Guys, I was not prepared. This one was heavy.
Mind blowing performances by Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena, and Jon Bernthal. I mean, COME ON! What a cast!

6:41 The reason for them being mean to him originally is because they probably have seen so many of their friends and comrades die at this point they don't want to get close to another person just to see them die. The harshness is a result of war which is unforgiving, men which are hardened at this point. So a little fear is just the fire he needs to temper him and try to prepare him mentally for what he might see. Sort of to create a shell for him to hide in. Otherwise a fresh mind going into combat might literally collapse and he might literally go insane. Men are good at creating barriers in their minds to protect against horrors he might witness. So really they are doing him a favor.

@9:10 the green bullets are called tracer rounds. Used for the gunner to get a better picture of where his bullets are going/hitting. Usually there would be a tracer bullet per every few rounds.

"Ideals are peaceful. History is violent." Fun Fact: All of the extras are British military or former military. One scene had 350 extras. Gun Enthusiast Fact: Brad Pitt shoots several German soldiers with a German-made Sturmgewehr 44, also known as a StG 44, the world's first successful assault rifle. Tank Enthusiast Fact: The second time a genuine Tiger I tank has been used in the production of a WWII film. It features "Tiger 131" from the UK's Bovington Tank Museum, the only fully functioning Tiger I tank in the world. Historical Fact: Despite the dramatic ending, it should be mentioned that the Ordnance Battalion attached to the 2nd Armored Division would have had Fury cleaned, painted inside, patched, repaired, and released in about 48 hours. The Sherman tanks seen in this movie were considered the weakest of tanks at that time period. However, the L55 M1A2 76mm gun mounted on Fury was capable of penetrating the front armor of the Tiger tank at ranges up to 700 meters, more if HVAP ammo was used.

During initial training soldiers who will serve in combat specialties are treated more harshly than those who will be in service and support, such as a clerk typist, so they are better prepared for what they'll have to do. Having a totally green service guy inserted into a combat team would require some fast toughening up, both physically and mentally, meaning zero hand holding. A similar character is in the excellent war movie "Saving Private Ryan".

I think the best thing this film portrays is that war is not some honourable thing where the “good guys” are all lovely and heroic. And the “bad guys” are all terrible and evil. In war everyone gets dirty, everyone does terrible things and no individual soldier, sailor or airman wins in war as an individual you just try to survive.

@freedomefighterbrony9053, Actually the Tiger I was surprisingly quite good in mobility for such a heavy (56 ton) tank in WW2 and it actually had superior flotation on soft ground than the Sherman due to its much wider tracks. It's engine was not great to push such a weight but of handled with care break downs could be reduced. The overall operational average % of Tigers in 1944/45 was around 70%. Good for a heavy tank. Ergonomics were excellent.

It pretty well universally sucked being a replacement. Common theme in many of these, people wouldn't want to get to know you. Most part your training is abbreviated but if you had a specialty role you would get that. My grandfather was a replacement waist gunner on b17, did a few weeks of flight and aerial gunnery training then off to Italy, few weeks later, his plane was shot down over Bleschhammer and POW for the rest of the war. You were expected to come and go, especially in the high casualty roles like aircrew. Required to fly 35 missions but your life expectancy was around 10 although that improved slightly towards the end.

This story is loosely based or i should say inspired by Audie Murphy, a US Army Medal of Honor recipient who utilized a M10 tank holding off the enemy. He was a lieutenant who told the men to go to the tree line while he stayed behind, like Don did at the end there. In the Army there is an award based on him that is given to soldiers.

The German soldier was wearing an American coat and he was more than likely firing at The Americans which very loosely could be described as him hiding who he is to be able to get close and kill Americans (again very loose definition but considering the American soldiers were ambushed and a lot of them were killed by these Germans they didn't really mind and let such a loose definition slide by) therefore he would get the same treatment as basically a spy would get which means that if you get caught you're going to be executed and can be executed on the spot Also the Green 'lasers' are tracer rounds there to show the Gunner where his bullets are going since the gun vibrate so much when firing this makes it so that they don't really have to look down the sights of a gun but still know where they're shooting And a reason why they stayed to protect the crossroads against the soldiers is because if they let them go past without a fight than that large Battalion was headed straight for Cook's, doctors, nurses, wounded soldiers, etc (it is stated in the movie but people often missed it because it passes really quick) And at this point the movie Germany had mobilized as many people as it could into the military which included a lot of farmers and food was often confiscated to give to the military which is why the eggs and cigarettes scene with the two German women is the way it is Hope this helped with a few of your questions ^^

