Movie Reaction - Fury (2014) - First Time Watching 

Those are not lazers, they are tracers. Every 5-6th round in machineguns have a tracer round to help the gunner be more aware of where they are shooting.

Fury is notable for featuring the only operational Tiger I tank in the world. Most WWII movies that feature a “Tiger” tank is, in reality, a tank mocked up to look like a Tiger. Fury features Tiger 131, which was captured in North Africa by British forces in 1943.

the ending of this movie always gets me

Artillery is called "The Queen of the Battlefield" because most soldiers die from that than any other cause in battle.

The was a real Sherman tank named Fury. I saw it in a documentary on tanks. Fury was iñ a museum. There was also a tank commander named Sgt. Leopold "War Daddy" Poole who was one of the top American tank killing aces. His crew all had nicknames. All survived the war.

You cant have any hesitation in these situations as it can get you and your guys killed. Like the beginning when he saw them but hesitated. Also fun fact a lot of people dont notice is the course of this movie occurs in only a 24 hour timeline. So this whole movie is just 1 day on the front.

9:55 'Looks like lasers". Well, not really, but it does look like blaster fire in Star Wars (lasers would maintain a constant beam like laser pointers used in meeting rooms and as cat toys). But, it's not laser or blaster fire. Militaries add "tracer" rounds to machineguns. These rounds are just like normal bullets but have special chemicals that burn when the bullet is fired out of the gun, and as the bullet streaks toward the target, it leaves a trail of glowing light for the eye to see. About 1 bullet in 4 or 5 are tracers, the rest are normal bullets. Why? Lots of reasons, but the number 1 reason is aiming. If you shoot a machinegun at targets 50 feet away, you can see your bullets hit. Trees, houses, barns, walls, ground, water, enemy bodies, whatever. You see the hits. But when the targets are 500 feet away, especially at night or on a smoky or foggy battlefield, you have no idea where your bullets are going. With tracer rounds, you don't even have to look down the sights on the gun - just watch where the tracers go and adjust your aim until they hit what you want to hit. Easy. Another reason is so that if there is more than one machinegun, it's possible that one man sees a good target and starts firing but the other guys don't see that target so they can't help shoot it. But they definitely see where the first guy's tracers are going so they shoot there too if they want. Another advantage is when firing into 3 dimensions, such as at moving planes. Firing at targets on the ground is easy, just move the gun left or right, and you can gauge distances easily as your eye traces the distance on the ground. But firing into the air is much harder and it's also nearly impossible to gauge distance with nothing to look at around the plane but air. The tracers help you aim, help you lead, and help you hit that plane.

Great reaction! Would highly recommend Midway (2019) if you’re looking for another war movie. The 81st anniversary of the battle was this month actually. To my knowledge no one has actually reacted to this movie before, which is a shame because it’s so good and very historically accurate.

If you're a fan of war films, I have 5 war films I'd recommend. T34( its a Russian movie so dialogue is Russian) Saving private Ryan, Enemy at the gates, and 1917 which is WW1 and Glory which is the Civil war, If you're looking for more drama rather than action, The darkest hour focus' on churchill, Dunkirk focus' on dunkirk, Hacksaw ridge has a lot of fights but is good. I just realized I have more than 5 there are a lot of war films you should watch. The great escape

For the U.S. across the whole war, roughly 3% of all U.S. military personnel were killed and about 12% more were wounded badly enough to take them out of combat. These numbers are approximately the same for tank crews. Note that nobody seems to have exact statistics; each website gives slightly different numbers, so I compiled some averages to get those statistics in the hopes that the right answers were somewhere in there. Could be fairly wrong. In any case, no data that I found suggested that foot soldiers or tank crews were more or less in danger. Possibly because tank crews were safer in general but as soon as a tank appeared on a battlefield, all the enemy tried to destroy it. Being somewhat safe in a steel tank but also being the biggest and most targeted thing on the battlefield might cancel each other out.

Troop leader by Bill Bellamy is a great book . He was a tank commander 8th kings royal Irish hussars he fought through the Normandy landing, low countries and Germany. Did some amazing things against opposition tanks and 88s .

They had orders to hold that crossroads because they were the only thing standing between the Germans and the U.S. Supply train. They would blow up the tracks and all the troops on the front lines would quickly run out of food and ammo. They had to stay.

