Hi Everyone! In todays video, I'm going to show you all how I went about my most recent furniture flip by using a DIY wood bleach technique! This is my first in-depth furniture transformation where I take you along step by step and show you how I transformed this wood veneer desk that I got on Facebook Marketplace for FREE! To match my style of home decor, I wanted the desk to look old and vintage. I wanted to veneer to resemble old primitive wood that had been bleached by the sun. So by doing this fun DIY wood bleaching technique I think I nailed it! Don't forget to stay tuned until the end because I share a mini home decor styling tutorial with budget decor. After the bleach you need to neutralize it with a 50/50 vinegar and water mixture. I’m surprised you did not have a reaction with your finish. 🙂

Jenna, you have a talent, for sure. You could travel and do interior design also. I wouldn't give up flying...just think of the treasures you could add to your home. The free flight benefits are hard to give up; I know. We were an airline family and our kids got to go places we could never have afforded otherwise.

Always use water based to avoid the yellow oily colour. Any varnish with spf also contains yellow pigment which is what protects the piece from the uv rays. Ive totally binged watched all your vids, im soooo happy i found you!

I watched this twice. Once to see exactly how you did this, but again to try and figure out what color the outside of your house is. I know you love Sherwin Williams like I do. Can you share? We're about to have our exterior painted and I going back and forth with colors. I was thinking either Repose Gray or Magnetic Gray. Helllp!!!...And thank you...Im doing this to a few of my pieces. Hi! I was inspired by your video and decided to try it on our dinning table. I believe ours is real cherry wood (red) I’ve already done one cost of citruStrip and it looks like all ot did was remove the clear coating? 😢 the table still basically looks the same! I even left the citruStrip over night because oft didn’t look like it was working. I decided to apply a second layer and I am now waiting I hopes that the second layer works. Help? Also I just saw what you used to clean out the gunk, i dont have that same solution what other solutions can you use to wipe off the citruStrip? Thanks

Beautiful outcome, that is an amazing transformation. I haven't tried household bleach but think I'm going to give it a try seeing how well your desk turned out. I've used actual wood bleach but it takes just as many applications and costs a lot more. If you haven't already discovered it other strippers work better than Citristrip, and most people use a piece of cardboard to collect the mess as they strip, makes clean up a lot easier =)

Looks amazing! I put my bleach in a spay bottle I find it easier. Also I use soft wax rather than a sealer, and it doesn't leave a yellow tone.

Actually wood bleach would have saved you many coats. Household bleach is not strong enough. Love the wax idea😁

*Well Done* . Jenna, this piece came out amazing! I am in process of sanding down all of my 1965 luan doors, applying stain and sanding most of it off for a rustic weathered look. It's A LOT of work, but so worth it. I used a matte poly to finish one door, it still had a sheen which I didn't love. I am going with the Varathane finishing wax in clear matte. Love your channel and style!

I went thru my whole house and sanded every door and the entire kitchen…what a job! But like you said, so worth the time and the mess. I left it the bare wood color throughout and just waxed everything and so far so good! ☺️. And it hardly costs anything, just sandpaper and an orbital sander. Basically gave the whole house a new look for just a few hundred dollars and a few weeks’ time. TIP for anyone wanting to do this: sand down something small, or get a piece of raw lumber and get it paint matched at the hardware store. Then you can take a tiny brush and cover those tiny places that are agonizing to sand. I thought of this brilliant idea toward the very end of my project. 😉

I'm working on a bleach project but when I re-sand it goes right back to yellow. Did you neutralize the bleach with vinegar? Is it stinking up the house?

No I never used vinegar and didn't sand it after bleaching it!

Came out beautiful. Would you do this method on a kitchen table? Would the seal/wax you used be sturdy enough for kitchen table. Thinking of doing this for my kitchen table & chairs. I have that dark color the table was originally and looking to change the color to look

I'm not sure but if I had to bet one way or the other, I would say no. Not with this sealing technique anyway. I'm sure you could strip it and bleach it and then you could try something else to seal it that's a bit stronger.