Training in the military has become more in depth as time has gone on. Prior and during WW2 command roles had more training. Good commanders passed their knowledge on to the people under them. Now days the at least in the US military troops are highly trained, their commanders even more so. The green you were seeing is tracer ammunition. It has a coating that glows/burns when fired to make aiming the weapon easier. Note every 3rd or 5th round is a tracer depending on the country. Armies are supposed to not shoot prisoners BUT in WW2 German SS troops were executed when ever caught because of a couple incidents where the SS massacred Allied soldiers who had been captured. The Tiger tank is Tiger 131. The last operational Tiger tank left in the world. Tigers were incredibly well armored. There was a Tiger on the Eastern Front (Russia) that I have seen photos of that had the pock marks of over 50 hits from Russian weapons. One German tanker, Kurt Knispel an unsubstantiated claim of 165 tank kills over his career. In Europe in some countries you will find the remains of tanks on the side of the road preserved as memorials to the men who died in them. You can also find grave sites that are like this as well. Tributes to the allied soldiers are everywhere. One of the most touching is there is a new bridge named De Oversteek in Nijmegen. The bridge incorporates 48 pairs of street lights, one for each American soldier who died in the crossing. Every sunset the pairs of lights on the bridge illuminate at the pace of a slow march from the South bank to the North. The same direction the soldiers frantically paddled in canvas dinghies Since Oct. 19, 2014, a Dutch veteran has walked across the bridge, starting at a memorial on the south bank ending on the opposite bank. When the Dutch military veterans started the Sunset March, a veteran would walk alone across the bridge at first. Word spread and locals would join the lone marcher. People from all over the world learned about this and contacted the organizers of the march, asking if they could walk in silence alongside the veteran.

Well, if you wanna see a heroic man in war not killing anyone, then you HAVE to check out Hacksaw Ridge, directed by Mel Gibson and Starring Andrew Garfield (if you haven't seen it already). It's a true story, and the movie actually had to water down the hero's accomplishments as a combat medic because the true facts are even more incredible. It's definitely worth diving back into a war movie or 2 😅 and if you've already seen it, hopefully you'd agree.

I mean at least try to put yourself in a position of these tank crews instead of applying a modern sense of school fairness to a pool of blood, and thinking what they're doing is wrong. His inaction would, were this a real story and it continued, have killed more people.

I’d say as an actor for a good performance you need to get into the headspace. I’ve only done community and university theatre but I love it and I found for myself if I was doing a dramatic role or playing a villain, I really had to put myself into what that character would be like, which I can say does affect you a little. I had a role once where the script had me as a jilted lover who ended up unaliving my costars new man. It was probably a week after wrap where I still felt it.

To me. The best part about this movie is the German tank scene. This may be the only movie that used an actual working German Tiger tank. Most other movies use mock ups to make it look like a Tiger. Or just ignore it completely and use a different tank and just call it a Tiger (looking at you 1960's movie Battle of the Bulge) The Tiger in this movie is borrowed from the Bovington Tank museum (know as Tiger 131). There is a video "The Tiger that wouldnt die". In Russia, this Tiger spent 6 hours in combat. Took a multitude of hits. Managed to drive itself back 60km to safety. They counted up the hits. The tank was hit 252 times. The tank was a write off but the crew survived.

The US greatly underestimated its need for infantry(and the ferocious casualty rate) and greatly overestimated the need for certain support jobs like anti-aircraft(We achieved air dominance before D-Day), Chemical Warfare troops and lots of administrative jobs. Hence, thousands of men were hastily retrained and shoved into infantry units as individual replacements, sometimes during the middle of fights. Needless to say, this was suboptimal. Often with only cursory weapons training, lacking the extreme physical fitness required to march under heavy loads day after day, unused to the lack of shelter, warm food and sleep, without the unit cohesion and trust bonds developed in hard lengthy training, they suffered brutally during and after the war.

