Do what speaks to you. Brown locs, green locs, blue locs, loose hair, sister locks bald headed… you are a goddess doll! People try to get me to do alot of styling to my hair. I do it but then I’m like I just like my hair down and plain. I have done so much to my hair that I just feel better when I let it be. I feel like it’s me. You already know what is best for you.. just listen to it.

Green really suited you. This journey is all about expression for you and if you are struggling with it not being you with that hair colour then go back to emerald.if deep in your soul that colour makes you happy do that . Life is too short not to get that smile back . 💚

Out of chaos comes order. The green resonates with your persona. This is a test of your patience, you are about to grow and learn more about you. Be open to the lessons being taught to you. A great teacher is always open to learning. You are still you. But you are evolving, growing. Be patient with yourself. Meditate on why you’re uncomfortable with your outer self and heal from within. Start with the roots and work your way up till you find your inner enlightenment. You have the answers In you already. Be open, be honest, be willing.

You are taking me down the hole with you. Girl I have tears in my eyes. Last year I was in hate with my locs. It’s been a few years coming because I bleached my locs and the fallout was terrible for me. The adjustment to not seeing it retain growth and constantly breaking off had me ready to cut them. I am finally in a much better place with my locs emotionally as it’s in the repair process. Your other video just put a halt on me being ready for dye again, no bleach, cause I’m not ready. Then just getting life together whew. Keep your head up! I’m a new fan!

The emerald locs and the almost waist length of the locs were striking on you. People don’t see that look in real life or online often. So I’m sure you got a lot of positive attention with your hair that way. Since you have changed your locs, you’re likely getting a little bit of pushback from folks. “Why did you cut your hair?” Or “I like the green better.” People don’t think before they speak. And it’s rough because whether we want to admit or not, part of Black women’s identity is tied up in our hair. We have feelings. We’re human. We’re not made of stone. People can and do treat you differently based on your appearance. Sad, but true. You would do well to credit yourself for the practical reasons why you cut your hair (it’a still long and frames your face beautifully) and why you toned the color down to that beautiful clay. Your reasons are valid. Also, you mentioned wanting to embrace silver when it comes in and your natural hair color in another video. Maybe you can grow the clay out and trim the ends of the colored hair as the roots grow instead of starting completely over? That said, if the valid reasons you gave for cutting your hair and changing the color are no longer compelling enough to continue and you’re not happy with your hair, then grow your locs back to waist length and dye them. Life is no dress rehearsal. Also, I can relate to the change in people’s reaction to you. My locs were a little shorter than yours a few months ago. Suddenly they jumped to below bra strap length. Now all of a sudden more people are complimenting me. I understand that longer locs are generally more noticeable than shorter locs but I don’t know whether to be thankful or offended about the sudden compliments. I wanna say, “Well what did I look like before? Shrek?”

You are my ‘Loc Guru’. You are beautiful INSIDE and OUT! I know how you feel; my mom and I have always said that if we’re not happy with our hair…it can put us ‘in a mood’…but as India Arie hinted: you are so much more than your hair. You provide a service to all of your followers with such a genuine heart, that I have been following you since before I started my journey…a whole 6 weeks ago. Green, clay, or natural…I’mo be front and center to soak up ALL of the goodness that you put forth on this platform. ♥️

Babygirl, I totally get it. Just trimmed my 20 year butt-length locs to my shoulders in August and I am in transition too. Everyone else loves them but I still don’t recognize the mirror image as me!! And yes, you said it…. The inability to style my locs with my locs (buns, updos with no pins) is such a mental turn around!! Hang in there…. You are not alone. Thank you for speaking our truth!! I’m gonna keep on pushing with mine but only you know what you need to do. Have a good purging cry….. it’s all good. 😊

Hello! Thank you for sharing. One great key I learned in therapy was don’t make any major decisions when you are going through a tough time because nothing can be fixed from the outside in. I am 7 years into my loc journey as well and as free spirited as I am I have just let them be outside of making sure they are healthy and clean because that just works for me and has helped me love my natural self more. I don’t have any plans on altering them at anytime that’s just me. But in your case it seems that the color is really what brought on these feelings so I would suggest going back green it really suits your energy and your locs will grow longer in no time. And as a mom of a college student as long as you are there for your children support and love them unconditionally they will admire you for being your authentic self. My daughter is a book worm but she thinks I’m awesome with my butt length locs, tattoos and face piercing’s. People respect authenticity even when it’s out of the box. Much love sis💜 stay up 😊

Girl thank you so much for sharing this much of yourself to allow us to feel connected to our humanity. Cause this resonates on so many levels. I started my locs in November and I JUST dyed it Sea witch (blue/green) this week after it faded from blue. It's so much change and uncharted territory; especially becoming the mom of a teen.😮.

