In this video I do full tillage on a field that i'm growing roundup ready corn for a deer hunting food plot. This same field had a roundup ready corn food plot last year, but unfortunately due to the mild winter temperatures and an abundance of white oak acorns the deer hit the corn plot very little. This left a huge problem for this year as all the leftover corn was now roundup ready and could not be killed by my traditional corn chemical program. So I opted for full tillage and work the soil 3 different times before planting.

Round up ready Alfalfa works great the variety depends on the deases in your area Like soybean rust.

I always use roundup ready alfalfa, it’s expensive but it’s 100% worth it in my opinion. As far as exact varieties, Caroll is exactly right, I go to my local coop and get roundup ready alfalfa that is sold in my area. Thanks for watching and good luck with the plot

I have a 1 acre corn field that I have planted I sprayed no chemical I was wondering if later in the year I could broadcast in it to grow for the deer to eat

Absolutely! I broadcast into my standing corn plots every year, brassicas in thin spots, and cereal grains and annual clovers when I make shooting paths. Thanks for watchinf

The farm right next to my property put in a 56 acre soybean field. Deer are already hitting those soybeans fairly hard. As the Plot Professor what would you plant with that situation? Or possibly just wait and plant a fall food plot? Thanx…

Clark, that all depends on what you’re looking for. If you wanted year around nutrition, the 56 acre soybean field will provide ample groceries and great high protein groceries at that all spring summer and early fall. I don’t know your current situation but I would plant something that fills a void. Spring, summer is completely covered in your area now…i would focus on fall and winter plots.

Great info Sir ! I am doing my first food plot in Southwest VA. 1 acre good ground just wondering can you mix Soybeans with clover? We have a lot of clover around and other hunters have standing corn. What would you suggest? Great job and keep up the great work!!!!

Thanks for the support! You certainly can mix them together when planting at the same time, and also plant in the summer as the clover is not growing as fast because of the summer temperatures, however I typically don’t plant perennial clovers together with soybeans. You can easily broadcast annual clovers into many different food plots in the fall to add more variety. Thanks for watching and good luck with the plots
