Or just look at a selunite thing in general, act 1 shart is so fucking annoying and you're basically forced to have her in your party because they shove her onto you and if your character is somewhat nice they will tell her to enter the party (yeah I hate how much they forced her into everyones party)
@@El_chara She's literally not forced on you at all. She's unavoidable because they need to get the artefact, but she can be killed and never recruited if you want.
@@Pluton1430Now you guys are getting mean^^ I think it can be very rewarding, to have those jabs and religious debates with Shart and then being able to save her soul with love ❤
As somebody who fairly recently completed a run as a Selunite paladin/cleric romancing Shadowheart, I can indeed confirm that there's a lot of great dialogue between her and a Selunite player. It's by far my favorite RP-focused playthrough so far.
I liked that the dialogue options weren't just about being antagonistic with her. I was really surprised by the options that came up with the Nightsong. I agonized over the decision and ultimately let her kill the Nightsong, which led to even more interesting dialogue.
I’ve gotta say, having played Durge in both major ways, going full murder hobo is fun for like a couple hours then the narrative gets really unsatisfying. On the other hand, resistant Dark Urge is one of the coolest story lines I’ve experienced in a game. It’s the playthrough that actually made me like Astarion.
I've started a run with my friends, where we play as a group of magical girls. Every character has a color and can only use abilities and elemental powers that would be expected of that color. We also have to save everyone (and sadly anyone hostile has to die because with spells we cannot really use non-lethal attacks). I have a bard as the pink and I can only use psychic dmg, buffs or my mace in combat. A friend brought a wizard as the blue and only uses cold and lighning spells. Another friend plays as a druid who only uses thorn whip and shillelagh basically. We made Shadowheart the yellow, respecing her as life domain cleric so she is a better healer/supporter. We made Karlach into a sorcerer using fire spells. Minthara will be the purple who only joins us after her redemption ark and her assigned element will be thunder (we aren't far enough into the story, so we don't know what class she will be yet). Laezel will be the silver who only joins us for a short while (we haven't recruited her early, so we will meet her at the mountain pass and will go to the creche with her immediately. We will probably keep her as a fighter, but we might yet come up with a better idea to fit the narrative. With the basket full of equipment mod, we could even dress up everyone in their own color, so we also look like the part (still thinking about some transmog mod to be able to use some vanilla equipment set bonuses)
I heard somewhere an idea of not a solo but a duo playthrough. it makes the run a bit less lonely, feels really intimate with the companion of choice and helps with some situations where you would otherwise have to abuse game mechanics to get through
I am doing it in my current honor mode play through and I have to say it is way easier than solo, and also managing/building 2 characters is way easier than 4.
My very first playthrough when the game release was playing the Dark Urge as a Duergar Paladin of Vengeance. I wanted a character that various NPCs in the world would prejudge as being evil, who had the urges to do evil things, but was trying to remain good. It went far better than I had anticipated and is still one of my favorite playthroughs. I'm currently playing another Dark Urge, but this time I'm a Drow Sorcerer and embracing all of the urges.
ayy I just finished my evil durge run as a drow sorcerer :D 10/10 would recommend. also I’m not usually a romancer but the durge x minthara duo makes too much sense to not get on board with lmao
My favorite run I’ve done is something similar to Pokémon. It is a nuzlocke run of the game. Essentially what happens is if a companion falls in combat you cannot pick them up or revive them and they can no longer be used during the playthrough. I like this idea a lot because it makes use companions you would not normally use like Halsin or Jahera. Also made me use my brain trying to come up with the best builds for each characters, whether it be sticking to their original class or respecing them entirely
honor mode is absolutly great, very exciting. finished it a week ago. ;-) I would never play solo, its all about the companions, without them I would not have any fun.
I'm still thinking about playing the different narrative options. My next will be a druid that sees mind falyers as part of nature (I guess that fits with "embrace ilithid powers", but there is a bit more), but I'm also debating making a drow to play the act 1 very differently
Playing as a drow is definitely VERY interesting! And as a tiefling the story gets so rich! I’m thinking about playing a gith on my next run because like… they’re probably the main race when it comes to the plot, right? And I never did it before, I can only imagine how much the dialogues change. Maybe a warlock and paladin Durge gith. Oooooo 👏
@@ManubibiWalsh I'm playing as a sassy Gith Ranger. He pretty much shares Lae'zel's opinions on priorities and such, but is way less aggressive. Just finished with the Creche and can confirm is an interesting option (if you are not doing honor mode, I suggest allowing Lae'zel first go at the zaitisk even if you intend to load back to be the one to go)
@@ChongFrisbee nah, I’m not gonna do honor mode. I love the game, I love the mechanisms of the game, but I don’t think I’m good enough for honor mode and that’s fine with me. But like, why is it different for honor mode?
