Fusing fine silver bezel wire:
The trick is to have both edges facing each other without any gaps and totally clean. Heat both sides equally until turning red; make sure your light is low in the room working to see the colour changing. Keep a steady hand and the melt will be super quick. Don't worry if you fail the first couple of times, it is worth mastering this technique. Only works with fine silver. Sterling silver will melt down and away from the gap.
After fusing file and sand it down smooth. When possible use thicker bezel wire, as you can always sand/file down the thickness but you can't add more thickness.
I hope this video has been helpful. Ask any questions and I will do my best to answer.
Apologies for the broken English :)

Beautiful,! I love the magic of fusing ........I know this is an older video ...what is the thickness you roll your bezel to? I am always getting warped sheets. I do anneal...my roller is not the best as I am self taught and purchase what I can..... thank you for sharing your skill.

Hi! I usually roll to about 0.8mm, important to use fine silver 🙂

Thanks for the perfect demonstration Mark. What's the thickness of the fine silver here?

Welcome! I use .8mm wire.. sometimes thinner for smaller stones and sometimes up to 1mm for larger stones. .8 is a good all rounder 😁

Wow you make it look so easy, you are so talented! But how would you add a bail to this can you fuse onto this? Without breaking the other seam?

Fusing is not like soldering, the gap cannot open like solder. Fusing is literally melting the silver in becoming one piece, so no gaps. You can solder a bail easily 🙏

What Gauge is your bezel? Thanks for the tips

I make my own bezel strips and vary in thickness depending on the project. Normally I use .8 to 1mm thickness

This is what I was looking for! After fusing the bezel wire can I put it inside precious metal clay and fire?
@FiligreeArt
@FiligreeArt 2 года назад
I have no idea about metal clay but this is pure silver.. I solder it to sterling.. my guess would be ok to use

@@FiligreeArt thank you for your reply. After fusing it's still fine silver, not sterling silver right? What do you mean that you solder it to sterling silver? Fine silver pieces can be embedded in the metal clay and fired, sterling silver can't.

@@user-yp7vf5lo8h Yes, it is still fine silver. what I meant was I solder it to a sterling silver sheet at the bottom so the stone sits on it :) In your case, it can adhere to silver metal clay so I think it will work :) good luck and let us all know how it goes!

I fail to understand why fusion will not work with sterling silver. Can you please elucidate?
@FiligreeArt
@FiligreeArt 3 года назад
You can fuse only pure metals. This is because sterling will oxidise during heating and will refuse to fuse. Metals which do not oxidize during heating like Argentium silver can also be fused.

@@FiligreeArt Thank you for the reply. Given what you say, I would guess that copper is the culprit??
@FiligreeArt

Yep.. it is the reason silver tarnishes in the first place.

flux used?

No! Don't use flux when fusing
