Please...the logistics video.🌹 Keeping up with Visa changes, receiving OTP, use of ATMs, transfer funds via certain apps., on-going ticket requirements. Thanks so much for all that you do ❤
Your money separation makes perfect sense. That was good information for a couple traveling. I really enjoy your videos. Our life doesn’t allow travel the way you do, so I do it through you guys. Thanks for bringing me along and maybe the future will allow us to do it. We spent a month in France and loved doing travel that way.
When you travel it shows approximately when you travel but it would be better when watching for us if you can tell us the month that you travel so helpful for us weather wise. Thanks keep up the great work!
Found that so interesting and informative - you are a great couple 😊 As a newcomer to your channel I look forward to watching your past videos as well as keeping up with current. Thank you so much for sharing.
Great video and format. I watch them all and enjoy how you create and deliver information. Thanks for your straight forward honesty too ! Doesn’t sound like you’re busking. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on all the cameras and technology to do RU-vid but after traveling decided it was too much work, being a solo senior, and felt I was missing out on just the pleasure of being there. The videos are in the can. Happy you have figured out how to make it work and enjoyable.
Thank you so much, we are Happy to hear you enjoy them. It is balance mixing work on RU-vid in while still fully enjoying the location so are at. And, yes, much easier when the work can be divided. Thanks so much for watching and following along. Cheers!!
Great video, thanks so much. One statement got my attention. 'In case you have an emergency at home, and you need to hop on a plane, make sure, that you have a little pool of money set aside.' Let me add: 'Make sure that you have a little pool of miles/points set aside.' Whereas last minute one ways paid with money can be outrageously expensive, award tickets can be available last minute at a very decent rate. And, it's a great hobby, actually my only hobby.
I appreciate the insurance information very much. Waiting for kids to get through high school and one year of transitioning to retirement travel. Your information is very helpful! You put Romania on our list!
We are not married and have traveled the world extensively over the last 23 years. We have been in dirt-floor airport terminals waiting for hours in the South Pacific etc and find that the most important factor in successful travel is being happy with the person sitting next to you and enjoying all the conversations you have not had with them yet. Unless you edit those portions out you guys seem to have it locked.
"Enjoying conversations, you have never had with them yet" is very well said!! Thank you for watching and commenting!! Safe travels and Happy New Year! ❤
I feel as if I’ve watched you from day one😁 it’s been so fun to watch your channel grow and yet the entire time you’ve stayed the same fun approachable friendly adventurers who have maintained the heart of your channel. If life would stop throwing me curveballs I’ll get out there too; until then I’ll live vicariously through you. Happy New Year! Stay safe, adventure on👍👏🏻✌️🤙🙏
Thank you so much, we appreciate hearing that. Hopefully the curveballs stop so you can start your travel adventure. Thanks so much for following along - Cheers!!
THANK YOU both so much for making the choice NOT to do sponsored videos! That adds a level of trust for the things you personally use and recommend. We’re so happy we found your YT channel … SO informative and fun to watch! ❤ Hoping to be full-time travelers ourselves by 2027! 🤞
We are RU-vid consumers also and find them annoying too!! 😁 They ruin the video that we worked so hard to produce! We are happy that you found us!! Cheers!! 🍻
I loved going to Peru as my first South America trip - it actually ties as my favourite spot with Istanbul. It was extremely affordable, I felt very safe as a solo female traveler, the people are so warm and welcoming, there are a variety of cultures and ecosystems, and there is so much to learn about the knowledges and histories of the people indigenous to each area. I loved staying in Cusco, and I think you would both love it. Lima was a very clean city for a capital. And honestly, I loved my stay in the Peruvian Amazon and can’t wait to go back. Peru was so much more than just the touristy areas like Machu Picchu - there is so much to explore. And the food was pretty good with unique cuisines and flavour profiles.
We've heard so many great things about Peru. We will for sure be looking at it more when we plan out our trip to that area. Thank you so much for the great tips.
When you go to S America, make sure you go to the Salt flats in Uyuni, Bolivia. I’ve seen videos there & it’s definitely on my bucket list. I think Jan-Mar is rainy season & you gotta go then for the reflections.