@@ManubibiWalsh ah, it is just different in that, if you want you Gith Tav to be the one going trough the zaitisk you can't send Lae'zel first and then load back to send your Tav in before her because honor mode keeps saving over
I’m in a fun Bonnie and Clyde run, just Tav (paladin/warlock) and Shadowheart respeced as a bard. They have almost identical stats, which is a little hilarious.
For the Epic Failer variant you can also play around being drunk, there's even equipment for it! The condition gives you disadvantage on dexterity and charisma rolls. This is not my idea but something I found refreshing for making the Dark Urge feel less controlled. They have unique dialogue checks so the idea is that you roll a physical dice outside the game to resist selecting these options. You could add your character's Wisdom modifier if you wanted a little more consistency. The difficulty checks proposed were DC5 for just saying something Dark Urge, DC10 for hurting another character and DC15 for killing someone. It does require some knowledge of how certain encounters play out and sometimes the example phrases don't predict the outcome as well as you'd like, but it makes Durge play throughs more variable than just Redemption or Acceptance
Evil Dark Urge really removes so much content from the game it's kind of crazy. You kill so many companions and lose their quests as a result. I wish some kind of evil content would come into play to replace it.
The only companion you kinda is forced to lose through Durge dialogue is Gale, and maybe your romance/most liked companion during that Act 2 cutscene. The rest you lose either by being a murderhobo, or by deciding to massacre the grove (such as Karlach and Wyll), which arent choices tied with the Durge path. Even though Durge's modus operandi is to be an unhinged mass murderer, there is nuance to evil, and you could play an Evil Durge in such a way that lets you keep a few more companions, at least for a little while longer, and still maintain the roleplaying aspect of it intact.
But yeah, I agree that it would definitely be nice if you could play a murderhobo and get the same amount of companions or content that you get normally. Some kind of pay-off. Right now you get Minthara and... That's it? And it doesn't even matter anyway because they patched it, so now you can get her during a good run as well, so 🤷♀️
From a narrative standpoint evil Dure is a very sad playthrough. It was confirmed multiple times that the Urges themselves come from Bhaal and if the character acts on them even when having the ability to resist, it kinda means they're hollowed out. No soul and no mind - only dark god's heritage.
Wylzel is probably ideal pairing for a laezel origin, apparently from anecdotes i've heard you can end up having the gith egg and the adopted child lucy be siblings in the games epilogue. Thus making laezel an adoptive mommy of two. sneed.
I want to have a "fury of the small" playthrough with only races that can fit through all those small holes. (Unfortunately dwarves can't). Also, I wish goblins and kobolds could be playable races in bg3 as they are two of my favorite 5e races to play.
themed playthroughs are fun, with some mods, im currently doing a game with 4 custom characters all themed around the undead and necromancy, necromancy wizard, oathbreaker paladin, circle of spores druid, and modded death domain cleric
I have enjoyed every run I have done so far (I have only played custom/Durge characters and refuse to play origin runs because I love the voice acting too much and I don’t wanna be playing a whole run without hearing, like, Lae’zel’s voice. If the voice tracks get added on later I might consider it though, especially because I’m very curious about the plot details you can unlock that way). I have particularly enjoyed my run as a Durge tiefling bard bedding (and romancing) Astarion and Halsin at the same time, and every monstrosity throwing themselves at me. That was on my third run, and now I have to say bard might be my second favorite class together with ranger and druid. So, my first run was probably the boring one (but I enjoyed it IMMENSELY) because I played a half-elf ranger Tav on explorer mode and didn’t know how to multiclass so she stayed “just” a ranger until the very end. Second run, I played as another half-elf Tav but I experimented with multiclassing there, I have absolutely no idea what classes I used there. My third run was possibly the most fun, I played as a tiefling bard Durge and literally fucked everything that moved and got through so many difficult interactions just with charisma, and it REALLY made me understand the importance of having a decent level of charisma especially in dnd sessions. I also rejected Bhaal on that run and in every run I had Astarion not ascend. And now I’m playing as a Lolth drow, Durge again, as a sorcerer and bard mix, I’ll accept Bhaal this time and ascend Astarion (and rough him up and put him in his place if I kiss him and he disrespects me because I learnt you can do that too and ooooooh niceeeee like I love him but I do not accept to be disrespected, especially as a drow Bhaalspawn, like I love him to death but I will NOT be disrespected!!) and I’m slowly learning more about the game’s mechanics and how to build my party in a way that’s efficient. I really love stacking buffs and the tactical aspect of the game, which is surprising because I never really liked tactical games….. still don’t, for the most part, but this game makes it so incredibly interesting and rewarding!
