Furnace Heat Cuts off after 5 to 15 minutes Possible Easy Fix! 

The thickness of the filter could cause the limit switch to malfunction, too. Most furnaces cant function thoroughly with thick air filters.

It is not the limit switch in my case. I have a similar problem, furnace turn off around 10 minutes and turned out it was the flame sensor, clean the flame sensor fixed the issue.

My furnance kicks off about 10 mins after it runs then the fan will run for about 2 mins and the furnace will kick back on and finish heating and then will be fine till it heats again. I have had 2 different companies here.

My furnace won’t stay on. I have to reset it and will only be on until it reaches the set temp. Then won’t turn on again until I reset it again. Any tips?

Nothing to do with the switch. The switch is either good or bad. The pressure or the limit switch or any switch switch is the most unnecessary repair as well as trhe most miss diagnosed. 95% of the times the switch was fine. Simply test it for continuity and voltage and you will know. The problem may be the inducer fan ( the small fan) which can be dirty, weak, intermittent, weak wire connection, or likely have a bad seal between the fan and the wall of the furnace.

My furnace has the same problem, so I put a hot plate under the receiver that is the ceiling and it gets warm to pull the air through. The air gets very in air duct and doesn't turn off. It blows the warm air around. As soon though as turn the burner on after about 5 minutes it shuts off. It takes a bit to come back on. The duct stays hot but doesn't shut down with hot but does with burner on. Any ideas?

This exact thing is happening right now with my lennox. Should i check the flame sensor first or no?

Hey question my furnace is runing like normal and then it shuts off the flame and turns off my ecobee 3 thermometer then the boards indicator light blinks 4 xs saying its an open limit switch or limit switch and after 10 mins restarts the flame and thermometer I cleaned the flame sensor, the igniters working properly none of the other 4 sensors are tripped the small fan runs but im not sure if my capacitor or big blower is running. what could cause the hardwired ecobee 3 thermostat to keep shutting off? I replaced the 7inch long limit switch and its a goodman furnace s lil older but ran fine for 13yrs that ive lived here also clean airfilter and the one before that was clean and not that thick. also had my ducts and lines and furnace cleaned out by a company a year ago. Thanks in advance.

Being a college instructor in basic to advanced heating air conditioning and refrigeration systems, I know just a few things about these systems. The most common cause of a furnace cutting out on the high limit switch is insufficient airflow, such as crushed flexible ducts or restrictive ducts. The purpose of the high limit switch is to protect the appliance from overheating. Replacing the high limit switch will not solve your problem. Limit switches rarely fail and if the do, it's in the safe position. Call a professional and and it could save your life.