Such great questions and answers, and looking forward to the logistics and over/underrated locations vids as well. I try to read most of the comments under your vids, always pick up new info and thoughts, but handy to have them all together! Ended up watching in the afternoon so no pajamas, but enjoying with slippers and hot tea! 😊 Now off to Q&A #2 … 🙌
Long videos to watch back-to-back!! That is quite the commitment, thank you!! 😀Enjoy the hot tea and slippers sounds good to me! Happy New Year and thank you again for the support. Cheers!!🍻
Has the writers strike affected your productions? 😂 I guess you’re keeping that guy that plays Brian for the foreseeable future; especially now that he’s the editor!
Happy New Year to the dynamic duo. Your videos just get better and more thought provoking. My husband and I also do not co-mingle assets and keep finances separate. I love hearing you say this as many think this is a bit out there. I can't wait for the underrated and overrated places you visited video. Wishing you an amazing and adventure filled 2024. 💖
Thank you! We will be doing a video covering the logistics of full-time travel very soon where we will go more into depth on this subject and what your options are. Cheers!
I checked your website and didn't find any links to download spreadsheets. I KNOW you guys have a specific spreadsheet for cost projection, planning and budgeting your travel. I wanna see it! I NEED to see it!
Yeah same here would love RU-vid long term plan. Perhaps when I get into my fifties we can put the brakes on. We are heading to Iceland for the ring road trip.
Your videos are so informative. Thanks. Do want to know about logistics -applying for Visas, insurance, VPN, etc. You have the advantage of being from US. I'm from South Africa - lengthy and complicated process
Great question! We didn't cover that one, but I can share our experience so far. Brian does need a inhaler for asthma and has had that filled in many countries. The pharmacys have all been incredibly helpful and most time just need to see his bottle. For any other prescription I would think a written script would work, as long as they have the med your looking for.
I nearly fell off the sofa when Carrie stated her age! 🎉 I do have a question you may consider answering…. Carrie, if you were on your own, where in Europe would you hang your hat?
Great question! I would easily choose Portugal. We've been here now 3 times and love it. I would feel completely comfortable if I were choosing this area to settle by myself or as a couple. Thanks so much for watching 😊
Thank you for your honesty about ads !!! Your advice is great ! One thing I think that you both have that makes it work is that you both are relaxed people who don't seem to get stressed out and work well with each other !!! That may seem obvious but to travel even for a a few weeks, that is really important !!! SO glad you guys are living out your dreams. Hopefully you will be traveling to Egypt, or other EPIC places that you haven't gone to yet.....at least I don't think you've been to Egypt....maybe South America ???
Thank you for the kind words! We feel very lucky to have found each other! We have not been to Egypt yet, but hopefully someday soon. South America is on schedule for this year. We will be doing a video on our upcoming plans soon. Thank you again for commenting and for watching our channel! Cheers!!🍻
Great video. You've probably answered this in one of your other videos. However, I haven't heard that one yet. The question is, how much do you budget for your travel? Thanks
I missed your relationship. I heard the part where you said you each keep your own finances, and separate from one another. Are you related? Siblings, spouses, or significant others? Just curious, I just got married and we are an older couple, trying to figure out our finances. Thanks for all your wonderful traveling experiences!
Hi! We are a couple, not married. For us, splitting finances works best. We've heard many dynamics all across the board and it's just one of those areas each couple finds what works best for them. Thanks so much for watching 😊
Excellent Q & A video, B & C! Thank you so much! Look forward to your part B. question that comes to mind would you recommend a solo female traveling the world like you do at 65?
Weird and strange marriage you guys have in terms of finances. I guess it's a very western kind of approach. My money/ your money. Dutch all the way. Thanks for your honesty.
We did both sell homes and do use a small amount to help subsidize our monthly living costs. It may be in our part 2 Q&A Saturday where we touch on that a bit more. Cheers!!
Many thanks for sharing all your answers with us, very informative. We are looking at possibly relocating from the US to Portugal which is how I first came across your channel a few months ago. I have followed all your videos since then and it has given us food for thought about just travellng more without relocating. Looking forward to your part 2 Q&A.
Thanks for all your videos we love watching them and feel your travel style is realistic and relatable, great job! Just wondering if you check a bag when you travel or only use a carry-on (or backpack)?
