Love seeing the updates. You are someone I've been following and has helped me with starting my own small farm and selling cut flowers. I just sold my first 5 bouquets and I'm so proud of myself. Thank you for being so real and honest about everything going on. It's so helpful to learn from. Even the real life stuff. My flower farming journey started after I was laid off from my job and lost my grandmother last year. It's been really tough but also has helped me push through. I know she would be so proud of me. ❤

Nicole, a little hint that I heard from another RU-vidr, and it works great! Is to take small rocks, paint them, bright red, just like the strawberries and glue them on toothpicks or sticks, and stick them in your strawberry garden. The birds come down and take a couple pics on the rocks and they lose interest in the garden.

I've heard that painting stones red and placing them among your strawberries can help. The birds peck the stones and it discourages them. I plan trying it next year for what I hope will be my first year of production.

I grew 150 tomatoes one year and couldn't keep up with them. Makes me tired just thinking about it again. Although, I did find that after washing and taking the stems off, I could freeze shopping bags full of tomatoes and during the winter thaw them and it made the freshest tasting sauce ever. Tasted like tomatoes fresh from the vine (in sauce form). You're doing great. Hang in there.

Wow that is a great Tomato Crop. We put in an acre of Tomatoes each year because of canning and selling it at the markets. Good thing you are growing so many San Marzanos. They are in shortage supply now at all the markets. Even Italian foods Canneries can't get their hands on them. They make the best Ketchup and Pizza Sauce of all other tomatoes. We also use/sell a lot of Early Girls, Better Boys, and Beefsteaks. They are great sellers for us as well. Always grow what you can sell the most of. Customers teach you what the money makers are. Still missing Grandpa Gabe, since he was a friend to us all. Extended Family for the Flower Hill Farm Community. THANK YOU again for the great updates.

No Cherokee Purple? Nicole, the Wisteria can take some abuse really well. Pick a spot where you want a focal "tree" and plant the Wisteria. With pruning, you can create your Wisteria into a flowering "tree" which is so beautiful when in bloom with all those flowers cascading down from the tree!

1,000 San Marzano tomato plants! That’s a lot of sauce! I hope you can sell some of your produce and recoup some of the cost. I did see a video on preserving cherry and San Marzano tomatoes….toast them first with some garlic…and herbs if you like….then put them in a large jar and fill with olive oil, get all the air bubbles out and store in refrigerator. Supposed to last all winter as long as contents stay covered with oil. It was a homestead site. Very interesting.

Awesome veggie garden!!!! My entire garden is about 3-4 weeks behind. Just harvested my first cucumber today. Last year I was eating them in June. It has been a HARD growing season here in NH. The cool, cloudy, rain situation has been tough. I dont have much for flowers either (except my dahlias, which are oddly blooming early), and many annuals bloomed out at a few inches tall. Those annuals were robust and 3+ feet tall last year. Cucumber beetles and vine borers have made their appearance. I have little hope for my garlic and potatoes. The rain just has things so saturated. Even my raised beds need a canopy or something to give them a break from the rain. I just keep trucking along. Growing flowers and veggies means lots of pivoting, and dang is that ever true this year. So happy to see some farm footage!!!

Hi Nicole. Your vegetable garden looks so good. I do cringe when I see you pull your nutgrass weeds though. When you pull them they disconnect from the “nut” and can lay in your soil for up top 10 years and come up at any time. The more you pull the more that’s comes. It reproduces by seeds and nuts.

Nicole, We have nutgrass here in Mississippi, zone 7b. That stuff will grow up in concrete or asphalt, I honestly believe. I despise that junk, it’s almost worse than the crabgrass and volunteer bermuda that we have to fight yearly. My sympathies for you having it in upstate New York. Have you considered cattle panels for your tomatoes? I’m very pleased with mine, if you would like some information, Growfully with Jenna, has a RU-vid channel and she has some videos on the subject. I am moving more of my vegetable garden to raised beds like you, thanks for sharing your success there. I hesitate to say it, but I’ve got tomatoes down here in Mississippi, both cherry and indeterminate, but you’ll soon get there with yours. Appreciate you and Brad, keep up the excellent work!

The python beans can almost turn into an invasive species if you allow any seeds to remain in the ground...probably not in your zone, but here in the deep south we lack sufficient prolonged cold temps in winter to kill them off. They're wicked plants to grow! We've had them for 3 yrs now in our garden.
