I have a question what does it mean when my gorgonian coral turn green is it dying or shedding .. 😢 please help... ever coral in my tank looks good except that one.
Loving thre setup.....QQ .... is heat a problem with the Kessil? I'm looking at doing something very similar mounting wise. Would love to find out before I spent a fortune on the light.
Hi Sam. Love your videos. Question. Are you still using the Kamoer x2sr for awc? Or you using the x1? I have a long run I’m thinking of doing in a couple months and debating the two
Eh mate, gorgeous tank! Do you have any regrets with the 30 inch (76cm) depth of the display? If you could go back in time, would you go deeper, keep it the same or go shallower?
Great video - i notice you're not using the Reefbot Lab in the system, why is that? Just curious after you did an unboxing and setup vid a few months/years back... Cheers!
sorry just seen on the video I see you are getting 5 months out of it, do you think the large reef factory roller mat would be as good as I see you have the media sized on your CADE
I have a question, how does your side/front panes connect to the aluminum frame? I have an aluminum frame but cannot find any wood attachments that will allow me to remove the side panels…like yours.
I use T-nuts to secure some strips to the inside of the frame and then used standard hinges that screwed to that and then to the door. On the end panels I used connectors called "Keku" clips to allow the panels to clip on and off. You can see more information on this here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IE34b_KfhSw.htmlsi=tjesjFoUIuvl-tD3
Hey, are you using the auto aqua smart security sensors to turn off all your pumps ect? I’m thinking about switching all my gear over to reef factory so would their level sensor do he same thing?
I'm using the auto aqua smart security skimmer sensor for my continuous duty pumps yes. The reef factory level sensor could do the same, but we don't yet have the power switches from them here in Aus :/
Fantastic - love the high sal water change system It's very complex... not sure I could ever go that full on (even with the funds). What is a little strange to me is that you do Auto-water change plus reef moonshiners... in that - can't you just rely on the water change to keep things more or less balanced and then do an all in one trace (with maybe a couple of of important additions)? You have me thinking about my dream setup - think I'd be 1% a day autowater change, Kalk, trace, maybe AllForReef if necessary), skimmer, ozone and that's it really. I'd probably just get the Reeffactory pH or GHL and then that new KH Aquawiz (no calibration would be a dream). I'd want to be able to leave the tank for a month if necessary - setting up for that would really take some planning especially if I'd want a copperband :)
Yeah water change alone isn’t enough to keep up with trace elements. We have a huge coral density for the water volume and some of the trace elements oxidise out of the water pretty quickly
@@ParkersReef Yeah, I guess I mean that from once you got it back into balance I'm surprised you need to add so many individual elements. But there's not just the coral - there is the fuge too and they can really suck out certain trace. I'd love to run a fuge but I think the issue for me is that it throws the trace out by so much. It's also interesting (but not surprising) that different systems use different elements at different rates. Maybe that's the next frontier - trace mixes for groups of elements (and not colours). Maybe Fauna Marin would be likely to get there first if they didn't focus on just one method (their Balling plus something for CaRX) because they stay away from Kalk and fuges. Interested in seeing the upcoming interview with Claude on Frag Garage as Adam should ask him about all of that
I've been dosing sodium hydroxide to offset the Ph from my calcium reactor in addition to kalkwasser. It's super caustic stuff and is exothermic when mixing up, so you have to be very careful with it (always add it to water, never water to it). Works like absolute gang busters to boost Ph, though. I was able to double the throughput on my calcium reactor and still maintain in the 8.2-8.3 range. Edited, because youtube seems to refuse to allow me to respond normally: The sodium hydroxide gets mixed up and dosed the same as any other additive. It is recommended to do it slowly, in small doses over the day, due to its potency. I only have to dose 300ml per day into a system with approx 340g total volume, on top of 6L of kalkwasser. It is an alkalinity buffer, so you'd be using that instead of your current solution and would need to keep on eye on it. The original thread by Randy Holmes-Farley can be found on reef2reef as "Second New DIY Two Part Recipe with Higher pH Boost".
Geezz parker I didn’t get the notifications for a few months and now that display doesn’t even look familiar!! As always thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us man. I could fill an entire notebook full of tips, tricks, and product recommendations/ suggestions that I have picked up thru ur vids over the years.
You ever considered an Apex? I know you like to run everything separate 😊 Just thinking a leak detector would of notified you of the smart tester syphon
Sure have and absolutely will not, in my opinion they’re overpriced and poor quality. I do have a leak sensor and it did notify me (was mentioned in the video), that’s what brought me home from work to sort it out :)
@ParkersReef didn't catch that in video sorry mate. That's fair enough they get a lot of love in the US. I've not had too much issues myself but don't want to ginch it lol 😆
I'd love a video on your approach to stability! Just how stable are your parameters, how much do you let all vary in a 24 hour period, how do you keep up with demand as things change with growth. I can't decide whether to let my alk rise and fall daily and dose the same amount every hour, or use my controller to peg alk to a fix number etc.
yeah ok, I'll have a think about how I could make that into a video. But to quickly answer your question, I am not too worried about things moving throughout the day , but I do want them to remain same day-to-day. That being said, if you have the technology to dial things in hour by hour, it certainly couldn't hurt!
Hello Parker! Have you try dose DD reefs zlements phplus 2 Part dosing system? I have heard reef zlements phplus is sodium hyroxide based. Run reef zlements phplus with calsium reactor?