I did the opposite of a solo run. I got a mod that lets me bring ALL companions. Heck, I even got Efrin, the dwarf from the witch's house. Was fun until Act 2 when it does start to get crowded.
I literally started a new Honour mode 2 days ago, then patch 7 was announced for September, and now I want to hold off playing until September, lol Also, here’s hoping we see a Lone Wolf perk or something like it, a la Divinity
I wanted to see lone wolf in this game when I hadn't played solo, but then I realised just how broken I could be without it. Things like haste, speed pot and bloodlust, anything that gives more actions and bonus actions feels like it does what lone wolf did, with exception of how the stat gains were doubled in Divinity OS 2. Dumped str with hill and cloud giant elixirs mostly fills in that gap, then the con amulet in act 3. You make me want to wait for the September update too before I come back and begin another playthrough
That's basically what I did to set up the Honor mode run I'm going to do after I actually complete the game a few times. Generated 10 random characters, picked the one I liked best, and allowed 10 modifications to their appearance - counting adjusting a single slider as an individual change, changing a single color as a change and so forth. Wound up with an anatomically male non-binary Tiefling with a ton of makeup and pretty long hair. I'm honestly impressed by how androgynous they wound up being considering how limited I was tweaking their appearance. Gave them a nice equally glammed up bearded Dwarf woman as a Dream Guardian created via the same method
Disguise self spells can help change up interactions in alot of instances, like going to the Githyanki cresh with a Githyanki Tav will obviously give you Githyanki unique dialogue, however same can be achieved with disguise self spell. Am gonna be playing through as Dark Urge after patch 7 since that patch will give extra stuff for him. Also personal challenge, go through the whole game without killing anyone, ie running away from fights or knocking your enemies out, stealing from all vendors and collecting boss or unique enemy corpse and putting them in my camp chest as trophies 😂
I'm doing a dark urge honor run where roll for all dialogue choices. It was all fun & games until accidentally permanently killed a couple companions that way.
im on my 5th playthrough, my biggest tip for always having new playthrough ideas is really planning out what ending you want and what major choices your going to make that are different from the previous runs. the main thing that keeps me motivated is focusing on one companion and making a tav that suits them. Ive always liked the roleplaying side to bg3 even it seems childish. right now im playing as a lawful good teifling and focusing mainly on karlach and wylls story. also i recommend playing as the origin characters at least once! you get new dialogue! ALSO mods help a LOT with playthrough ideas, in one of my runs i downloaded a mod to be an aasimar and it was sooo fun (ive also 100% the game, i do play the game like a dating sim sometimes but i still enjoy the combat and story)
One suggestion I will always give to anyone who listens: Romance Minthara! "Yeah I did that on my last run, I knocked her out at the-" NO! If all you want is a strong paladin drow mommy snarking in the background and telling you to do the evil thing, yea sure knock her out and have fun. But I promise you, if you give even half a shit about her as a character, you HAVE to side with the goblins and kill the grove and all those tieflings, and then you WILL sleep with her. I am DEAD serious. You miss out on SO much of her story when you knock her out. Hell it's possible to fight and KO her without even SPEAKING to her in act 1. By siding with her you get to see exactly how she was under the Absolute's control, how that contrasts with her moments of lucidity both during and after her sex scene, and how it's less the effect of slipping out of mind control that you might be used to seeing in fiction, and more of a crisis of faith for someone deep in a cult. And when you finally reunite in act 2, the dialogue when you rescue her has changed too (my tip: make sure you enter her mind rather than just fighting and killing her captors first) and it acknowledges your previous relationship! It is a fantastic way to start her romance, especially if you're playing Dark Urge. And on top of that you still don't have to commit to a full on "evil" playthrough; I sided with her in my first playthrough as a Tav who was regretful for what happens in act 1 (but still head over heels for her) and the rest of my campaign was not too dissimilar to any other "good" playthrough. Literally do what you want after act 1, but this is THE intended way to romance Minthara, and it is still the best in my not-so-humble opinion. I say it here because I have seen SO many people respond to this advice like "oh nooo but I could NEVER kill the tieflings I just can't BRING myself to" And I don't know how to politely tell them that it is just a game, Minthara is not a Real person, and neither are the Tieflings, please just calm down, you can do this, I believe in you. And if your current Tav/Durge is the kind who Wouldn't, then change them/make a new oc who Would. It's actually not as hard to justify as you think, and it's not a Durge-only sorta course of action. Come on. If you can Ascend Astarion or DJ that Shart, you can do this for Minthy. Please.