Great question. Carrie uses a HP Spectra and I use the Asus Zenbook for all the editing. If you plan to do video editing don't cheap out and buy something that you think will do. Thats what I originally did and had to upgrade to the Zenbook.
Hey Carrie and Brian, love the channel and your insightful/honest vlogs. I’m similar age/situation as you both, and intend to break free and travel in 2024. I’m curious if you think long-term traveling will be easier or more difficult being that I’m single? Cheers from NY!✌🏻😃
We don't think it would be more difficult but may be more expensive. We split the cost of small accommodations. There are really nice hostels if that is something that you could do. Thank you for watching and safe travels!! Cheers!!🍻
I found cheap tickets to Buenos Aires from Miami on Argentinian Air. We are doing the cruise from BA to Santiago in February. Happy Holidays and safe travels.
Start to finish great video... Agree 98 percent....lol. We found that being home is more stressful... Self inflicted trying to race around seeing everyone and making sure no one has hurt feelings.. We need to get better at planning a few extra weeks for a home visit... We're heading out in six days until July.... If you do South America next fall maybe we'll link up..... Sharing your video on FB as many people all us all these questions.... Safe travels, Merry Christmas and happy New year.. Larry and Minnie
It amazes me on how similar our lives are. We are the same age as you guys and we are traveling to many of the same places. We live on the other side of the mountains from Bellingham and we are flying out of SeaTac Monday for 3 months traveling to Thailand and Vietnam then home for a few weeks and then traveling for 6 months. I can’t wait to meet you two one day and share a beer or a glass of wine! Keep up the great work. Merry Xmas and have a great new year!
Not even all the way through it, but what a great video - thank you for it. Yeah, so here I am after my first month of two in Crete, my first stop on my full-time travel journey. (Loving it!) I chose Crete because I know Crete and just needed a place to decompress after my four months of visiting everyone I love in the States and saying goodbye. I mean, it was lovely, but very emotionally draining. As a single dude with no kids and no living parents, I don't plan to be back in America very often, certainly not yearly. Your perspective on Montenegro vs. Albania was very helpful, as I was thinking of one or the other after here, but I've about decided on February in Istanbul. Concerning planning for places to visit, I think I'll continue doing what I did on my long goodbye tour, which is not deciding where I'll be months out. I like getting somewhere and then deciding where next; I know myself well enough to know I have no idea where I'll want to be six month from now, except in a general sense. I mean, I suspect I'm going to want to be in northern Europe this summer, but I do not know that, and I refuse to decide, yet. Anyway, thanks again. I really love your channel. It's very helpful and somewhat validating. Enjoy your time back home. Xaviotes (not my real name) P.S. Have you heard of this word I found recently? Coddiwomple - to travel in a purposeful manner toward a vague destination. It's my favorite new word and life plan, for now.
It seems that we plan our next destination in less time than we used to. We may have an idea, but we enjoy the flexibility. Coddiwomple! I'll be using that!!!😄Thank you for watching and supporting our channel and safe travels!! Cheers!!🍻
Also, wanted to note. “Mick and Trudie “ do GREAT videos all over Turkey !!! They live there and have a lot of great knowledge if you are heading back there. Take care ! Suzanne & Dave
I know you said you will avoid Ecuador but if you end up going check out Cuenca. It’s a laidback city that is very expat friendly. My mom is from Ecuador and I never felt unsafe there.
That is good to know. Ecuador had been on our list for some time. We will eventually get there. Thank you for the insight and for watching our channel. ❤ Cheers!!🍻
Two Netflix recommendations and one VERY important question: "Lunana: a Yak in the Classroom" and "Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones" Both are not obviously travel shows, but they both have amazing scenery and fascinating cultural content. They both have a colon in the title too. Now for the VERY important question: When will we see the return of the pineapple shirt?
Great suggestions...we've watched the blue zone one, which was so interesting, but will have to check out the other. Haha... The pineapple shirt needs tropical surroundings, hopefully it shows itself soon 🙂
Great informational video !!! I begin my journey Feb 1….. I “knew” what I wanted to do prior to finding your channel; but now I have so much more knowledge and a true idea of what I am getting in to…. Keep up the good “work” but never lose sight of the enjoyment…
Do you need to always have the next leg of your "Nomading" around planned when you enter a country? I know when we travel now we have to always have to disclose that destination at passport control
You speak a lot of "mine' instead of we. Are the both of you married? Great info that you shared. I was wondering what were your jobs that you had before you quit? Wishing you a peaceful time at home
Carrie went too fast when discussing her medical plan. And I think she was assuming w head some knowledge already. Do you have a more detailed and dumbed down video on the global health insurance tied into being able to come back to the states?