While I love this movie, there are some things that should be taken of note. First is the statement of heavy losses to American armor. This is partially true, while early M4 Shermans did have issues with "Brewing up",(Tank catching fire and ammo exploding) this rapidly stopped with the addition of wet stowage. Most cases, while the tank might have been knocked out, the crew survived more often than not due to the ergonomics of the tank and how easy it was to escape from the vehicle. I encourage you to look up Nicolas Moran (The Chieftain) channel, he is an expert and is privy to a lot of old war documents that have been declassified. The Tiger tank in the movie is a real PzKw VI Tiger I, the only one in the world that still runs. Most tigers that you see in the movies are mock ups, mostly on a T34 chassis. Tiger 131 resides and is shown to the public in Bovington England. Final note, while yes it was considered that the Tiger I's weak point was considered to be the rear, it was actually the lower side that was the weak point. Also, The shermans that were engaging the tiger were mostly armed with the low velocity 75mm gun, and no, the gun could not penetrate the armor in the front unless at near point blank range. Fury how ever was mounting a 76mm high velocity gun. At the range they were depicting in the film, Fury would have punch holes in that tank for days.

I served on tanks and was stationed in Germany in the 90's when I served in the Army. The one thing I really loved about this film is the interaction of the crew of the tank. That is a real thing for us, we are hard on each other, we have to be, we all depend on each other knowing that the guy next to us have each others back. We are family, even now, 30 years later, I still keep in touch with all of my brothers. and yes, we gave each other a lot of crap. But we knew we could depend on each other without question. Also to answer a question you had, yes, we do train a lot on tactics for the tank, and how to work with other groups like infantry and artillery. We have to. And also, yes, we are given orders to follow, but we are also given leeway to carry out those orders.

The red and green "lights" from the bullets are called tracer rounds, they are mounted about every 5-10 rounds, its to help the gunner walk the shot in on the target as automatic heavy weapons have high recoil and move the gun off target. It also allows other gunners to see where a target is and concentrate fire on a specific location.

@erichelvie8524 Without HVAP (which was rare and hadn't been replaced in US 2nd Armored Division after Operation Grenade the month before) even the Sherman 76mm struggled against the Tiger I frontally beyond 300 yards. Fury had no chance to penetrate it frontally at the 800 yards initial range. Conversely the Tiger could have eaten all those Shermans for fun. Tiger I had effective frontal armour of circa 115mm to 130mm when the angling (24 degrees on the nose plate) and nickel steel of 265 Brinell Hardness is taken into account. Seeing as Fury and the other Shermans are themselves angled when they are firing at it after closing, the Tiger I is oblique to them. That automatically takes its front armour up to 150mm or more. Fury isn't getting through that without HVAP. Never.

I promise I’m not missing that much while I’m talking, it just looks like I talk through the entire movie because of the editing. And because we record the reaction and the movie separately, it might be too difficult to pause every time I talk. But let me know which reactors you like and I’ll check them out!

You are so sweet it really contrast the main difference in men and women you looks like you can't really send when they're mean but you have to understand and I'll relate back to when we used to use swords and Spears the week and the front PTSD were usually Darwind out of the gene pool. Kind of like little boys having the a. D. D. You have to understand for thousands of years they went with their fathers and chased animals with Spears to feed. Now we expect them to sit a good chunk of the day. And just like the Romans during the Punic wars the stronger side isn't necessarily the one that wins or is moral the one that can stomach lose and atrocities and still have the will to fight. Beyonce the best thing about women is that when you have men has gone through this enable them to be able to see the good and the kinder side of life

If you liked that movie, I highly recommend "Das Boot". It's about the Crew of a German submarine. Showing the other side which is quite rarely!

this deleted scene should have been left in. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BGwbDAACdlA.html it fleshes out Wardaddy's motivations and why he wanted to stay at the end. He felt the fighting was his penance.

You butchered the hell out of Jon bernthals character, he wasn’t a bully just because of it he was trying to harden and get Norman used to the reality of their situation and he was just hardened from the ptsd he has, look up the fury deleted scene called nervous soldier and it shows a scene that changes how u look at him

women always misunderstand they are all teaching normand barely jealous but the director knew women wouldn't get it at all if they didn't portray certain elements a certain way. uncut is way different

Not a great idea to generalize all women. That would be like me saying all men are mansplaining jerks who think they know everything but can’t tell when they’re being rude. Of course that doesn’t apply to ALL men.

You are so incredibly wrong. Like I said anybody born after 1960 just wouldn't get it. We were a different type of people then, we knew the cost of freedom. The truly sad part is that there is just no explaining to you and those like you what life and the world is really about. Rainbows unicorns and wokeness is not where it is at.

It's all lies, she had Kleenex handy....because Brad Pitt. In all seriousness, you feel like a father as a Senior NCO. You gotta get these people home, male or female. You have a rage inside you if anyone tries to hurt the folks under your command. It's pretty weird in some respects. Source: British Army SNCO having been in combat ops quite a bit, and a dad. Unfortunately I did not get them all home safe :(