I did kill the tieflings with minthara, but I was very dissapointed about the outcome. its only a one night stand with her. you cannot go into a relationship with her, which would be so interesting, mostly when you play the dark urge. The only char I really think is boring, is halsin. I would not mind, if he would not be a companion. and I do not need 2 druids. So I always have him kidnapped in act 3 ;-)
I’m totally planning a run where my character embraces the illithid powers - theming is as someone who doesn’t want anyone to suffer and so takes on the “burden” themselves.
with me, I don't like using the illithid powers on either Tav or Durge not because they aren't powerful or useful or anything, but I don't use them because I'm not a fan of the way they make my character look. Like some undead monster or something. The very last idea you spoke of I'm actually doing and several others have as well. I even have the gameplay up on the character I did it on XD
i mean the thing is that it’s kind of the point that it makes your character “ugly”. it’s part of the whole thing that if you want the illithid powers you have to make sacrifices.
4th playthrough...hah rookie numbers. I stopped on my 10th because could recruit kalrach and get the robe for wyll anymore. Should have never updated the game.
4 bards. On top of constantly insulting enemies, you get a literal travelling band, countless hours they played for different people. Then I did radiant party. Well, Shadowheart really, with 3 martials. They just kept picking up enemies and tossing them back into her Spirit Guardians. Pumped up their str as high as I could, picked up athlete feat as well, so they could jump further to reach people, just to be able to grab them fast. Pump athl to resist being shoved. Each of them was also equipped with sentinel feat so enemies couldn't run away (hit with opportunity attack, they can't move for the rest of the turn). Similarly to what I did with 4 warlocks, just keep reppeling eldritch blasting nearly everyone back into Hunger of Hadar. That one wasn't finished, it got boring really quickly, didn't even finished act 2. But honestly, 4 bards was by far the best run I ever did. They could do anything, and I mean ANYTHING.
Other options/challenges. Pacifists... try NOT to kill anyone. Githyanki Only party... that means max 3 OC but only following and always following the OC suggestions/demands.
The idiot idea is the opposite of most of the characters I make! ^_^" I can't resist keeping Intelligence and Wisdom decent because it's part of ny usual playstyle in RL D&D, and I have a tendency to strategize and/or randomly know something because of all the lore (and actual information) I gave memorized, and have a hard time leaving that out of roleplay. That said, I also have an overall tendency to put low priority on Strength and Charisma unless I'm playing a class focused on them, with Charisma fails probably being my most common thing going wrong in my current playthrough as an unreasonably smart but socially inept Ranger Durge...
I like these ideas! One of my ideas (more for dialogue options) is what I call The Betrayer, or aka "don't give a sh*t" - hand over Astarion, Shadowheart, the artefact, etc. The chaos of not caring. On another note, I just started a playthrough when I had the thought of Pink Diamond from Steven Universe, but make her Durge. It fits her mean streak.
My best playthrought was when I played dark urge as a Druid/Barbarian. The druidic teachings he received pushed him to fight his impulses but his deep barbarian nature and the rage that accompanies it sometimes took over. I played him as a sort of Hulk, who when he goes into a rage unintentionally turns into a bear and shreds everything that moves. Best playthrought ever.
Due to technical reasons I had to start all over a couple times so that I am still in my first playthrough which is for maximum intensity, drama and heavy roleplaying. Getting as much dialog and cutscenes as I can and find as many secrets as possible while following a strict set of chaotic lawful self-imposed extra rules. One day I want to try a more "chaotic neutral" fun playthrough where the "Eleventh Commandment" is more important than actual morals: as long as I don't get caught and prevent my companions from disapproving too much, I'm fine. Steal everything that isn't nailed down, shamelessly exploit game mechanics all the time, use all the tadpole powers, get as many permabuffs as I can. Eat the cake and keep it when ever there is a way. And so on.
