I love this! Brings back memories of my Japanese grandmother, who married a black man and learned how to cook southern food. She made gumbo every year for new years, and it was SO GOOD! Now I make it with my sister whenever we get together to honor her memory.

Mmmmm 😋😋😋 Cajun gumbo is my family's traditional favorite, sometimes seafood, sometimes chicken & sausage. Your roux color turned out amazing looking and from the sounds of Mom & Dad, it was really delicious as well.

Giving credit to someone that doesn't deserve it should be beneath anyone. You can't name one dsh that didn't come from someone else that cajuns supposedly made, not one. Plus you can't name one dish that they made that the original people that made it aren't cooking it now.

Yes I’m mixed race from Opelousas Louisiana and creole is mixed with Hispanic,French, Indian and African descendants I’m mixed Creole,Cajun and Asian I’m a gumbo woman lol 😆

As a proud New Orleaninan, I can honestly say your gumbo looks official. The only thing it's missing is the hot sausage, and you're not getting that ingredient outside of Louisiana, and even that's subjective cause hot sausage is a Nola thing. Your dad reminds me of my grandfather eating gumbo during the holidays if you colored him brown.