I've been following you since your sisterlocs. Your content is always on point, as is this. I started my first set myself with interlocking 8 years ago but made the mistake of bleaching in year 2 or 3. Dealt with breakage in the following years that came to a head on year 6-7 when I noticed I was always losing ends and that my top layer was way shorter than the back. Even with all that I never thought I'd end that journey. Been feeling like a change was deemed so I did it before I could overthink it. I cut about 7-8 inches, combed out the rest, and started a new set of microlocs. I feel challenged (in a good way) and refreshed. Thank you for sharing every realistic part of the journey.

I understand you. That’s what started my journey. Who are you? Who do you pretend to be? I’m a loc’d lady because that’s who I was created to be…but sometimes I’ve questioned that. Who did GOD create you to be Jocelyn? It’s not about what other ppl think but who are YOU? Who did GOD create you to be? I met another young lady in the grocery store planning to cut her beautiful long locs. Then she just saw me and said I was an answer to prayer. My mixed gray locs inspired her to keep her locs! Little did she know she was an answer to mine too! This too shall pass but always be true to The LORD’s plan for your life. I love your locs - I’m not an emerald green hair kind of person unless I see it on your locs 😊. But I love them now too🤷🏾‍♀️. It says I’m still able to rock green but I’m fully grown too! Be encouraged lovely lady.

I’m late to the party but still compelled to add on. Only 2 years 3 months loc’d. I colored my hair with henna for years before locking it. One month into this journey I hennaed my hair like usual and it was the best henna application ever. Still I decided to stop using henna on my locs and now my locs are silver, grey and my natural color. I get compliments but I also get some of the treatment people reserve for old people. My locs sit on my shoulders and I love them. However, I occasionally think about coloring my locs because I don’t feel old yet. Enough about me. When your hair grows grey, you will have plenty of time to decide what you want to do with it. Breathe and enjoy what (ever) you have. Have no fear about how you express yourself. Most women regardless of race feel their identity tied to their hair.

Thank you so much for sharing your vulnerability. You over here going through it, and chose to share with us - that's a giving spirit. What I'm hearing in your words is that you don't feel like you're in harmony and the way you feel about your hair is reflecting that. I think that no matter what you're doing with your hair, until you're feeling more settled within, you won't be content no matter what color or length your locs are, which is why you were getting antsy with the long emeralds. We're always talking about the loc journey, but really, it's a life journey, right? So I think you need to give yourself grace and, like a person with starter locs, be still long enough to live through some uncertainty and occasional discomfort while things become what they becoming. Maybe don't make any additional major changes to your hair soon, hoping to "fix" anything. Maybe wait until the Spirit says move and you feel that with certainty and all the harmony is truly harmonizing, with no doubts you're ignoring. Peace to you!

Hmm, first, thank you for sharing😊 I want to say maybe you were either hiding behind your hair or your was a shield. In a spiritual sense, your hair tied you to your root of desired protection and or tied you to your spiritual life. Now that you have made a change, there are many vibrations that you can now feel and see. If you believe that you had spiritual ties, maybe sit with your cut locs and meditate, if nothing, take one and burn it with intentions. It may allow you to feel what is needed. All in all, i hope you find your footing and be grounded once more!❤

I think this mindset of not loving our hair in general is because of the "zoom effect". We constantly see outselves online from selfies to filters that we've stepped out of love with what we truly look like. Everyone is different and maybe this doesn't apply to you, but I've been seeing a lot of this within the loc community 😢

May sound crazy to the loc community but idc, I really hate the whole hair journey thing. I feel like I got instant locs to get away from the hair journey and simply have healthy hair. When I was loose natural I was on a journey with just trying to maintain it daily, trying new products, figuring out my best cut, length, protective styling…yeah it got exhausting. Locs was a way for me to just let go and BE. I think you should do whatever makes you happy with your hair and I hope you’ll find your peace overall❤
