I stupidly bought one of these, and it was expensive. It leaks when it rains (from the very beginning, didn't "develop" a leak,) and because of that it's not possible to camp out of it. When I contacted the company, I got a letter from the company LAWYER saying they had never guaranteed it would not leak. So take that into consideration before you spend your money. Also, before I had had it very long, one of the window tracks went bad and the window can't be used. Piece of very very expensive junk. I'd sell it to someone if I could find another fool.
Ordered my A.R.E shell back in the beginning of Feb. right after receiving my new Silverado, and I just received it earlier this week (over 20 week wait) was told several times that it was being built and and that it would be shipped. Original time frame I was told was 10-12 weeks. After that just plan on getting the runaround. I even offered to drive up to Ohio and pick it up when they told me it was a shipping issue, only to find out that it hadn't been built and that it was just another line of BS they were coming up with. On a good note only 2 of the 4 windows leak....I like the function of the vented windoors but they leak pretty bad. Not looking forward to taking it the dealer, I'm sure they will make up some crap. Paid $3350.00. I recommend going with Leer (I have one on my Ram) it's been on for 12 years and have had NO issues. If I hadn't spent so mush I would take it off and use it for target practice then burn it to the ground. (With the so called fiberglass shortage) you can tell that the shell is much more flimsy than the older style. Have a nice day
I've had mine since 2005 and I love it. I spray painted the glass door black for privacy. I also bought a bumper step to make getting in easier. I'm 5'11" and have no problem climbing through the door. I use the back of my truck for boondocking.
I do construction, very handy for tools and materials like concrete without having to worry about rain or snow. also becomes a nice bathroom if you have a bucket and tp
Julie D I'm not really sure how setting Jason on fire would help him get through the door. I would think it would be a lot more difficult to do something like that while set on fire.
I drive a F150 with your topper for work everyday. My question is how do I get in between the cab and the topper to clean the window?. There's no opening to get anything in between?. I love my topper except for this one problem. Any info would be appreciated
We have a dealer here in Ottawa, Ontario and I'm considering to see North American this. My mind just wonders with ideas and every time I google truck cap camping. I love this glass door over the normal truck door. So much more like a little home.
So what I like about this is the door, but what I don't like about is is the door is all glass & lacks privacy. Also would be nice if you offered a taller shell option
I bought my F150 with one of these fitted. I love it except for having a short bed and the original tailgate is gone. Can I remove the door temporarily?
Been a while and no answer, thought I'd try to help. On either end of the top hinge there is a rubber plug held in place by a small phillips screw. Remove the plug from one side, disconnect the lift struts (small flat screwdriver on the back side of the spring steel keeper will disengage it). Then lift the door to somewhere around horizontal and simply slide out the open end of the hinge track. Suggest at least three people, but can be done with 2...might take some jogging to align and slide. Note: Do not lube this track with any liquid lubricants...they will attract dust and cement the hinge in place. Wash and blow dry is all it should need.
Question with the back up camera option on the full door -how is the camera installed? is it built into the door ( with full factory warranty?) where is it mounted? And will it utilize my existing backup camera wire-run (to my Factory installed F150 radio system).. right now the camera is in the tailgate-but that will be removed when they install my Topper with the full door.
Are will not send you replacement parts like Windows or glass doors you have to go through another party to get them and then it's a big hassle because you have to give them a serial number I own one of these
When i saw that very short gal i thought it was deliberate to get viewers to believe it was really a walk-in door. But then she didnt even try. Its obviously not for anything accept crawl-in which in fairness is more than some folks have right now.
I have one of these awesome caps on my 98 Chevy short bed. I love it but after many years of use the hinges that hold the glass door to the hatch have broken. Can you please tell me if you carry replacement hinges or where I might be able to purchase them.
What I want to know are there any pickup toppers with a vertical rear window designed to reflect bright headlights back into the issuers eyes when following you with bright headlights
@ARE i have same cap on my 2014 ram. I bought used, old owner lost keys. .. i already went to my are dealer they had keys but not the one i needed. How can i find out what key it is?
Derrick Lawrence Cut a hole in the top about 1 foot from the back end stick a chain through it and then hook the chain back to itself. Hook the other end of the chain to a thick tree. Then put your pickup in drive and floor it! It will come right off!
I have this high truck cap on my 8ft 2014 chevy 2500 HD with this door but I am putting the tailgate back on if anyone wants to buy the door from me! I am in southern california
Music is over modulated and muffling the voice delivery. I would rather hear what the lady has to say than a bunch of hyper noise with a heavy bass line. If I want music, I know where to turn.
Garbage company 4 year old cap discontinued they no longer supply parts leaving my cap worthless customer service said sorry about your luck and hung up on me don’t purchase ARE they will leave you helpless
Here's my latest beef..... I bought my cap used, need keys for it. Local dealer can't pin down a date thatmy key willbe in and whether they will even b3eon next shipment. The fact that they can't order directly from you and you Express mail them a couple sets of keys is ridiculous. Also that fsct you don't keep track of which key fits which cap, no record of key number....wtf. so we try 17 of the 20 keys and off course it's one of the 3they don't have. 6,7or 12. Also ordered the fake window from the top front of cap and they don't know when that will be in either.... confused, glad i didn't buy it new wouldbe even more mad. So i guessI'll go camping this weekend in my big back door cap with 3locks on it with none of them locked.
