I'm really worried about Jame's hydration he's cracking open a drink at the beginning of the episode. If only there was another way he could've told me he was hydrated.
Respectfully (and i dont know if anyone reads these), Furiosa cutting off her map arm is a significant moment for her character because she is forced to choose survival in that moment over her dream of returning home.
Bit late on commenting, but I genuinely didn’t realise that until I read your comment. Thanks for giving me a greater appreciation of an already amazing movie!
As soon as Rectus paid specific attention to the map tattoo I knew that at some point she'd have to give up her dream for safety by cutting off her arm. I figured it was going to be earlier in the movie though
I think why comedic actors turned dramatic is more convincing than the reverse is because as a comedian, you already have to have an inmate sense of timing. There's a whole method to it that comes so naturally whereas actors have to train more for that. Many comedians call it "the blue harvest"
OHH he did it again! he opened up a beverage again! how long can he keep this up?! Maso was right, people are going to worry about James being too dehydrated. I'm concerned for his health.
Those complaining that Rian Johnson ruined Star Wars are giving too much credit to the force awakens and all the prequels, where "Just Okay" was their high water mark.
I mean Return of the Jedi and even A New Hope don't stand up super well to me on rewatch now. There's good bits in all of the movies, they pioneered VFX, and were very influential on pop culture, but there's so much better stuff out there to consume. I'd say taken as a whole maybe 10% of the Star Wars franchise is legitimately good, and that's including pre-Disney expanded universe which was just as hit or miss. There just wasn't much quality control, the comic books were cheap and poorly drawn, most of the games are trash...
@@SuzakuX I agree with that. Hope was the right movie for its time but is not timeless. Empire on the other hand is a legitimately good movie. Return's B plot is not good but the Luke story arc concludes in a satisfying way. They are certainly better together than apart with Empire being the tent pole holding the entire thing up. Nothing since then has surpassed even the worst of the trilogy though.
I honestly thought they were going to pull some kind of Dementus is Max twist at the end. Like we see him broken down, left in the desert, and then he gets into that car from the start of Fury Road
The Elsa Patacki thing I'm glad you honed in on it but they do that with so many minor characters throughout Furiosa where there's just an implied backstory and you see them in further points of development later. Toejam, The 'Octoboss', and that little lackey guy Dementus bosses around all have a lot of subtle storytelling around them.
I enjoyed Furiosa more than I thought I would. The expanded world building was great. I liked that they took their time to build up characters and their motivations. Some of the CGI was wonky, but not as bad as I was expecting. Definitely worth seeing in the theater.
In regards to Praetorian Jack just being a normal dude, Miller explained that Jacks parents were soldiers that served under Joe when he was a colonel. Probably why he gotta skip the whole Warboy stuff and it was probably his parents who used to drive the convoy
tbh, the only ad I saw for Furiosa was at the Elizabeth Street tram stops, and I I've been all about the end of the city, and around Knox and Fgate SC. Melbourne central had Extra gum ads on the clock tower (Dune Pt 2 and Little Mermaid remake had massive posters and ads running on the screen) and there wasnt any unique flags at the imax when I went to see it. Feels like WB wanted it to fail commercially
1:28:31 James I think you watched the same two movies as I did suspiciously right when they had good quality rips on the great seas lol 😅😂 I enjoyed both also 😊
Just as a touch of counter to what you folk were discussing at 1 hour 15, I like the lore in this, but I also love the adherence to show don't tell. Too often these days we, emblematic of them awful shorts that explains on screen what you're seeing, Rae not lore dumped; I really appreciated that.
Mr. Sunday Movies doesn't sound too good. I'd be nice if he told us that he needed to a take pee just as the podcast starts; just to let us know that he is properly hydrated 🤔👍
cool you guys get it it never relly was about max its camp fire storys after the bomb in his world i loved this movie its the thunderdomb water world one but mann so good to see goos action and i think this movie is ideas he has had over last 30 years put togther also by 3 one thay never call him max if i rember also i herd miller talk in like 95 and whats werid is he kept talking aboy cyber human parts and it was rugder howerd vs mel at the timebut her arm is still from that movie
these larrikans should watch new Beetlejuice first and then the old one second. That way we can see if the new movie can stand on it's own merits. Plus no other channel would attempt such a heinous idea
X-men was originally “The X-men” and it looks like the first time it was “Uncanny X-men” was issue 114 From October 1978 (coincidentally the month I was born).
