I'm not a sailor and I don't know how I ended up here but just I watched every minute of this great, informative, entertaining episode that just reminded me how boring my life is ... thank you lol. Cheers guys you have a new subscriber.

What I love about this video besides the fact that it is quite informative, is the outright enthusiasm by Ashley and Ben for their boat and the life they live. In fact, in binge watching most of their videos, Ashley's and Ben's enthusiasm and wonder for the life they are living and places they visit shines through.

We were vacationing in Virginia Beach last year and met a couple who had just purchased a Prout catamaran and are going to sail her around the world like you guys. Her name is Ohanna and if in your travels you pass her tell them that the Ryan family says ahoy! We actually got a tour of their boat in person much like this tour of yours. We had a wonderful dinner with them and it was a privilege to meet someone who is so adventurous. They are both retired from the United States Navy.

What a loving accomplished couple. It is obvious you are a real partnership and one of my observations to support that is how you allow each other to speak without interruption. That is respect, the foundation of a good relationship. I have been married 52 years and with my best friend since I was 15. (56 years) We are farmers so I know how it is to work together in relative isolation, needing to fix things yourself and helping each other by discussing problems to solve, leading to the making or breaking of a relationship. Health and much happiness to you both on your chosen voyage.

You two are the closest to how I plan on doing things. So many of these sail channels make their lives so much harder than they need to be. You two have it down.

This is a very very good presentation about how they have organised their lives. Really very interesting! I’m nearly 85 now but until about 5 years ago I spent a couple of early spring months every year cycle camping all over Europe! And every year I had about a weeks shake down time where I adjusted to being on my trusty “velo” And just how it is clear that you know your “ship” - so I knew my bike and trailer and knew all the sounds it made. It sounds silly just saying that on here but it is undoubtably a real truth. Even when toiling in adverse conditions I knew when things were under control and my bike was “happy”. And by golly I really looked after my velo and it never let me down - that being said I made sure before setting off on my annual journeys that it was newly serviced (by me), and while travelling I always did an evening mini service after setting up camp and getting my meal cooking. It is quite true that I was aware of the sounds my bike made - I certainly knew when it was travelling well but also when it was under some difficulty -- that sort of event would nearly always resulted in an extra days stop over to give it a lot of tlc!! I really enjoyed this vlog. Tkx a lot!

Wow Wow, I hardly ever watch a full youtube vid.........this is an exception I am glued to to the screen absorbing your narrative in such a sophisticated kind and professional way , trying to absorb every thing you both say and show and describe..........just the sowing alone WOW thats amazing .........all the equipment, just stunning, ya'll are so devoted .....................sorry I am just going to have to follow each and every show you have. I have experienced seas through the cooks in various decrepit old boats, there were some harrowing situations, funnily enough these are the ones you remember. The nearest thing I have to the sea now is my dirt bike on the beach and swimming in the summer. Thank you again

