i saw this match and i compared to nowadays mens singles top match such like Axelsen, Kunlavut, Ginting, Shi Yuqi, and i found some big differences between these 14 years such as: 1. Players like Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Taufik Hidayat, and Peter Gade have minimal unforced errors compared to today's top players in their match. I'm guessing its because those 4 kings experienced old scoring system that makes player must have good defenses, focus and stamina. So they didn't used fancy shots, scan and risky shots often because they rather play safe and let the opponent do the mistake. Players like Axelsen, Ginting, Shi Yuqi, Antonsen etc now get used to rally new scoring points, makes their training is about attacks and kills as fast as possible, rather than endurance. Only a few top players in the top 10 ranking use rally style of game (Jonatan Christie, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Lakshya Sen) 2. They didnt bother to use trickshots or risky shots, they chose to play safe and push the opponents back to have their own advantage in the next shots compared to so many risky shots nowadays 3. They have good defenses so flat fast exchange and drives is not so common, different with today's game