Great video Sam. I have been debating adding the KH Guardian for some time. I currently test alkalinity with a Hannah checker manually 3 times a week. Would you still recommend that the KH Guardian is the way to go in 2024?
Absolutely would recommend the unit, it’s incredible. However, bare in mind it is Ethernet only and not wifi, so if your tank is not near a router, look to add a Ethernet over powerline kit to your purchase
Absolutely awesome, I love your updates especially when you really show us the guts of your system. I am surprised you don't have an Apex or GHL to help with some of your controls and redundancy, I know they are not essential, but you like your tech and I'm surprised you haven't been tempted. Thanks for your efforts on one of my favourite sites
I’ve been tempted a number of times, but I continue to be unimpressed with the controller options on the market. Plus the fact that none of them support the Australian market :(
Glad to see a good wrap for modular components. I’m looking at using them for a big tank stand. Lovely tank there but ridiculously over engineered. Way too many points of failure for my liking.
Sam, Your sump is very complete. You have great equipment which will stand the test of time. Love the automation. I’ve followed your “Dream Reef” since since step one. Great job. 👏
Great video as always! Regarding the fleece bunching up. From past experience on the Clarisea : the fleece passes over several shafts/rollers along its path. If the roller bends under tension, the distance to the next shaft is differentit (center vs edge). This causes the fleece to bunch up. Perhaps look into the roller at the bottom of the unit, see if its possible to get a stiffer shaft.
I'm just starting my first reef tank and this is super inspiring! maybe someday I can make a similar tank. it makes my little AIO tank look like the saddest little thing ever. lol
They’re from auto aqua. Quite affordable and really neat and tidy. Those ones are the skimmer shut off sensors but you can use them to shut off any device if the water levels gets too high
Cheers once again for a top notch video Sam...it took me 3hrs to watch the whole thing, I kept falling off to sleep...a case of too much food lol ... and what a shock to see my name at the end....thanks to you and your waterbox 20 idiot proof series I took the plunge and gave this reefing a go...and I love it thanks for the surprise lol
It's funny that even after watching the full build and countless updates over the last 3 years; seeing the same gear over and over again. I never miss a video and enjoy every recap from beginning to end. The dream tank really is a dream, even if it's someone elses dream.. Keep on trucking Parker you're the man!
you're too kind, thanks so much. It truly warms my heart to know that people all around the world are so invested in my little piece of the ocean. Thanks for the support and thanks for taking the time to watch my videos!
This aquarium is beautiful well executed nice tech on the tank as well , but if you have a reef tank even a small one with low tech can be expensive😬 it’s addictive as well because the science of it is so intriguing and the feeling of completion feels so good
Yes unfortunately it can be an expensive hobby. Low tech can work equally as well though, it can be a real trap in this hobby to over complicate things!
Thanks for the great video on the sump Sam! You can hit the rust on the hinges for the cabinet doors with rust converter. It leaves a coating over the treated area that will prevent the oxidation continuing. Just remove the hinges whilst treating until the product dries to prevent the brushing action splashing anything into your sump when the product is wet. Once dry, the product has a polymer coating and will be no risk.
Hey Parker. I really love this tank. Have looked at all of your videos on it . This is one of the best aquarium I have ever seen . Love all the tech too ! Great job and keep it up !
The best thing about this video is that it came out all spontaneous without any prior cleaning and fabrication... as it was. Beautiful tank and lovely filtration system
@@ParkersReef what about your reef factory roller filter ? It was good or bad ? You showed in your video it clean your tank everyday with 7cm to 15 cm per day with fleece. I am decided to buy reef factory roller filter M size. So is it actually 7to15 cm per day of taking fleece ? Actually I want to know that with M size how many days will it last (M size fleece ) ?
Hi parker, love the channel. I dont know how you keep track of all that. Im in the market for a auto tester and was wondering which one you would recommend between reefbot, mastertronic, and trident. I tried to find your update on the reefbot and couldn't find it. I saw the review, but nothing else on it. Thanks
@@ParkersReef Thank you, I figured since i didn't see the reefbot under your tank any more you might like the mastertronic better. I always look forward to your uploads. keep up the great work.. Do you have any idea when the new mastertronic might hit the US?
Nice vid Sam, I’m starting to venture into reef moonshiners method for my acro tank and Rockpool tank so it’s very interesting to see how you set up your sump etc. I also ordered a hmahli sump after watching your vids so your channel has been a great resource. I still have some questions for the major elements which I have parked for my lecturers to go through but solid info
@@ParkersReef we’d need to discuss over a few beers I think. There is a lot I’m trying to get my head around but I appreciate it. My systems aren’t as impressive as yours but I do take a fair bit from your learnings and apply to my home tanks and experimental systems. Only been at the marine science game for year 1 so a lot I need to catch up on. Love your channel though
Thank you for a full tour of your dream tank! Did you used stainless screw on your 80/20 or the normal black screw? If so, did you see any rust? Thanks!
@@ParkersReefthank you! I did the mistake of not putting stainless screw. I wonder if I should take redo it or put something over to prevent the rust.. tank and canopy already over the stand
@@i2eef I'd wait and see how you go. If you replace them now or later it's going to be just as difficult, so you can afford to wait a while and see how they go
34:54 That’s a lot of do this and then this one cancels, the other one out and then bring in fresh salt water. I’m just gonna stick to all for reef. I’ll just pay the money.
Yeah it’s a fairly simple little latching relay circuit that I popped together. However, auto aqua now make a unit that does this off the shelf with everything you need. I think the my call it the smart RODI