i am new to your channel. My wife and i reside in W.Tennessee of the USA. I lost my health in my late 30s due to cancer from heavy metal poisoning during a former job. I am battling kidney cancer now and i am in stage 4 of my only remaining kidney. However , I am a very positive person and stay away from negativity to maintain a better immune system! My wife and I love the Salt Life and anything ocean related. we simply love the water. We used to own a condo on Orange Beach Al. but had to sell during my worst health issues. We are planning to revisit the same area around Pensacola Florida in spring of 2019. Like i said i was looking around during the wee hours of typical day and found your channel. this video was so informative! thank you for candidly sharing your life and home on the water. I am soaking up every detail though this is not a current video. You two seem so happy and i think if i were able we would try to do the same thing. We know little about sailing but i am a fast learner and your video was very specific with details. for the time being I am resolved to live my life through the experiences of others and share their views and joys from a fixed location. However seeing your happiness is infectious. I want to be visiting you wherever you are. I plan to subscribe and follow your adventures in the future . I look forward to future videos and sharing in whatever way i can with others the Happiness (through yall) that i find. Music is another huge part of my life. I have played guitar for almost 50 years and still play from my wheelchair. like you do; I set up my ability to do what i love most , by keeping "my toys" close by for any spontaneous desire. I really enjoyed your review! We cruised the Caribbean for 3 years on the original 410 owners version. My 2 cents: We had a 7KW genset, 1200AH battery bank 500W solar array, and 40GPH watermaker (watercraft). Watermaker was old school with no gadgetry (auto backflush etc). Bring it up to pressure yourself, watching the guage and listening to the genset as the 2HP motor loaded up. I wouldn't have it any other way. We made thousands of gallons of water with it and it worked flawlessly. I am not a fan of the 12volt based systems. We stayed with the stock setup of fridge and freezer and running dual danfoss compressors. Refrigeration was 95% of our energy consumption and even with the solar array we had, still have to average an hour of genset time everyday. If we were still out, I would rebuild the refrigeration system. Every happy hour usually distills down to refrigeration discussions. I liked the 7kw genset - it was not oversized and could do almost all the tasks required (charge battery and make water or charge battery and run some AC for a while before going to bed if there was no wind) - you couldn't do all 3 though and generally never needed to. The AC wiring from genset to battery charger HAS TO be properly sized based on the length of the run (somebody installed incorrect gauge wire that was on the verge of causing a fire) - many people don't understand the run is twice the distance from the genset to battery charger which in our case was about 60ft with genset in front and charger in the after port sugar scoop). We launched our anchor from the lazerette and think I prefer this to the track on top of the tramp. The only issue was not to let go of the bridal when connecting/disconnecting from the chain (its draped on the underside of the tramp and you either have to swim or get the dingy to run it under). Would love to have a bowsprit and dedicated furler for downwind sail. We had spinnaker with sock which worked really well. Would also have like a spinnaker pole but made do without it. The 410 does not have backstays (only backswept side stays) - this arrangement is at risk of pulling the mast down. I was concerned enough about it that we upgraded the size of our topping lift line - so when flying the spinnaker we would align the boom with the wind, tighten up on the mainsheet/topping lift - a jury rigged running backstay... I agree upwind performance on this boat is lackluster - you need daggers if you want to sail a cat upwind. We had 12ft AB rib with 25HP 2 stroke and this was the bomb. Would buy another AB again in a heatbeat. Not a fan of aluminium bottoms unless they are unpainted. Saw lots of issues with the powder coating delaminating from the aluminum - presto no RIB. We had laundry as well and would do that again in a heartbeat. We never used the dryer part (no power for that) but saved hundreds of dollars in laundry compared to fellow cruisers who were getting it done ashore (sometimes paying $15 or $20 for a load!). Nice to have clean sheets every 45 or 6 days when cruising in the tropics. You need a decent watermaker to support this type of infrastructure. You quickly learn that any comfort added to the boat has some energy implication that has to be managed or considered - its all inter-related. For the new cruisers, this is difficult to sort out because you really only learn this stuff when you get out there. Our energy system was setup by the previous owners during their 6 years of cruising so they had a good understanding of what was required to make it work. The boat came with a Fischer Panda 8kw generator which caused us nothing but problems at the start of our cruise so I bit the bullet and installed a brand new Norpro with sound shield (in forward port lazerette which is where the watermaker was installed as well - and it was whisper quiet - to the point we sometimes forgot it was running). The Norpro came with a 5 year warranty but the company was having financial issues back in 2012. Not sure if they are still in business. We did have some issues with the charge system getting the excite voltage which has to happen to get it to charge... never really resolved that one and it was one of those pesky transient problems that are very hard to diagnose). I did figure out how to manually excite it with 12v when it did happen though. I would do northern lights 2nd time around... easy to get parts and service than most others. Do not buy Fischer Panda! Way to complicated. Our solar panel mount was similar to yours but also articulated so we could follow the sun into sunset - a very nice feature. 1200 amp hour battery bank = 12-6V golf cart batteries. New battery technology is super exciting and you can now get away with half the bank with deep discharge you can do on the new battery systems. 600 AH capacity was about right for our boat and with a better refrigeration system, I think we could have run a net 0 energy program based just on solar. Not sure I would waste my time with wind generator. Dangerous, noisy and you can't get a whole lot of current out of them - put that cash into more or higher quality solar panels - that's where its at. We had 3KW Xantrex inverter / charger. This worked ok but this is one component I would go with higher quality (ie. magnum). Also good to have a secondary backup battery charger for some redundancy. Lose your abiltity to charge and you soon realize how serious the situation is - especially when you risk losing 4 months of cherished steaks etc. in your freezer that cannot be replaced on a whim. Wish the 410 had bigger fuel tanks - 25 gals per side is just not enough fuel so always carrying extra in jerry jugs which is a PITA. The forward garages are super functional - we had one as smelly side for diesel and the other for sails and water toys. I was 42 when we started cruising (wife and then 14 year old son). We did it for 3 years then came back to work. 9-5 sucks and putting a plan back into action for early retirement in 3 years and return to the sea. Looking forward to setting up my next cruising platform - it will either be a catamaran or full displacement trawler.

Thank you for this outstanding, packed full of great meaningful, thoughtful, very much needed information! We are looking to learn to sail and make the transition to full time once financially able. We have been downsizing our home for years and working all of that out to be adjusted easily to having only needed things but not all the clutter. Love cats and looking to find affordability. We will be sailing The Caribbean mostly as we love all things tropics! We are researching and planning to make sure we can do it in shorter order. Thank you for all of the awesome information!👍😌

That is a beautiful, fully loaded vessel! Very comfortable!

