Just a tip, I think it's easier to add the rice to the uncut sock first, then put the rubber band on, then cut the top off where you need it. We love these!! A friend of mine and I are both gnome crazy!!!

Used TP rolls or paper towel rolls cut in half would work well too, and are totally free. Could stuff them with old paper if needed.

Fill with unpopped corn, add whole cloves and chunks of cinnamon stick for a Christmas scent.

What are weebles??? What do you mean “so the eggs don’t hatch? Gross. Gross. Gross. This just changed the way I will look at rice again. I’ll have to look this up. I knew that sometimes people have seen black things in their rice. Maybe even a small worm I think someone told me. But weebles and eggs and hatch oh boy. Well these Gnomes are really cute. And I think I’ll just pick up some pollyfill instead of rice. Thanks

Your video is awesome! I had a little thought- when you tried the embroidery thread around the nose (leave the tails at the bottom) you could take a large eyed needle and run the thread through the nose. Where the nose hole would be on the bottom of each side - thread the needle up to the top of the nose and tie it off. It would create little nose holes. Wow that was hard to explain in words! Again you created a fantastic video!!

Really cute. Going to make some of these for next year. This year I did snowmen. A little tip... a lint roller is great for getting any bits of Styrofoam, fur and hot glue strings off of your table and off of the craft you're making.

Seen lots of gnomes handmade and I love some of them...but yours are so gorgeous and look store bought. You did an amazing job on the gnome and the tutorial WOW... Thanks for sharing! Styrofoam can be expensive... You can also use aluminum foil to shape or snow cone cups. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

A tube sock is a sock with no heel definition, completely straight, which might actually work better

I've just in the last few days gotten interested in learning to make gnomes, and already it has become an addiction for me! LOL This is the second video I've seen of someone adding string along with the rubber bands. It's the FIRST one I've seen do the nose this way. I like it! Now I gotta try it.

I was hoping you’d show how to cut the fur because you obviously know how. Many people don’t realize that you don’t cut it like fabric or the fur won’t have a natural look.i cut it from the back side and it seems to work well.

Chewie Sloth You turn the fur over and cut the fabric. It helps if you hold it up a little while cutting. My granddaughter helped me get a lot of experience with fur recently while she was making masks.

Tip girl! Put the sock in a plastic cup and wrap it around the edge. Makes filling it with rice so much easier and less mess!

I started making snowmen and want to do gnomes yet. After stuggling with the rice I found and easy solution...put rice in a pitcher and I cut the top odd a 2 liter bottle to use as a funnel. It works great you can grip the sock around neck old bottle fill the funnel and squish the sock as you fill, no mess!

With rice it can result in bugs ( yes, rice has dormant insects in it😨) So maybe it’s better to use something else for the base

I didn't see this comment so I hope I'm not repeating. I would recommend using the pellets instead of rice. Years ago I designed a floppy dragon and filled it with bird seed. If you live near fields or in the country, you can imagine what happened after I'd stored them in the based for a while. I would caution against the rice for the same reason. Gorgeous gnomes, I love them.

Use a cup with the sock in it then pour your rice in the sock that's inside the cup. No mess.

Great job.....just a suggestion ..... use a paper towel tube to insert into the sock to help pour the rice or poly to fill it.

5:56 The other day when I was making some Gnomes I left the excess sock on top of the gnome to help fill in the hat. It works out okay. It’s really just a matter of preference. I do think it’s a good way to decrease the amount of stuffing in the hat.

You could leave the sock whole fill to desired fullness and tie off then cut...

Sarah, I bought some Faux Fur at Joann's off the Bolt. The lady who waited on me told me NOT to cut with Scissors but cut from the back with a Razor Blade. She stated that cutting with Scissors will give a choppy look to the Fur. I was wondering if that is how you cut your Faux Fur ??? If Not could you please explain how you did your Cuts ??? Instead of freezing the rice, just add a few drops of tea tree oil and mix it up.

I use a disposable foil pan to rest my glue gun in so it helps contain the globs of glue that drip

I made one and just used fiberfill. I'd gotten some 10" heavy cardboard cones at a rummage sale so I cut off the widest 2" and covered it with wood print for a base. It's light weight, worked well, and I don't have to worry about bugs or mice getting into it. They're very cute.
