This was my first ever kit. Christmas’88. Sadly was stolen in the mid 90’s. Then, Christmas ‘08 my wife gave me a bnib kit. Now built as a shelf queen. One of the best shapes ever….
Great video Keith. I like the periodic non scripted getting up and grabbing items, it keeps it real. I like the body, it’s maybe a function of my age and what I grew up watching and seeing at car shows / air shows. Have a great day. 😊
Thanks for sharing, another wish list car that never came to be due to fund availability back in the day. Definitely a joy to watch and glad to know I’m not the only one still spending time under the table during a build. 😊
When I was 14 this was on my list of top 5 Tamiya’s I wanted to own after getting my king cab for my birthday/Xmas I never did get to buy one I moved away from the UK and didn’t return to Rc until 2019 sadly getting one of these is very difficult 😞 but great to see you build one in the show ❤
I love the look of this buggy!! I really like the body shell, the color scheme and not seeing shock sticking up all over is cool!! Very cool build and I am looking forward to seeing it finished up and running around a little!!!
@@AddamsPlayground my Wednesday vids are usually unboxing or running so I have 6 months of winter to get through. I honestly do not see myself buying a whole lot as I am over 400 now. I still have 10 kits coming from Kenny but my unboxing vids are usually 4 or more at a time so I want a lot of running footage to carry the channel through.
@@rcicons4915 hold on while I pick my jaw up off the floor!! 😂 If you run out you can just start grabbing some off the shelves and talking about them, where you got them, what the plans or memories of it are and just share that as well. You have so many cool ones there you don't see too often. There is plenty of content over there!
Oh man Tamiya are AWESOME. There is almost no other RC manufacturers apart from probably Kyosho and maybe Schumacher that do this with packaging. But Tamiya is absolutely legendary LEGENDARY with their packaging and the box art, in fact nobody else comes close.even today their are arm couple of special kits available that still use this style of presentation being the Egress black edition and the Avante black edition .Then theirs also the Porsche Valiant 45 anniversary kit and maybe a couple of others. Even their regular production kits are still very special and still use that spectacular box art. And even Tamiya plastic model kits , static model kits not RC cars still are packaged in this way with the awesome box art. There is not too many other manufacturers doing this. And anybody wanting a Super Sabre you are in luck because Tamiya is re releasing this kit this year in 2023 should already be out now in Europe and England and North America and here in Australia will be released before Christmas 2023. It will be a trimmed body shell and pre painted silver but otherwise it's almost identical but with an ESC not mechanical speed control. Enjoy guys and girls 👍👌
@@rcicons4915 the white wedge 😂 I’m not sure if the mono shock made ant difference, but it looked cool and that’s all that mattered. Looking forward to the build.
This and the Hotshot II from my childhood and sold when I got married for pennies and hoping so much that they are re released one day so I can own once again! 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸 Awesome video btw!
Keith l was like you and started with the basic stuff and that was the Brat in my case and took a time to finally get my hands on a 4WD Tamiya and was lucky enough one birthday to get a new boomerang that I raced back in the day and was full of passion for all the shots but when the Sabre came out l really didn't feel much for it, l suppose it was like this buggy was a little too late to the shots party! The thing just didn't do it for me and of course next up and a little later on the Thunder shot would of lined up against it too! but damn love it now mate the Super Sabre is a super super cool buggy and really as you said Keith the last of the absolutely legendary shots family! Then the Thunder Shot kicked off a new family tree! Man l love hobby!!!🤩🤩🤩 Great stuff a again buddy cheers James.
Thank you. It is so much better in person. I still look at the box and really get no excitement out of it. The built car on the other hand, wow, does it look good!
Great build vid Keith, super sabre never got my full attention. Boomerang and Bigwig always won. Still got a bigwig, boomerang was always easier to mod than the hotshot cos the chassis is so tight for brushless and lipos 😎👍👍 love the steering setup on my Bigwig tho 🤩👍👍
The rack and pinion is awesome. I wish they had used it on other cars but no. I also love the Boom and Bigwig. Will be building them both in the future.