SPOILERS!! Hey James and Maso, I really enjoyed Furiosa, surprised you didn't talk about the peach seed that came up regularly in the movie. That was so thematic and poignant. Movie starts with young-young furiosa taking the peach from a tree in The Green place that felt so biblical like taking the fruit from the tree of knowledge and knowledge of this fruit could lead the Savages back to this green place which is why they must be stopped. She keeps that seed with her as one memory that she has of her home other being the map on her hand. She had to cut off her arm to escape as it was the one that had got damaged and Dementus hung her up on that arm. The map that was her connection to getting back home was gone and only thing left was the peach seed which she used to plants on Dementus. The seed was given to her by mother with the promise to keep the green place alive. I loved how vague the ending is. she might have just killed him and used his remains as means to try and grow another green place(maybe?) before she realizes that it isn't and she must escape with the bride. Atleast it's hopeful. Keeping him alive and using her last memory of her mother to seek vengence against the guy that killed her to exact life long torture shows that she got consumed by her revenge and becoming just like Dementus predicted.
Dementus viewed Furiosa as his child and children are sometimes referred to as the fruit of ones loins. Dementus was only really capable of destruction and he'd change his personality or betray his closest allies or give away his heir if he saw an opportunity to further his goals so he believed that when Furiosa hunted him down she shared his malice and ruthlessness and his idea that hope is worthless but in the end Dementus ends up giving her the seed of hope that inspired her to free the wives, the end very literally showed the fruit of his loins being hope.
By the way, play Fortnite this week season. Imagine the Mad Max Xbox game, vehicle battle to the last man standing. It’s almost to fun. I make myself stop and play Zelda until my heart rate slows down.
Cinema is just not the same anymore. I dont think the box office should be a repesentation on how good the movie actually is. I haven't been to a theatre in years as oppose to early 2000s when i was seeing like 10 movies a year in theatres. They just arent the weekend outing like they use to be
Dude I am so old that I still have the DVD documentary "The smashing machine" that I bought in a sunset video store that was one of the only place that I could get overseas mma videos like pride fc
James you really need to start taking your hydration seriously, your fans are concerned for you. I think we were all hoping you would tell us in some way that you were hydrated
1:28:23 if you liked immaculate you’d probably like the first omen, like the one that also came out this year around the same time and is also about nuns on the run
IIRC the etymology actually means "little thief," same root as ferret. But her tribe was the Vulvalini and they knew her as Furiosa when she reunited with them, so yeah.
Think the reason she loses arm in an accident instead of getting chopped off while tortured is because Hollywood won’t write a female protagonist that’s submissive to another character, especially a male character. Therein lies part of the recent problems. 🤔
U bet ur aussie Asses I wanna here u guys talk about Bad Boys Ride or Die. 1st one is 90s cheese 2nd is frenetic and self indulgent 3rd is surprisingly great and coherent. Best of the franchise fs
25:14 this reminded me for some reason theres this ufc fighter named Mark Hunt:p and the poor man is from new zealand...its safe to assume the hell he went through in school was the reason he became a ufc fighter...
I dunno-as a kiwi who used to regularly catch the train through Sydney's Western Suburbs I can tell you plenty of the folks boarding in Penrith and Blacktown spoke in what could very charitably be called a 'broad' accent. You might have some milieu-bias hanging out with a lot of inner city & media types.
Spoiler: I think the point of her losing her arm is to explain why she took another 10-20 years to get back to the green place in Fury Road. Also possible someone found the arm map and that's why it's ruined in Fury Road,
Spoilers for Furiosa So I really liked Jack. Not just as a character, but also I think it kinda plays into the idea of "we're hearing these stories retold as oral tradition and these are the folk heroes of the wastes,". I could see it being that as time goes on and the stories are retold his role just gets attributed to Max eventually. Kinda like in real life how it's suspected that stories of multiple different outlaws and folk heroes have been rolled into the legend of Robinhood over time.
26:05 when was the last time he did some acting… we all knew 😭😭 it makes it better that Maso couldn’t even name his last movie 😂 and tbh, neither can I
