologetic stupidity.
This woman/ Mom bought the gun for a “gift” for her under age son with mental issues that he told her about! She ignored what he said to her and his Dad. The night before the shooting, he had hallucinations and they locked him outside for their safety!! She knew he was struggling.
America just improved the economy with this result. You are going to need more jails for all of the parents working 3 jobs and 'neglecting their children'.
unbelievable that her nor the school searched his back pack the day he drew the picture about shooting the school… they did mention that the bag was heavy but failed to look in it!! that school needs sued also
I don't see how anyone can disagree with this. Why on earth would you give a 15 year old a gun? Even disregarding all his mental issues, giving him a gun is stupid
Very good reporting and synopsis by young reporter. The jury did see through Jennifer's lies/contradictions. They got it right. GUILTY on all 4 counts. Lady Justice prevails
Her guilty verdict is basically the fact that the gun was available to their minor son without supervision. That's what gives her guilt. His mental issues are an aggravating factor combined with their neglect, which are secondary factors. The lesson is, if you own guns BE RESPONSIBLE!!! LOCK UP YOUR GUNS IF YOU HAVE MINORS (18 and under).
The school should be held accountable as well. The people who called the parents with their concerns, the people who saw the horrible drawings in his backpack that basically showed what he was going to do. So many people failed that day.
Say what you will, but if either one of the parents had mentioned buying the gun for Ethan when they all met with school officials, knowing what they knew about Ethan and having been shown the drawings he had done in class, surely the tenor and substance of that meeting would have been much more serious. They knew they had given him the gun and ammunition and at least one of them knew the gun was not locked up properly because they never changed the numeric combination of the gun lock from the default setting of 0000. I can't imagine that learning Ethan had been given a gun and ammunition four days earlier and knowing what he had been drawing wouldn't have prompted a look inside his backpack.
It’s just amazing to me that the prosecution called 21 witnesses and the defense really thought that calling 1 person, Jennifer Crumbly, to the stand to pretty much say “yeah everyone else is lying but me” was a solid strategy…
We live in a cruel society where children can be even crueler!! Bullying and alienation happens amongst all ages but especially so in high schools..I know my children are confident and good looking and I feel therefore popular amongst their peers because of this and I've always been thankful for that.. because we all know how the less than esthetically pleasing and yes sometimes "weird" labeled children can suffer, regardless of the love and affection given by the parents.. yes Justin's dad says that he would have been a friend to the shooter but was he?? How do we as parents combat this prejudice and how can we prevent the consequences of these deep wounds ??
I agree that both parents should be held accountable for ignoring the cries for help. But the school officials were in the wrong as well. They should have insisted he leave and not return. The principal, being in charge, should be charged as well.
these people (parents) had the chance to take him home....before anyone was killed.....AFTER seeing the pictures knowing he had a gun they did not take him home, then she lied about what happened at the meeting with the principal and THEN when asked if she would do anything different SHE SAID NO !!! four kids were killed and she would do nothing differently !!!
@ObamAmerican What is precedent-setting about holding people accountable for their crimes? I guess it’s unusual for a white woman to actually be held accountable, but other than that, CRIMES were committed by these parents. They were not charged with their son’s crimes. They were charged with THEIR crimes that facilitated their son’s crimes. Nothing new or revolutionary here.
It’s unfortunate that this whole tragedy even took place. The whole thing was foreseeable by many people I feel. But hopefully all parents of future generations are watching this case and are more aware of the consequences we as parents could face if we are not raising responsible, respectful and decent human beings .
In this case the parents of a mentally unstable boy was allowed access to firearms resulting in the death of 4 people. While I have to agree with the guilty verdict Jennifer Crumbley received and knowing this case sets a precedent. I cannot help but ask or wonder will this precedent end up being abused in future cases. I mean after all these days kids, young people, children, whatever you want to call them do the craziest things for little to no reason.
I think Americans should be careful about supporting parental responsibility for crimes. Where could that lead? Your son gets charged with stealing a car and you get charged because you bought him a copy of GTA!? Scary
What precedent would that be? White people being held accountable for their crimes? I think we can agree that’s a GOOD thing. Don’t misrepresent what happened here. Their son was convicted of murder, because THAT’s the crime he committed. The parents committed crimes of their own that put the weapon in his hands. He literally could not have committed his crime without his parents committing THEIR crimes.
GUILTY!! The jury got it right! As a parent you're responsible for what you're children are doing! Time to step up to your parental responsibilities, PERIOD
So what is the threshold...if you were a deadbeat parent who abandoned their child will they be held responsible for the child's actions?? I think it's ridiculous