The Last Stand of the movie was based a true story off of Audie Murphy where he successfully fended off the the Germans for 1 hour

There were many stories of tank crews making a last stand against overwhelming odds throughout WWII. In the early days of the German invasion of Russia, Russian tank crews turned their tanks into static pillboxes to defend crossroads to delay the Germans for as long as they could. Their tanks were so well-armored they survived numerous hits before they were destroyed. There are many gruesome photos of Russian tanks and their crews who made these last stands. One of the most recent examples were the Israeli tank crews making a stand during the Yom Kippur War at the Golan Heights against wave after wave of Syrian tanks. I was a teenager at the time of this battle and I stayed up very late listening to the news while it was happening. I remember waiting for the grim outcome of the ongoing battle the next morning. The morning news instead said that the Israelis withstood the onslaught, but I saw the tragic site of hundreds of destroyed Syrian tanks in the ‘Valley of Tears’.

The US spent two years training a huge mechanized military force which requires a high percentage of noncombatant soldiers, from cooks to clerks to drivers to support it. It VASTLY underestimated the number of Infantry that it would need to spend in the meatgrinder of combat against the Germans. This led to critical shortages of manpower in the early months of 1945 that resulted in hastily retrained(or simply untrained) men being thrown into combat as individual replacements. Needless to say, it was ugly.

8:32 those German boys were members of the Hitlerjugend or Hitler Youth. Hitler Youth were child soldiers where boys were killing machines and girls were nurses. In 1945, when the Allies and Soviet Union entered Nazi Germany, teenage girls were forced to join the fight against the Allies. 26:33 the Tiger was the most feared tank in WW2. There was even a stronger tank called King Tiger. The standard American tank "Sherman M4" were no match for the German Tigers and standard "Panther" tanks. When the Allies encountered Nazi tank battalions, they mostly relied on heavy airstrikes capable of destroying the Tiger monsters. 46:07 the Nazi Waffen SS who spared Norman was the same age range as Norman. The young soldier must have joined the Hitler Youth in his teens to gain access to the SS (SchutzStaffel) training barracks after graduation. But the young Nazi must have witnessed the indiscriminate executions towards German civilians who did not follow orders from the SS. The young Nazi looked like he was gonna yell "PRISONER" once he spotted Norman, but saw a reflection of himself.

I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed that we have to miss your reaction to the scene where Norman gets his nickname. It's probably the most emotional segment of the movie for me. Norman is accepted into Fury's crew and named 'Machine' jubilantly and to the praises of those who are now his closest friends; they're family now and bonded by blood.

War films destroy us all. War is horrifying. A good war movie should also be horrifying. We watch them because they're good, they make us feel, they make us appreciate life. Back in the old days, say, the 50s - 70s, most war movies were nearly bloodless, full of heroes doing heroic things and winning wars while anybody who died around them usually just fell down and that's it. No blood, no gore, no horror. Just heroes. Go back in time and watch: A Bridge Too Far 1977 Midway 1976 (not the later one) The Green Berets 1968 In Harm's Way 1965 The Longest Day 1962 You'll see what I'm talking about. Those are all great movies, classics of their time. But you won't get much of a feel for the awful horrors of war. Starting around 1980 or so, movies like Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Glory, and a few others started adding blood and gore to war movies. We started seeing death and mutilation and destruction. Sometimes even the heroes died. Sometimes we couldn't even tell who the heroes were. War moved from the idea of "Watch these heroes win a war, and bring your kids because it's fun for the whole family." to "War is horrible and disgusting and tragic and very shocking." I think it's a good trend. Instead of glorifying war, we're horrifying war.

There are no atheists on the battlefield where life and death is at stake. God bless all of the outgunned tank crews will boldly charged into danger knowing full well they were hopelessly out matched!

13:53 1) Teaching the new rookie to get used to it. 2) This is within the late war (1944-45) period. Nearly the end of the war. 3) That German wore a stolen US military uniform. From a personal perspective, that’s dishonorable, disrespectful, etc. especially to the dead. Basically, like stolen valor. Understandable that he did it to survive but still is a no go. He essentially forfeited all his rights as a POW (Prisoner of War). Why? How? It is generally not allowed for soldiers to wear uniforms that belong to enemy combatants. This is because doing so can create confusion on the battlefield and potentially put their teammate soldier at risk. Additionally, it is considered a war crime under the Geneva Conventions to wear the uniform of an enemy combatant with the intent to deceive. Another possibility of him being a spy. If he wanted to be a POW, he should’ve surrendered without stealing the uniform. However, there’s no guarantee depending on the kind of enemy unit you’re up against cuz even soldiers & officers can take it personally that they’ll just make a cover story for whatever personal reasons so they’re not caught doing a war crime themselves. Stuff like these happen regardless.

My only negative criticism to this and most other war films is that the actors àre too old. I believe the average age of WW2 soldiers was 22. Vietnam was even younger.
