Judy Kuhn is a national treasure. It was so rewarding to hear her return to Broadway in such an intense way in this role that was so perfect for her (although this is from the pre-Broadway version). Throughout her life, at all ages, she has achieved such magnificent things as a singing actress. It's heartwarming to see and hear her in new roles and challenges as the years go by.
Cried and chilld when I heard her do this live. She initially deserved to win the Tony for this role. Judy's voice.... GODDESS. Of course growing up with her Pocahontas and Les Miz, FUN HOME was the ultimate Broadway comeback for Ms. Kuhn
You have posted many things that have made my heart sing - but this performance is one of the ones that kills me every time. What a nuanced, beautiful performance by a woman that has the voice of an angel. Thank you thank you thank you for posting this - it is my favorite song in the entire score!!!
Judy frickin' frackin' Kuhn. What a legend, doesn't even move her hands off the table and she conveys such strong emotion, makes me Feel Things, how about a round of applause for this walking talking bundle of talent right here ^^^
Right?! I’ve seen this number performed a number of times by different actresses. I couldn’t believe her hands never leave the table! The definitive performance. It’s all on her face.
Sooo happy that I got to see Judy Kuhn perform this on Broadway. Life goal down! Now I just need to see Lea Salonga in Once on This Island and I can die happy.
This is so strange...I think I saw your cover of Wait for Me somewhere on insta. Kind of impressed with myself that I recognized you from your profile pic it was really good btw
I am just now getting into Fun Home, and I ADORE this song. Judy Kuhn is my biggest musical theatre idol and I ADORE her in this role. It's so wonderful to see how she has grown from playing the romantic young girl lead (Cosette) into the warm, earthy mother/mother figure.
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 In case I haven't said it before, thank you so much for all of these videos. There are so many I still haven't had time to see--but am amazed that I can.
To start a song without any accompaniment, without any note given, is one of the hardest things to do as a vocalist. And she nails it. Flawlessly. The piano gives the note earlier in the scene, but then there’s more dialogue. She has to hold the start note in her head and be in the scene and deliver dialogue. Just, all the props to Judy Kuhn. One of Broadway’s unsung heroes.
I wish these full videos can be fully released, I wish the filming didn’t have to be risky enough to the part where it would be a private collection. These are just amazing videos and it preserves Broadway history.
Even though most cannot exactly relate to the situation the Bechdel family experienced, Fun Home is so beautifully crafted & performed to the point where it is still so heart-wrenching!!! Thank you so much for this quality post!
Pocahontas, is that you?! 😜 in all seriousness, I am blown away at how she slayed such an emotionally deep song all while sitting down, never moving her hands!
I like comparing this song with "Every Day A Little Death" from A Little Night Music, and seeing how different composer/lyricists approach a similar theme with their different styles and set in two very different contexts, in terms of plot and character.
