As a trained professional musician, who grew up when they played this song during inner city house parties, where folks didn't get shot! A time when folks went out to have a good time and dance, this is without a doubt at the top of the list of the funkiest songs OF ALL TIMES! As a musician every time I listen to it, the complexities of Clinton's vocal arrangements, the genius of Bernie Worrell's musical arrangement, the serious FUNK on the One and of course Phillipe Wynn's incredible vocal vamp and the use of the cuica (what?) no conservatory needed!

When I heard this music for the first time I was in a Detroit night club, back in 1979, I just about lost my mind. I don't know who I dragged onto the dance floor, but we vibrated with excitement. To this day, I drop everything so I can dance. The guitar solo is the best of all time and when it bridges back, so so sweet!

This was a time when the words and musical skills was key in making a hit....now all you have to have is some cursing, some sampled music that not many people remember, and some fine big busted women with a big ole butt to have a hit.....and Hell not even the young people know what they saying......I'll Pass!!!!!!!!!!

While growing up and learning piano I could never quite fathom where the hell did these guys get so many ideas, riffs, synth lines, bass lines, modulations....to this day I'm still awestruck...and this was late 70's....this is what we need to be playing nowadays

This song brings back great memories in my childhood. I was 15 years old in the 10th grade at Arthur hill high school in Saginaw, Michigan. I will always remember knee deep 15 minutes version. Peace and love always.

Long live funk! This reminds me of family in the 70's and so much of what life was like in the city back in the day.

I'm a Funkateer from back in the day! I saw George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic turn out many a concert from Oklahoma City to the countries of Germany to Switzerland and in fine tradition they gave you your money's worth! January 1993 they turned out Cincinnati, Ohio to the point the Police were at the door rocking and let them continue pass their cut off time and then they went back in the dressing room and kept jamming. George had the Brides of Funkenstein with him in Oklahoma City, Dawn Mabry and Lynne stole the show from Sir Nose Devoid of Funk. You damn right they were "TWERKIN" in 1979, where you think it came from. I first saw Funkadelic in 1972 in Frankfort, Kentucky. I didn't know who they were at the time, but I knew I wanted to see them again, especially those two mean lead guitar players Michael Hampton and Gary Shider (rip). I saw them take Funk to Heaven in 1977 in Lexington, Kentucky at Rupp Arena. Tell me they can't turn it out!

Mistress Eventide Solo by Mike Hampton,AKA Kidd Funkadelic.,If you want a guitar solo that's good to your earhole, dig Maggot Brain by the same P-funk crew. Eddie Hazel will make you forget about Carlos****
