Awesome video! More soft jaw videos would be greatly appreciated. Also setting up fixture plates and different methods to configure them would be amazing. Really difficult to find interactional videos on fixture plates. Thanks! Great content!!

That was a fantastic instructional video. Learned so much in addition to the soft jaws including the way to select geometry by dragging the rectangles right or left. PLEASE MAKE THE PROPOSED ADDITIONAL VIDEOS. All very helpful and clearly and succinctly stated. THANK YOU !

Matching radii in the soft jaw and the part can be difficult. If the radius in the fixed jaw is smaller than the radius in the part, the location will be shifted (in Y). If the radius in the fixed jaw is larger than the radius is the part, locating in X will be at the 'apex' of the circle. This may not provide the best clamping and also a shift in Y. The jaw could wear-in over time but this would have a migrating Y shift. Maybe use the angled planar face and the face perpendicular to the soft jaw as locating/clamping features and add clearance for the radius features.

Well, depending on the application, that may be the correct answer. This video isn’t intended as deep dive into Workholding philosophies but instead how to use the tools in Fusion. I’m this case even if the radii didn’t match perfectly, it’s just a bottle opener. Thank you for your tips on this though.

Understood. Really appreciate your content. Just highlighting a minor misalignment potential. Ask me how I know. Haha. Essentially just make sure the wear comp/diameter for the tool matches the CAM. Less of an issue if using the same tool for the op1 profile and soft jaw profile.

Hey Kevin another fantastic video and so clear on the instructions. I will certainly put my hand up high and ask for the other Soft jaw options in future videos. I am constantly searching RU-vid for fixture style videos to help me learn the various ways. I would love to see one involving pocket and using mightybite grips

Awsome vid, I would love to see the setup. I run into problems because fusion thinks there's stock in the soft jaws gap.
@MechanicalAdvantage
@MechanicalAdvantage Год назад
Yeah, it will think there is stock in the gap by defining it this way. However, if you verify your space to confirm the gap is equal to or larger than your tool diameter, you can then set the tool to plunge at the midplane between the jaw faces.
@elijahcbr6009
@elijahcbr6009 Год назад
@Mechanical Advantage awsome thanks. Is there a quick way to explain how to plunge in the gap? I was just fighting this problem, where it was plunging in the jaw and I couldn't even get it to helical. Thanks man.👍

You need a point that you can specify as a predrill point. I’m sorry, I’m traveling today so I can’t look it up as easily. If you go back through my videos, I’m pretty certain I program a speed vise handle and I show how I use that point as a predrill point when machining the softjaws. If you can’t find it, let me know.

I don’t think I ufff split body. I think I used combine on this one as a cut.