We don't currently feature a dedicated video on health insurance, it's a subject that varies greatly from person to person. Age, health status, and individual needs significantly influence insurance costs and coverage options. Cigna Globel has a plan that covers you while you return to the US for a limited stay.
Love your videos so much! Happy New Year to you and your families. I’m 51 and on my way to early retirement and FT travel, so all these videos are so very helpful and inspirational. Cheers ❤️
Thanks for a really informative video. I think the Q&A format would be a great addition after each travel location. I'm looking forward to part two. Enjoy your time at home. 😊
I appreciate all of the information provided in this video. You answered a number of questions that I have and seemingly spoke directly to situations in which I have found myself! Take care!
Hi, enjoy your Travel Channel, my wife and I are planning an extended stay in Portugal next year. We saw your Portugal videos and saw that you stayed in Lagos and and RVSA area. My question is we were thinking about staying a month in each place therefore what do you guys do for a full month in one location for example when you stay in Lagos, what did you do for a full month. Thanks for responding. appreciate it, Paul and Cecilia.
Hi Pual and Cecilla! You will find plenty to do in the Algarve to keep you busy. We would go on hikes or to the beach. It's fun to grab a drink a cafe by the marina. We would jump on the train and explore nearby towns. We have several videos out on Lagos and the rest of the Algarve for more ideas. We also have this RU-vid channel that occupies our time as a nice hobby. 😁
Hey Carri, I was wondering how old your grandchild is and how hard it was for you to be gone away from them all the time? I only have one 3 1/2 yr old grandson that I’m very close to. I see him every week & he spends every other weekend with/us. My husband is ready to travel (well once I can hopefully get my back pain problem fixed) & I just don’t really want to be away from him for so long until he’s older & “doesn’t want so much with me”… know what I mean? BUT I really want to travel too!!!
@@BrianandCarrie yeah me too… my children are 38 (the mom of my grandson ), & 33. My husband and I used to be truck drivers so we were gone all the time, but it’s really hard to leave this grand kid!
Funny about the comments about no arguments on your first trip, internationally. My wife and I travel internationally once a year. I travel a lot for work, so maneuvering around the airport is more natural for me. She gets excited (anxiety) with the airport hectic. I always try to stay calm. Love slow travel. Planning to start our slow travel journey in Europe with our dog after our youngest starts college in 3 years. Maybe and hopefully, we will run into each other.
I just don't get the we're a couple, but we pay 50/50. I respect your views, but I think that if you're truly committed - who pays more is never something you want to think about. Best of luck to you both. Happy travels!
To each their own, covering our own costs works for us. And, not sure how one would think that would effect how committed you are 😊. Thanks so much for watching! Cheers 🍻
Very good video by you both! I am a year away from retirement ( I am 53 years old from Canada) and I have been enjoying your channel for so much in planning before heading out on world travel. I was in South America for the first time last year, three weeks in the south of Brazil. I would highly recommend heading to the State of Santa Catarina, see Florianopolis and the surrounding cities. It is safe, the people are amazing, prices are good for a travelers on a budget, etc. I am sure you have done your research heading into a plan to see South America, but I would highly recommend it. Beaches, food, drink, etc. is amazing 🙂. stay safe and thanks again, Craig
Hello Brian and Carrie, My husband and I are about your age and hoping to retire sooner than later but are concerned about needing to use the rule of 55. Is full time travel allowing you to get to 59.5 without using the rule of 55? We would love to know how you are navigating that aspect of financial planning for life as full time travelers. Warm regards, Tamara & Jeff
Hi! Neither of us use the rule of 55, we both left our full time jobs when we were 50 and 51. We both budgeted enough to not have to touch savings for a set time to see if this lifestyle would be sustainable. After seeing how affordable it is we were confident we could manage until retirement age. Cheers!!
