Milton Waddams the other two pilots backed him up, so I'm inclined to side with them that the wait was reasonable. Besides, it's just a dick move, and rushing/stressing a pilot responsible for people's lives seems like a terrible idea.

Yeah, safety first, and purple was obviously undisciplined. There could have been all kinds of really good reasons for the green one to not rush. The blue ones were mature, caring about the big picture and basically adding safety to the situation. Dunno how someone with an attitude like the purple one are even allowed into a pilot career. Off radio they can vent whatever they feel they need to (although that's still gonna harm the air of respectability), but throwing ad hominems over radio is just low. It's not helping, not communicating anything but personal impatience.

The purple aircraft is operated by American Airlines which is a mainline international airline, whereas the green aircraft is operated by Envoy Air, a regional subsidiary of American Airlines. He's basically calling pilots working for regional airlines less skilled than those working for major airlines.

Aaron Mills “Majors” have big planes that fly only from big cities to other big cities. “Regionals” have little planes that fly from little cities to big cities (and sometimes from little cities to other little cities close together...) Usually in large geographical areas, you will have a regional that’s allied with a major. This allows you to buy one ticket that will get you from a small city to another small city that’s far away in one day.

@@Rojk it was the same one - but i was confused at first too. the video editing goofedup the color coding of the subtitles at the end so they were blue so it looked like one of the back two pilots (blue airplanes) said it but it was indeed the pink plane, indicated by AAL2270

I'm reminded of a story about a person waiting at a red light. Someone behind them honks the horn even though the light is still red. The driver assumes the light must've turned green and so heads into the intersection and get's t-boned by a car. Kudos on the other pilots for telling the regional to take their time. Just because some jerk is in a rush doesn't mean you should rush your safety checks. I've seen some bad crashes from pilots who took off without flaps set when they rushed their checklist.

Here's how you stop it in its tracks. Once ENV3238 takes off: GND: "American 2270, cross runway 28R, right on Papa, right on Foxtrot, hold short 28R." And then ask your supervisor if someone can relieve you for a comfort break.

Better yet: GND: "american 2270 we are going to need you to cross 28R on zulu victor hold short of taxiway november and when you're ready we have a number for you to copy down" Then after that GND:"american 2270 call the tower"

If I were a passenger I would want to fly with someone who was taking their time and making sure everything was right. The regional jet of course has to be more cautious with extreme because of his size and inability to handle crosswinds and wind shear like the big ole lumbering elephant jets. I hope the American guys felt the sting of the other comments.

Contrary to popular belief, smaller jets handle wind shear better than larger jets. They can accelerate faster and gain more speed with less altitude loss, and their engines spool up to full power faster.

MD-80s can do short international hops too. For a long time, MD-80 variants were the workhorse of the Scandinavian Airlines European services.

I remember delaying our 'regional' flight out of, I think, Richmond Virginia due to storms overhead the field. A non-revving captain from a major airline I won't mention came up to my captain and impatiently told him, 'You can fly in this'! I also remember thinking that, apart from the fact that the guy was lucky we were taking him to work at all after that, he had some serious balls and a total lack of judgement for doing such a thing. Kudos to my captain for refusing, I have a feeling I would have reported him. No one needs to be on an aircraft flown by a guy with such poor decision making.

2min = E145 Engine warm up. Min time before you can apply T/O thrust. 1-Departures suspended due to Wind shear. 2-Envoy shutdown one engine to save fuel during delay. 3-Tower gives the all clear to resume departures. 4-Envoy needs 2 min for engine start and warming. 5-Mainline guy is a jerk, and his FO is considering calling in Fatigued just to get away from the turd ball of joy.

In this industry, safety really is the most important thing to the pilots and crew. If he felt it wasn’t right to take off yet then he was being a good pilot. Says a lot about the AAL pilot and the culture at AAL for that pilot to get mad at another pilot for being safe.

If you've ever watched the accident case study series, #1 thing that jumps to mind is NEVER underestimate the weather, and ALWAYS err on the side of caution. Aircraft 2 is an absolute prick and should be reporting for trying to pressure another pilot into taking off when he clearly isn't comfortable pushing the take off quite yet. All it takes is one time to get people killed.

I love how 2270 fucked up his basic read back. There have been times I've had the shits with other pilots decisions but I always try to put myself in their shoes. No doubt I've pissed off other pilots to, they didn't know why I had to make the choices I did so supporting each other goes a long way.

I was eny crj ord base for years and never heard anything like this. For the most part mainline pilots are very respectful, but there’s always a few of these old bastards that forget where they came from, and don’t want to get off their high horse. The best part is how small this industry is and what goes around definitely comes around.
