Thanks, this was very helpful. I haven't ridden it in years and needed a refresher on the turns, and this delivered! I'm sure I'll still get lost, because that's how I roll.
Doing this route tomorrow, never been before. Using your route from RWGPS. Taking advantage of the last day of free rides on the Metrolink w/your bike. Heading out at 5am from downtown riverside on the metro to Fullerton then taking the metro back👍🏼
Great guide. You and the outsider have the best guides for this trail. And ya, you def don’t need any type of crazy bike to ride this. I actually bought a hard tail (Marin San Quentin 2) mainly for this trail as my enduro that is long travel is pretty overkill.
I just started mountain biking, learning on my own, riding solo. Wanted to try this loop for awhile but I needed a good map guide. Your video is the best guide I found, I took notes and was able to complete the loop last weekend. Thanks for posting!
I've ridden the loop quite a bit and if you don't want to ride with the crowd I'd recommend going at a time where you finish right before sunset. If you have good strong lights you can even go at night where you're unlikely to run into anyone.
Yeah! I used to ride the loop ALL the time with the guys after work. Was fun virtually riding it again. You ever do the 'Tour de Tryptophan' the day after Thanksgiving to see how many consecutive loops you can do? Sadly I don't think anyone hosts that anymore...
Did the loop twice now following you ride with gps! Thanks so much! Do you know any other routes for gravel bikes in OC area? Saw your video on chino hills but looking for something near south Orange County. I’m fairly new to gravel riding
Well done! Thank you. Going to share this with my friends. You took that first incline like a champ before you fell at the top. I usually get less than a quarter way up before I stop (or fall) and have to walk.
The Indiana Jones Trail is my favorite over by the golf course lol it’s not called that but it looks like the ride you have to choose which path to take the narrow path or the wider path hands down my favorite trail but I’ve never been on these other trails
Must be something wrong with me... I tried this a couple weeks back (late Jan 2021) on a mountain bike with what I THOUGHT was a pretty serious wall crawler cassette, I could only get about halfway around. I've done the bit from the railroad tracks to Brea Dam on a seperate ride, but never tried the whole loop til then. From the look of it I might have been close to finishing those hill climbs but geez.. I had to bail before I crossed Euclid again and find my way out of a residential neighborhood. I had to walk up too many of those "little punchy bits", even WITH a wall crawler. Mayby I'm too old or my bike (bike is at least 20 years old) is, but this one kicked my heinie. Thanks for the cool video :-)
@@TheBikeSauce Looks like we'll find out soon enough. I'm finally getting a new mtb. I've also been "roading" all over the place so I'm in much better shape now. I'll keep you posted, might even @ ya when I post MY video 😝
Well this video was back from when ppl were encouraged to go outside for exercise. What concerns me now is the amount of ppl who are still flooping maskless in early 2021 🤷♂️
Looks like a lot of fun. I was never into cycling when I lived in SoCal but now that I live here in Japan and cycle, I watch your vids and look forward to visiting and trying out some of these trails. Any plans for the Diverge? I have been riding Ritchey Beacon handlebars since they came out about a month or so and they are perfect for me. especially the drops, for downhill and more technical stuff. looking forward to your next vid.
Thanks! I did wheels and tires already (huge improvement!). Funny you mention the beacon bars - I was just looking at those and they seem like the way I'd want to go. Bit wider, shallow, and shortish reach. I haven't been back to Japan in over a decade - used to go every year to visit family. Looks like there's some great riding out there!
I need to work on my braking while going downhill to make the full loop doable for me. Been mostly just free falling and I feel like any second I'm gonna crash. Had to bail out of doing any more downhills this weekend. Are you pulsing the brakes, or riding them hard all the way down?
Really enjoyed the video and thanks for the map link, that helps a lot. I live in Brea and have a fat tire E-bike. Its a hard tail and doesn't have low gearing, but I think it would be OK. Do you know if Ebikes are restricted on any of these trails? I'm a very courteous rider, so its not usually an issue on most trails. Any thoughts on this?
Awesome video. I did the loop once last year with my tarmac sl5 road bike rim brake 25mm sticks and tubes and got through it just fine no crashes or flat. Got myself a Niner rlt gravel bike with 45mm tires and managed to crash going downhill around 15:00 (fell over my handlebars got a broken humerus). We’re you braking on those downhills? I think because I did it real cautious with my road bike I gained too much confidence with the gravel bike and got careless on the descents. If you got any tips for a noob gravel cyclist (been riding road for over a decade now) it would be very much appreciated. Keep up the good work and always stay safe!
What a rockstar doing the loop on a proper road bike! Sorry to hear about the crash - hope you’ve healed up. I brake lots on the downhills - generally pretty cautious, but I know my limits pretty well. I’ll work on a gravel tips for roadies video (been on my list for a while now). Thx!
@@TheBikeSauce thanks for the response and well wishes. I built up the bike last week and took it on its first proper gravel ride yesterday at the loop so it’s a bummer but visually the bike looks fine (til further inspection haha). Honestly can’t wait to get back and apply what I have learned from experience. This is my first major crash and broken bone and honestly glad I didn’t take anyone else down with me. Experience is the best teacher but not always the most pleasant 😭
Question so I rode Fullerton loop yesterday and ate it pretty bad on the first climb and ended bending my rear derailleur. Any recommendations on a good bike repair shop you have had experienced with?
Probably just the hanger that bent (it’s supposed to bend rather than frame or mech). You might just order a new hanger and replace the bent one. A shop might charge you more than the cost of a replacement for labor to straighten it. In any case, I’m uncomfortable providing recommendations for shops in the comments. Feel free to DM on IG or email through my website!
@@TheBikeSauce It doesn't sound that heavy at all. Damn you got great cardio man, I had to take breaks mid hills specially @ 15:58. Thanks for the video!
Lol. Turn your head to the side, block one nostril, then blow your snot out the other onto the ground. It’s fine under normal circumstances, but kind of worrisome during covid
It looks like in the video your getting out if the way of the buses exhaust or something/ What’s funny is now every tine I see an OC Bus I want to call them Snot Rockets.
It’s made by Timber, and it comes in a clamp on style and a quick release strap style. I use the quick release so I can easily swap it between bikes. It’s nice because there’s a switch to turn it off when you don’t need it.
The Bike Sauce thanks for your quick reply, already ordered one! Was looking for such a long time for and easier „automatic“ way of ringing..also like the fact that you’ve made so much fun - repeatedly - out of your „little“ crash and the snot bomber (never heard of that word before and there is no equivalent in German - unfortunately) - I also hate these nasty people doing that..my father did the same since I got faster then he is, now he has an e-bike and his snot bombing starts again, when we do family trips 😅
Heading to REI tomorrow to get that bell as well. Good job taking us along on your ride. Love that you included “the incident”. Made me subscribe to your channel. Keep it up .