This was my first race buggy I used back in 1988. I loved it. It was a great car. Obviously I was always beaten by the like of the Schumacher XLS and the Optima's of the day! I sold the Super Sabre to buy a PB Mini Mustang! Gonna sit back and enjoy the video! Thumbs up!!
Thanks for the video, but my inner Monk can´t ignore that the video title says "Tamiya Super Saber", but on the box stands in big letters "Super Sabre"!
Hi Keith, I think the Super Sabre is a great looking kit. Tamiya need to re-release this kit so that I can be first in the queue for one! If anyone needs proof, see Glenn's post, he's got the right idea too! Love the Hotshot range of kits too. I'm looking forward to seeing you complete this kit. Keep them coming Keith. 👍ATB Darren.
Thank you. I knew Glenn would say that. I know this car is in his Top 10 Tamiya cars. I would love to see them rere it. I think it is going to happen and soon.
Great build of a interesting kit Keith👍 Tamiya should re-re it,they would make a healthy profit i am sure,I would throw my money on them without thinking twice🤣😋
There is a company in South Korea that makes all kind of alloy wheels for Tamia and Kyosho. They make a set that would look great like you said. I ended up painting the wheels silver and it looks amazing.
So the HotShot has a different chassis but the gearboxes are the same. That is why they are in the same family. The boomerang chassis is identical. I think they are both great in their own way. Thank you for watching.
Sweet build, and I am super interested in the Boomerang, back then my Ballraced Boomerang was a force to be recconed with, love that car! Cheers for all you do mate, from this Aussie in China!
Nice buggy and i prefer this over the boomerang for looks, hope they re release this as i would buy one.The bigwig is a unique build with the rack and pinion steering and have built a re re and love it.Looking forward to seeing these great kits built.
Good score. The Super Saber, never did much for me, for some reason the same chassis as the Boomerang did, go figure. Edit: I bought an aftermarket axial thrust bearing for where the center drive shaft engages with the rear gearbox. I think it helps reduce drag.
Great video. So nice seeing it new in box. One of my favourites. Managed to pick up all the parts to build one with a repro body. May do a custom painted shell too cause all those panels lines are tempting. 👍🏼
I hear you their. The body does have great shape to it. That is great that you were able to get a parts kit together. I have done that with a few cars.
Great Buggy. I’m very lucky to own a very nice original never run built one of these. Previous owner brushed painted with the old PS paint. I wonder if we will see a re re?
This is one of the few Tamiya buggies that do nothing for me. It's nice enough but just doesn't excite me. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see yours completed!
A Winger is a body set that Tamiya did back in 86. It is a body and decal set that you bought and it would go on a Boomerang chassis. They did the blue Saint Dragon, super dragon and Dash Emperor as well for the Thundershot family cars. Very rare now. I have an original Winger set from Tamiya that I am going to use. TBG does the shell and MCI does the decals so you see them done here and there but not usually original stuff.
Yep He is on eBay. You can contact him through his stores. Go to my about section of the channel. You will see my email. Message me with Kenny in the subject and I will send you his store names.
@@rcicons4915 Sorry, I'm just so used to saying that. It is one of the few I longed after as a child and has stuck with me. I run XV01's and an XV02 and love them so I dont really need a Boomerang but still dream.
Buggy wise I have a DT03 for fun but I guess similar to you if i got a Boomerang I would just want to build it then only run once. Well mabye 3 or 4 times ha Thats the reason I have never bought a pre built one and I can't afford NIB so come on Tamiya... That said even if they did would be a push to get one, I'm just happy with the cars I have.
@@pedrosolenoid2898 lol, I have runners outside my collection. Those get beet up for sure. My collection is just that. A collection. I run them once basically for the viewers. Sometimes for me if it is a car I haven’t run in the past.
