@@tacituskilgore8859 i feel that but they (the band) got put into that vulnerable position because Kirk didn't stand up for himself, let james and lars have massive egos... i mean it's still the same nowadays but James especially is more respectful of his bandmates nowadays.
Kirk is just there for the ride, always has been, you can see even nowadays when he introduces himself as "Kirk, from Metallica!", I think he's the biggest Metallica fan in the band.
Poor Kirk. He just wants to shred, smoke a joint, and catch some waves man. Just tell him what time to be at practice and he will be there with a smile
kirk was honestly just stuck between james and lars fighting. in the documentary “some kind of monster” i dont know if anyone else noticed but there was a clip where he was actually tearing up while they were arguing
I seriously felt soooo bad for Kirk. I know first hand what it’s like to be in the middle when ya two besties be arguing or fighting. You’re like “do I mind ma business, do I get involved.” As much as James and Lars were struggling and battling, Kirk was struggling two. And the other two didn’t put mind into it because you know, they into they own pettiness and that’s the truth. And so glad they were able to speak up and be more open. I will say this, I’m glad Lars began to catch on to the Therapist they had. He began defending James and his decision making. That was the break through they needed. Realizing no matter what, they ALL got each other’s backs.
Now imagine it being your livelihood and how you support your family. Then thinking about the band breaking up over bullshit ego garbage. Yeah that's probably 90 PERCENT of the grey hairs he has now is due to that era.
The two moments that always make me howl with laughter every time: Lars-"Life is an eternal birthday party for someone else." Dave-"He pushed you down and he hurt you. And I made sure he didn't hurt you again."
The funniest part of the entire doc is when Lars plays a new track for his father and you can see the visible dissatisfaction in his face when he hears it🤣🤣
Hate it or love it St Anger was key for their recovery. They had to blow up before they could reconstruct their original sound. And now we have Hardwired because of that.
...which is a shitty mediocre album with uninspired drums, way too long songs with too many riff at once and a whole play safe record. Metallica really lost their focus. They collect riffs for 8 years and try to throw them in instead of going into the studio for 1 year and really refining their skills and practice to play better, sound better and just advance. Im a long time metallica fan but right now its just so disappointing to see what has become of them. Dont get me wrong, they ve come to terms with their problems and they are cool guys, they care alot about the fans but theyve become a people pleaser and turn their heads in directions with the least resistance...it kinda hurts to like them anymore
@@P3rm4frost What band stays on top for 40 decades or something? Thats impossible, just accept that they did enough in their lifetime. Megadeth and Maiden also deserve a lot of respect for example, but take a look at the majority of their stuff. Do you see ppl sh1t1ng on Sabbath because their last stuff isnt good like the beggining?
@@AK-vs9nr As i said, i have no problem with Metallica, they are still one of my all time favorite bands. But i think they should stop mediocre albums and just be on tour. Everything sounds so forced like "oh my god we need a record lets go into the studio quickly" and then they throw in all the riffs the have because they cant focus on some tight short hard hitting songs. The song "hardwired to self destruct" was so great because they had one riff, sit down for one week, put down some drums and lyrics and boom - done! I think metallica dont suck, they shouldnt be the top band forever and be loved by everyone. I understand that. All im asking for is a little more time to put in their craft and little bit of me-time where they dont focus on the public, media, fans, the yes sayers, the critics and just direct their concentration on the songs. Bob rock kicked their asses massively and they had to argue alot to really satisfy and impress Bob. I think thats missing nowadays. They need some tension, some conflicting...say it how you want but all their albums before 2000 were only so great because of all the fighting and screaming of hetfield rock and Ulrich. I really want to like this band and i dont wanna quit of them. I do worship them still and they can do all they want. But look at bands like exodus, overkill, kreator,....you can stil hear that theyve practice a LOT to sound better. Hetfield is the only one where i get that vibe that hes actually trying to push the band forward and plays better than before. All the others stick to their guns and just enjoy the ride... Im not hating the band or the fans....each to their own, really...maybe its time for me to move on...but i follow this band through their darkest times for almost 25 years now..i can actually understand reload load st anger and all the whacky stuff during the 90s, its not about that. I would love to hear some of that easy going vibe again. But i guess my expectation is a little bit too much to ask
@@P3rm4frost You're well in your right to have an opinion, but I just have to say that this take is full of shit. Now, you can say you don't like the album and why, but come on: - Too many riffs at once?! There are fewer riffs in one song compared to Stuff on Justice, Death Magnetic, and even St. Anger. And even then, they're fairly paced and Spaced within the songs. - They did spend a year(s) recording the record, and put the time into experimenting with riffs, rhythms, melodies, etc. The Playing and overall performance of the record was top-notch, Unless of course you were expecting Justice level instrumentation (by which they peaked as instrumentalist). - You call it Mediocre and Uninspired, I call it an Overall Good Time. To Me, it speaks of a band having a lot of fun with the writing and playing; and with the added production, it just sounds fresh. The Energy is there in the Thrash songs, and they play the Heavy songs with Pounding Conviction. And a safe record? Hardly. If they wanted to play it safe, they'd copy the formula's and ideas from previous works. 1st track is short as opposed to a longer song with a fancy intro like other albums, They did 12 songs instead of 8-9 like the 80s, A song like ManUnkind has an Odd-time signature Groove, etc. And People Pleasing? Explain. Cause Frankly, unless you're talking stuff Like Anniversary shows, They Hardly ever simply cater to the whims and Demands of anyone and the path they've been on since 2003 is anything but of little resistance. They're Metallica, Life is there's, and they live it their own way (Cheesy, I know, but it's true). If you can't see that, then feel free to wallow in your dissatisfaction with the band and let me and others enjoy Them for what they are. Either Bow out and Cherish What you valued in the band, or Keep Sticking around and enjoy the ride Until it Inevitably ends.
