Eddie Hazel the most underated guitarist of all time. He was baby when he joined Funkadelic he had to ask he's mother's permission.

Jimi Hendrix, considered the greatest guitarist who ever lived, said Parliament Funkadelic’s Eddie Hazel was the greatest guitarist who ever lived.

Thank you for acknowledging that. The media of the time made Hendrix, Hazel and Ernie Isley out to be highly competitive against each other, in actuality they were all great friends.

People say this all the time about Hendrix. Hendrix said this person or that person is the greatest guitarist. Not buying it. No offense to Eddie Hazel, who was a fine player.

To this day, Funkadelic fans play this at the gravesites of their love ones. It has for 50 years been a final farewell dedication tribute. Hazel's classic solo's include "Super Stupid" "RED HOT MAMA" "Miss Lucifer's Love" "I wanna Know" "GOOD THOUGHTS BAD THOUGHTS" "Owe you Something Good" "FREE YOUR MIND" "I WANT YOU" "I BET YOU" "You and your folks" Collaborations with Gary Shider on "COSMIC SLOP" and "COMING AROUND THE MOUNTAIN " with Mike Hampton and Shider. THE MAN WAS A LEGEND and is in the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. R.I.P. EDDIE.

When I was 19, I was the kitchen manager of a very busy Tex-Mex and mesquite grill restaurant; we typically did 600 covers both Fri and Sat night plus two bars and patios worth. The radio station we always had on played this every Saturday night at midnight, which was our closing time. Some nights we'd just take a beat and thousand yard stare listening to this.

Maggot Brain is a “Brother Crying His Soul Out…a State of Mind”…song was created to bring one out of distress, the haze of a heroin high…According to #garyshider in a #relixmagazine interview, the creation of #maggotbrain was George putting Eddie into a room surrounded by amps and told him to just play his heart out. #eddiehazel #georgeclinton #maggotbrain #garyshider #parliamentfunkadelic🤟🏽

I know Funkadelic but _NOT_ this tune. *Wow!* A whole gamut of emotions and for a 52 yr old song, it holds up well. It could be the soundtrack of the pandemic. Incredible. 👏🏾✌🏽🖤

To be fair, this song is best when it comes on your car radio at 3:am, while you're far away, heading home, on a dark endless road...

When I saw P-Funk back in the 90's, Eddie Hazel had passed on. But Michael Hampton was straight Fire on this song! As soon as Maggot Brain started, it seemed like at least a thousand people lit up at the same time and a wave of weed smoke drifted through the arena. Then a spotlight hit the metallic paint on Hampton's guitar, and he started wailing away. The whole experience was magical 😎 🎸

1971..and the radio was very much segregated; and, the term “crossover” was still far into the future. With the exception of Jimi Hendrix, there was no such thing as a black rock artist. One which was widely recognized as such. Funkadelic wasn’t heard by white audiences because the industry wasn’t looking for black rock musicians. Even today-53 years later, it’s hard for a classic rock listener to name five black rock artists, that are in rotation on classic rock stations. But…the internet has totally changed the way new music is discovered and circulated. It’s so interesting to have been around long enough to know what’s changed in the industry; and what hasn’t.

We used to call this "head music". Get high, and put stuff like this on. Good times (they were on acid, we just smoked weed).

So the thing I love about Funkadelic, other then all their great music. Is how they had two identities. One more rock sounding like this and the other more funk. Funkadelic and Parliament are the same people for the most part. That is why George Clinton is great, and of course Eddie Hazel... All the great musicians with these two bands.

I hope you read the story of the creation of this masterpiece. How Clinton inspired the motivation of emotions to get Hazel to create this in ONE TAKE !!!!! No one has ever come close to duplicating this song on stage LIVE. Not even Hazel himself. Legends who have claimed to perform MAGGOT BRAIN in concert.... Carlos Santana, Slash, Steve Vai, Lenny Kravitz, Dave Grohl, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Mark Hicks, Ernie Isley, Prince, Lily Hamlin, David Gilmour and Funkadelic's own Mike Hampton, Gary Shider, and Dwayne McKnight.

Another 1st time hear! They are also known as Parliament, and I dig a lot of their tunes! This one is pretty trippy and 🌌🚀 spacey! I really don't know how I feel about it! Although the guitarist is pretty talented and gives off Santana & Jimmy Hendrix vibes! So long!
