Functional Bodybuilder VS CrossFit Athlete

After retiring from competitive CrossFit in 2016, people continue to ask me how I would do in competition now that I train solely to look good and move well instead of for performance.
So I dug back into my training journals and took on a full day of competition prep leading into 2016 Regionals, where I placed 3rd on my way to my last CrossFit Games appearance.
I'll show you the differences in how I trained then vs. now, how my nutrition has evolved, and how my times and weights stacked up!

Dont know what to think about that last workout. Very very interesting video, really nice to see you doing those and being still "as fit" as your competitive times. Still, i wonder how i would react if i train as much as today and redo a workout 5 laters and be a few seconds slower. Never thought about it and eventhough this is not the same scenario as i am not an athlete, thank you for bringing that up to my mind. Great video
@MuhammadLaher
@MuhammadLaher 2 года назад
Marcus trains smarter now. Building strength through full ROM and building strength in certain positions, training all muscles not just those needed for CF (example: tibialis). CF competition training is high volume and higher intensity, so it’s understandable to not be close to the levels from those times. However he actually beat some times, and those he did not were only by a few seconds which for me is nothing. In short this video proves that FBB is a way of training smarter, moving well, being injury free, maintaining good levels of fitness, but not going too intense and putting the body through too much!

Marcus your content is top-notch across the board but - and this is just my take - I might consider using a longer lens for your talking-head shots. It feels like you're up in my face juuuuuuuuuuuuust a little too close for comfort with the lens you're using now. Again, just my opinion & I'll keep watching regardless. Marcus in my honest opinion has always been ahead of his time. His methodology and programming doesn’t come from an echo chamber of popular trends and it’s very impressive how he does the analysis himself and based off his experience, he will give his advice. Doesn’t pretend to be anything he is not and yet I don’t think enough people know about my FBB.

Awesome video. I wondered, coincidentally with you, how crossfit athletes would face training after competition. I also wonder, in terms of being healthy, if there is one best specific training program. I hear people say cardio is most important or resistant training, and I wonder what is the benefit of having a good time in a metcon like open 15.5, for example. It must show something, right? Anyway, great video!

I don't have any other social media so I'm going to ask on here. I worked on building my strength up for the past few months with the intention of going back to CrossFit down the road and I started hitting numbers that I was pretty happy with, but like predicted my over fitness started to deteriorate. So for the last month I would have one strength session (enough to maintain some strength or so I thought) per day along with a metcon and some conditioning. Now when I go for a heavy single on any lift I'm struggling bad with 80% of my 1RM. What the heck should I do?
@byza101
@byza101 Год назад
Have you tried progressive overload with your 1RM? Start at say 70% and then go up in 5lb increments. I find that the best way to hit my max, rather than a few warm up sets and then going for it. Happy lifting bro.