Thank you for your response! Can we ask how much you saved? We know you say it’s different for everyone based on the lifestyle they want but it would be really helpful to have a ballpark number to compare to what we have already saved at 48 & 50 years old. Because we would really like to retire before 55.
In Albania, I found the best market is the Italian shop 'Conad'. I'm very food particular and they had everything I needed for the 6 months that I was there. 🤓😁
I agree with you about Portugal ❤. We will go to Istanbul and Antalya and Greece in 25 because of your recommendation. Thx . I also enjoying the planning process of our trips. Thx for your videos! Keep on trucken and keep on rocken!
Just discovered your videos they are fantastic you are the best by far !! Great information and good fun to watch . Watching your Thailand Videos at mo and definitely going to travel there Solo but the information has really helped me how to plan the trip . Thank you both so much . Cant wait to see where you go next xx
CURIOUS what you did for work before you left to travel ? Did you have long careers doing one thing or various ? Did it include travelling a lot or is that something new for you ?
I was in beer and wine sales and Carrie worked as an assistant for the city that we are from. We did not have a lot of travel experience, so it was relatively new.
@@BrianandCarrie OK, got it ! I would have guessed you both were school teachers, you're so calm and collected ! Something needed for exploring other COUNTRIES ! PATIENCE ! What you guys are doing is not for the weak and disorganized ! Now we know where you got your love of beer !
@@BrianandCarrie Yesterday I remember the #1 thing you need when travelling and living in other people's aptos - A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR ! The Yarbros mention it in their videos, especially for Mexico. Numerous families have died in MX from LNG gas leaks. You go to sleep and never wake up ! One place to buy a portable battery operated unit is at RV stores or certainly online eBay etc.
Good question. We honestly don't have any right now that we watch for full time travel tips, but instead many on locations they've traveled. When we were looking to start traveling it seemed we had to search really hard for the cost videos and travel tips... Guess that's why we try hard to lean that way.
@@BrianandCarrie thank you so much! By the way, I am also from seattle and I am a solo traveler. I have been traveling fast because I am still working but I’m hoping to retire 5 yrs from now. I’ll be 52, and I plan will travel slow once I’m retired. Thanks!
Nope, we have a great relationship and travel very well together which we are thankful for. We typically meet people along our travels that we've met through RU-vid. Cheers!!
@@BrianandCarrie Sorry, on reflection I was a bit blunt. I was curious if you allowed 'me time' in your 24/7 schedule. Also, when I traveled, I recall learning much from locals on the street, hotel staff and vendors etc.
Yup. 50/50 is the best process!! Do you have a budget template for sale ! Are you going to Bali! Thank you. Been binge watching. I have 25 countries some multiple times in my pocket, but that’s over years of squeezing in annual vacations lol. ❤❤ deep bow to you both!
Hi. I wouldn't do a cruise myself in South America... You'll be bound by group travel schedule and cheat yourself out of great exploring opportunities (not tourist spots) only locals can tell you about while there, at the moment. Having lived in Peru on-off for years and traveled South America extensively I can say you'll need at least 3 months in Peru alone to take some of it in, in a meaningful way. BTW, while in Buenos Aires make sure to take Tango lessons. I know a couple spots there if you decide to do it.
You mentioned S. America. I’m Canadian and spent six months in Cuenca Ecuador and loved it. Many from the US have residency there, the weather is fabulous although the forecast is totally unreliable (it shows rain every day but it rarely rains). Taxis cost $1.50 a ride and everything is so cheap. Check out videos from Amelia and JP.
We watch Amelia and JP all the time! We will be heading to South America in January 2025 starting in Argentina and working our way North. Thank you for watching our channel!! ❤
It was a bit confusing w the answer in the Pt.1 video - could you clarify whether Carrie has Cigna Global (with US coverage) AND Safetywing? Or just the safetywing now instead of Cigna Global? We’re trying to figure out health insurance for coverage for sometime in the US and worldwide. Thank you! You two seem so down to earth. I love your videos for their unglossed honesty.
I (Brian) use Cigna Globel with US coverage. Carrie has insurance through WA. State and Safety Wings as secondary travel insurance. Thank you for the kind words and for watching our channel!! ❤ Cheers!!🍻