He’s so sweet I wouldn’t be surprised if he did someday. He’d be throwing wah pedals everywhere and screaming. We’d be like, called it, y’all drove him over the edge
that’s what I’m saying, he’s too good for them I mean their ego is too big to handle and Kirk is just happy to be there, sitting and listening, he doesn’t want to be the center of attention (unlike LARS and James) that’s why Kirk has always been my favorite member of the band, he’s very kind and sweet like you said
Kirk kept the band together. Not intentionally, but if he were any other guitar player with a massive ego, this band would've absolutely imploded into the abyss.
3:33 like a spinal tap scene i swear. I cant stop laughing. Lars- "OW! Dont ever do that again! EVER!" Producer 1- " will you put some fucking shoes on?" Lars- "dont you tell me what to do!" Kirk- "YOU shouldnt keep YOUR foot under HIS wheels!"
3:48 Lars: "You gona beat the life out of it? like you've done before? you have a lot of experience with that!" Bob: "ok well we'll just leave it out of time" LMAAAAO engineers\producers felt that
12:50 When James says: “Just rock man. Metal’s in my veins” - it’s called iron (the way he says that statement makes me laugh because he is trying to sound serious and tough, but doesn’t sound of the sort)
Its cuz he’s being ironic (no pun intended), he’s referring to how he used to think, when he actually believed in that statement, when in the documentary he’s found better ways to deal with his feelings, and he’s comparing it to how jason is acting around that time, which is why he says “so I can relate to maybe where he’s coming from”. He’s not *actually* being serious there. Just thought I’d clear that up :)
2:30 James, brother...8 hours? That's a regular day at work for every person on Earth. Lars doesn't care about his family because he stays at the studio for 8 hours and works on the record? lol
@@raphaelrampinelli8413Imo, Lars isn't a fiend, just self-absorbed, a bit cocky @ times. 'How DARE he quit the band!', not Cliff, was on his mind imo.
Never knew how difficult it could be being in a band. So many levels of personalities. Can be so great with great memories and so tough with confrontations. It like being forced to work together no matter what.
When I first saw the film, I was shocked at the discordant appearance of the band members. As human beings, our minds change subtly with age, and sometimes we become sensitive and reactive to the ordinary things of daily life, or we lose ourselves and wander off in search of affection. However, as a fan, I am more than happy that they have reassessed themselves and regained themselves and united again to continue their band activities.
@@JRC99 while I thoroughly disagree with that statement and I think it was just poorly worded from the get go, if you feel the urge to smack someone just for saying that I think it's you having insecurities about that, who the fuck cares about what James Alan Hetfield or whoever has to say about your ways if you know deep within that you're caring with your family
I didn't love the album as a whole, but, I appreciate that era.03, summer sanitarium. That was my first concert. Limp Bizkit killed it right as the sun was setting and Metallica was excellent that show
@@crusheverything4449no.im 37. I love limo Bizkits first two albums. After they got real big, with chocolate starfish, and "rollin rollin" and "miiyywayyy. Do things miyywaahyyyy" was when they we to shlt. But those first two albums are great. Theyre full of very cool, original skillful and talented musicianship, from drums to the bass to the guitar to some of the great lyrics andor vocal deliveries.
The only thing that I remember about Limp Bizkit at Summer Sanitarium 2003 is at one of the shows someone threw a lemon that hit Fred Durst in the balls... so a couple weeks later when they came to Seattle, the second Fred hits the stage like 30 people from the pit threw lemons at him. It made me laugh thinking about how many people chose to fill their limited pocket space for a long sweaty day in the sun with lemons solely from their dislike of Fred Durst 😂
even though i’ve always liked st anger seeing how much of a literal meme it is when it was being made really makes me understand why it is the way it is