You did a very nice job sewing that cover over the helm station, but something that you might want to consider as an additional enhancement is to have a clear version so you can still see the sails, and then an opaque zippered panel underneath so you can keep the sun out when at anchor and don't need to be able to see the sails while sailing. Sometimes if you are sailing while its raining (which may be unavoidable under certain circumstances) allows the helmsperson to still be able to see the sails and wind instruments while still be protected from the elements rather than having to completely undo the cover to be able to see up from the helm station.

I'm happy for your return but you got loads of work ahead and I enjoy your enthusiasm as you approach it. Boats that sit the sun 🌞 isn't friendly too, so just do your best!

I didn’t really dig you guys at the start but now I’m addicted, you guys won me over, best cruiser channel, no semi naked women, no click bait thumb nails, no semi fake video titles for likes and views. Real world couple and I relate to that, you guys are genuine and I don’t feel that you are all about view numbers which is refreshing. Are your engines diesel? Do you store petrol? Scared of fire?

I have done a little bit of offshore sailing, NZ to New Caledonia then Australia, Also NZ to Tonga. A lot of people think that this must be such a glamorous romantic lifestyle. Well it is, but it is also a lot of hard work. You have to be committed and do all the late night watches at 2 & 3 am in extreme conditions. The critical thing is, You need to be an experienced Sailor before you tackle offshore and you need the gear and know how to use it all well, I also helps to be practical, as you have to fix stuff. If you have all those quality's, it is a fabulous lifestyle, with memories that you will never forget. I congratulate you on making the grade and sharing your informative, video. By far, the best overall tour of a cruising catamaran I've watched on youtube! It covers all of the major systems on the boat and is presented as a nice "welcome to our home" video by the couple. We are just starting our adventure and we're looking for as much info as we can get and this hit he spot. Thank you Sailing Nahoa for a very helpful, very entertaining, very enlightening view of you home on the water.

I have been contemplating this sort of thing for a while, now it will be another 18 years because we just adopted a little baby. I will still do this as long as I am healthy and able. I watch tons of these type of videos and yours is the only one I watched all the way through and even went back through parts. Very detailed even about the little things no one talks about. Hi - that was a really informative video so thanks for taking the time to film and edit it. It was one of the best I've seen - I love gadgets but understand the need for ease of repair so that was a good balance. I don't know if you have any commercial sponsorships but it would be helpful if you could name-drop a little when it comes to reliable equipment. One question I wondered about was your batteries are fairly close to the engines - did you have any issue with heat from the engines and if so, how did you solve it? Cheers and thanks again.

Really great video, thanks so much, some great information. I really like sailing catamarans also and I may not be working towards doing a circumnavigation I do want to do the Pacific circle. Right now I rent both Cats and Mono's but my main concern is trying to purchase a Cat which is what I want to do, just don't see myself with enough funds to buy a decent Cat, and I do not want to spend a year fixing someone else catastrophe. Your boat looks great! I also like the idea of in the engines inside, I will be looking for something similar if possible!

When I saw your video clock in at 42:31 I said "... whoa, I've got to reheat last night's pizza and grab a generous pour of some better-than-average vino and settle into the biggest chair I can find". Just saw your chanel, yesterday or the day before and I like it. Guys in case your rigg getting soft, dont rush to tighten the turnbuckles. Better check all the hull joints of main bulckhead for cracks and garkbrown spots - corners in the anchor locker and other front locker. Also the joints in side front rooms. You can drill a 2mm on the darkbrowm spot and you will smell rotten playwood. Possible will see water leak out. Thats mean will need replacement on the main bulkhead. If you tighten the rigg this make the problem bigger and the repair more difficult and expensive. Most people thighten the turnbuckles. Ive seen this on bigger Lagoons only and participate in repair, its a complicated job. Good luck and hope I didnt delay.

Great video guys . Love your work. We have had 2 different cats and spent 5.1/2 years live aboard. The second cat we had was a 2004 410s2 Owners version. Just sold it. Was set up almost the same as yours. Don't know if you have them or not, but we got plastic tubs to fit the fridge shelves (as it's so deep) this kept the fridge door open less and less cold air fell out when opening. We have just sold the Lagoon. It sailed better than I thought (we had a good code 0 a spinnaker folding props etc.) but I never got use to the creaking of the cupboards etc. and found it difficult to sleep inside on long passages and the slamming where the beds stick out under the bridge deck next to the escape hatches drove me nuts on passage. Otherwise I loved the 410 When you come to Australia and if you get down to the Gold Coast. Come say 👋 P.S. While boat less for awhile you vids keep the flame alive.

Excellent presentation guys. You may want to add that you might make 8kn while a monohull in the same wind is doing 4kn therefore you will arrive at your destination a lot sooner and avoid some bad weather the monohull has to tackle. Something similar happened to Delos on the Indian Ocean travelling to Africa.

Amazing amazing. How nice it is to get so much great information. For those of us who are still a year to 18 months away, this answered so many questions.