For a real challenge I was thinking about doing a playthrough where the party members wouldn't equip any weapons, armor or other trinkets having magical properties, but I'm not sure the endgame would be possible.
Just got done with my drow female , ranger/bard that romanced with minthara the correct and evil way by taking out the grove. By the middle of the game i only had like 5 companions to choose from since the rest were "dealt with" by yours truly and it was an interesting take on the game by going evil w/o the dark urge. The end game tho choosing to rule the elderbrain scene where its just both drows unaffected by the elder brain and smiling at eachother is just so satisfying seeing both drow women live up to that evil aura. It even had astarion and shadowheart scared by the end of it but very good playthrough
i downloaded a new race mod....Kender. (anyone who knows these short folk knows what comes next XD) LOOT GOBLIN RUN! 'whoopse' 'uh, was i NOT supposed to push that?' 'opps....um.....' *pickpocket spree* 'oh, that was YOURS? I thought it was mine' 'I found it, aren't you lucky i saved it from being lost' roleplay runs. create the perfect partner for each of the main companions. including the optional ones. full evil run (if you didn't do that already) make sure everyone goes darkside. naked barbarian halfling mode. (seen them go, they blow up everything via explody barrels XD) just go beastmode on everything. BOOM. in nothing but underwear.
There is a single role that matters if you take illithid powers, wisdom, and you can still overcome it pretty easily. Other than that role, and the cosmetic aspect, there is no reason not to take illithid powers and go half-illithid. I just love having fly to move around the map faster, but the illithid powers are in general super useful and OP.
i mean the big reason i don’t take the illithid powers in most playthroughs is just rp. like most of the characters that i play i just don’t think that they would willingly put more tadpoles in their head. it is fun every once in a while tho
Fun vid! A few I want to try - Isekai Harem BG3 - Use the No Romance Limits & unlimited party size mods and see what happens One Punch Tav - play a minmaxed Monk-Rogue with no equipment at all and try to beat up everything in close combat Mister Knowitall - Githyanki Lore Bard 6 / Knowledge Cleric 5/ Wizard 1. Has more or less every skill. Can cast almost all of the important spells up to level 3 and can learn Wizard spells up to level 6. I’ve enjoyed my power gamer runs; these are sillier characters just to see what happens with less optimized builds.
For the Mr Know It All build, i would suggest 10 Lore Bard for 2 extra magical secrets + more Bard control spells and 1 War Cleric + 1 Wizard for support spells like you mentioned.
@@thomasrosendahl2783 that is an excellent build, and has the advantage of only needing to rely on Charisma as a casting stat (plus the bent circlet of intellect). I was thinking 5 Knowledge Cleric for the 3rd level cleric spells. The downside being that the build is very multi attribute dependent. Of course the extra magical secrets can get the character some very solid spells. Knowledge Cleric also brings Blessings of Knowledge and Knowledge of the Ages. You end up (between Bard, Githyanki, and Knowledge Cleric) with close to the best possible skill set up.
recently did a playthrough where i only used the classes id been ignoring (monk, druid, sorcerer, and bard) and it was so much fun once i got the hang of things. will no longer be sleeping on monk, or sorcerer for twinned haste. still not sold on bard
Fun ideas from my end. Some of them i did or still want to so myself 1) What i once did: Playing a Tymora cleric and making decisions with my companions under the Self fulfillment aspect of that deity. Let companions make their own choices if possible and see what happens. You might get surprised ☘️ 2) Playing Dark urge as a wild magic sorcerer/ Archfey warlock. She didn’t really act evil or good, but mostly made funny or chaotic decisions. I had a ton of fun with that :D 3) Playing a tiefling paladin, taking all the racism in the Emerald grove and then save everyone. The reactions after that are very rewarding actually 4) Playing a bard who kills every enemy possible by making them commit suicide. The comments of companions can be very funny 😂 5) Playing a Druid, who saves the Druids from their own mistakes and show them how it’s done. Just alongside, romancing Halsin in order to date the bear as a bear. Still on my list 🐻 6) Playing the light urge idea as an Aasimar. Trip‘s Whispers of the divine will hopefully make it possible. Still on my list 🪽 7) Playing the weirdest and weakest combo, to see how far they get. Still on my list I hope it can help for inspiration, too ;)
